It has health insurance options counselors that provide free, unbiased consultations to answer seniors’ questions regarding Medicare benefits, available Medicare Advantage and Medigap plans, Medicaid and long-term care insurance, which can help seniors find options for paying for assisted living services. The agency also provides congregate meals throughout the region, transportation for medical appointments and information and referral services.  
Veterans Affairs(803) 283-2469The county’s Veterans Affairs Department operates an office in Lancaster, where veterans and their spouses or survivors can access assistance with identifying and applying for local, state and federal benefits. Its staff can screen veterans for eligibility for pension programs, disability compensation and the Aid and Attendance benefit, which may help cover assisted living expenses. The office can also screen veterans for eligibility for memorial benefits and VA health insurance.
