I currently have a loved one staying at Palomar Vista Healthcare Center. The facility is a bit outdated, but the level of service, care, and profesionalism is amazing, makes you overlook the fact the facility is a bit old. I have seen first hand how the staff cares for thier patients/residents and it is something that is very awarding to see, especially when it is for our elderly. I read the most current reviews and do not understand what they've experienced as it is the complete opposite of my experience with my loved one currently there. I want to applaud all of the staff at Palomar Vista Healthcare for their hard dedication, and work.

Palomar Vista Healthcare Center boasts about its five-star rating, but it's anything but a five-star rating. There is only one lady that is deemed worthy of a commendation and she was very nice to me. They would sometimes give me my roommate's meal, accidentally switching them over. There were certain guidelines that my diet required, and they did not meet those requirements very often. It looked good on the outside, but once you get inside, it's unclean.

I was transferred here after shoulder replacement surgery. I am a paraplegic. I've been wheelchair bound for 6 years. I chose the facility for its proximity to San Marcos so family and friends could visit more easily. Big mistake, I should have looked at the reviews. They are under staffed. Some staff is upbeat and helpful. Some appear to resent being asked to help you. It has taken on average one hour to get a response from staff if you are soiled or needing attention for pain or positioning. The beds are super uncomfortable. Weekends there is hardly any staff to help you get out of bed. As a paraplegic with now one arm, due to shoulder surgery I felt like a prisoner. And not being cared for in a positive way. They are woefully understaffed during the day and evening shifts, and the night staff gives off attitude if you ring for attention. "Why aren't you sleeping? Everyone else is asleep!" "What!?" Arms crossed and angry look at bring paged at night. I am not able to get up independently, so they have me in a diaper/brief. I call when it is feeling full of urine or feces. They take on average 45 minutes to respond on night shift. Then make statements like above. All I want to do right now is get my doctor to release me to home with home health care. It's terrible here. A few staff are upbeat and try but they are so overworked and understaffed that they can't help.

No one communicates with each other in this place. There is three staff members that decide when patient is going to be released. Of course, we get three different opinions and my mom is stuck in that place. Now I half to spend energy fighting to get her out instead of taking care of her. Plus the visits are more limited than the prisons. FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!! FREE MY MOM!!!

If you have a choice, DO NOT use this facility. My Mother spent two days here, following a hospital stay. The physician that released her from the hospital said that she needed another week or so of IVs and rehab so she would be strong enough to return home. When she left the hospital she sounded strong, could speak clearly and normally, and was very upbeat. After less than a day at Palomar Vista she was physically ill, was not receiving her medications, had slurred/slow speech, and was vomiting from the food. The staff did not respond to her requests to use the restroom, did not bathe her, and her "rehab" consisted of walking from her bed to a chair in the room. On the second day she was found cyanotic in her bed and was sent back to the hospital where she died a few hours later. The physician I spoke to told me that she had suffered a heart attack and a stroke since her release from the hospital two days prior. The staff at Palomar Vista was not aware that this had happened. I was unable to enter Palomar Vista due to Covid restrictions, and had to leave my mother's belongings with a paramedic who brought the suitcase (clearly marked with a large name tag) in for me. The staff at Palomar Vista ended up giving the suitcase to another woman. I don't know if my mother ever received the suitcase. When I went there the morning after her death to pick up her belongings, no one could find them. They eventually brought me an empty suitcase. Several days later some of the clothing showed up, but much of what I brought to her was never returned to me. During the short time I had to deal with the staff there, only one person was responsive to my requests. The others either ignored me, didn't return phone calls, or just...did...nothing. I will forever live with the knowledge that my allowing my Mother to be sent to Palomar Vista led to her death. Do not make the same mistake with your loved one.

If your loved one runs out of their insurance and doesnt have money they basically forget about them. My brother laid in a bed for months-no exercise. The food was not good and he said they yelled at him if he didn't eat it all. They lost his clothes and he was discharged with clothes not his. They tried to give him a jacket and shoes that were not his. A case manager told me he will be much better off where he went - to a beautiful assisted living place where they will work on his weakness caused by poor care at Palomar.

This isn't the most luxurious place the but care is excellent. The nurses and nurse assistants are friendly and treat you like family. The rehab team works miracles - they do a great job getting to know you and push you to achieve your goals. The food is good and everyone seems to enjoy their job. I would highly recommend this place..

My father-in-law stayed in Palomar Vista last January, and he will be going back there again. It was a very small unit. It wasn't very exciting. The seemed to be staffed really well, and the staff had been very good. They were excellent. They were very good, very caring, very professional, and very friendly. A lot of them were very young, both male and female. They seemed to show that they care about the patients. It was a very clean and nice facility with no smell to it. The only problem they had there for visitors was they had very little visitor's parking, and it was situated in a run-down community where people spoke little English.

Palomar Vista is really, really nice. The place is great. They were very caring and wonderful nurses, but I noticed that there weren't always very prompt with some of the patients. I would absolutely recommend this place. I really have nothing bad to say to them at all.

My mom fell and broke her hip. She has no money, but everything has worked out fine with Palomar Vista Healthcare Center. Although on first glance I would not put my mother there. That wouldn't be a place I would choose. But the facility is well-staffed and they're awesome. I show up at all different times and my mother is well taken care of. Of course there are some people who are better than others, but there are some great people there. I've eaten a little bit of the food with my mother and I think it is okay. It's a balanced meal. They're great for what I would call a state facility.

My grandmother was staying at Palomar Vista Healthcare Center for about a year and I went to visit her several times. The thing I appreciated the most about this facility was the fact that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was having a hard time dealing with the fact that my grandmother was having a hard time but the staff were very helpful in explaining to me her condition and how she was living with dementia. The area is nice and it's right next to the hospital so you know that if anything is wrong your loved one can be transported quickly. The facility is clean and even has a nice garden in the center area. I kind of wish that maybe my grandmother would have been able to get outside more while she was there since she wasn't exactly mobile at the time. It seems like she was mostly left in her room there all day and it would have been nice if she could have been taken outside in a wheelchair, even if just for a little bit. Overall it's a pretty nice facility with friendly staff that are helpful and caring.
