My husband moved into Veterans Home of California and that place is wonderful. Its like a five-star facility. Its amazing. I cannot say enough good things about this place, and the staff is wonderful. They smile, they really make an effort, they have volunteers that come in, and he is surrounded by other veterans. They try to keep people busy, and theres always something everyday. The food is wonderful, its a balanced meal, and he get everything he needs. He eats everything.

I have been a resident here at the Chula Vista Veterans home for 10 years. I have had continuous problems getting to my medical appointments. Today I was scheduled for my regular bi-yearly eye appointment. Due to the lack of of the transportation Department, my name was not on the list. This has happen to me more than 6 times this year, even after several several complaints to the Administrator who doesn't acknowledge there's a problem. I do not know who to complain to anymore. Please do your research before coming here. There are more than one deficienies at this facility.

My wife and I are moving to Veterans Home of California in Chula Vista. We saw a nice unit there, and it's very well kept. There's transportation available, and there's a hospital right across the street, so it's convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful during our visit. They've got an exercise room, and they've got a library there. There are games they play there too. I don't know all of them, but it's pretty well organized. We have not tried it yet, but the food definitely looks good. They have a better, healthier menu. It's pretty close to a little shopping center, a drug store, and eating places too. It's just a block away from those, so it's very convenient.

As far as I can tell, my father is getting excellent care at Veteran's Home of California. He has been there a little over two weeks and he is doing well. I notice that they have Filipino staff and they really do take good care of the residents there. Every three months they have care meetings where somebody from the family can participate and talk to the staff that takes care of that resident. It's a very large facility and they take care of everybody, from people who are still independent to people who need skilled nursing. Other than their administrative and plumbing issues, they are great.

My parents are on a waiting list with the Veteran's Home which they can afford. None of the other facilities in the area were within their price range. They're both retired on social security income. As for fees with Veteran's Home, they just take out from their salary no more than half. One of them has to be a Veteran. They do take husband and wife but there is a very long waiting list. It's a very nice facility with lots of rooms and activities. Residents are very well cared for. They prefer more active and reasonably independent but there is assistance for those who need it.
