Payments are added to the VA pension and are unique to each applicant. The maximum monthly payments are $1,881 for an individual vet, $1,209 for a surviving spouse and $2,230 for a couple. There’s no requirement to pay the benefits back. Vets unsure if they qualify can check out the free tool on the VeteranAid.org website.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program(410) 222-4464The purpose of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman is to ensure seniors in residential care facilities are receiving the standard of care they have the right to expect. Ombudsmen regularly make unannounced visits to assisted living communities to speak to the residents, remind them of their rights and investigate complaints made by seniors, their families and third parties. The ombudsman can also provide families with information on file about assisted living facilities in Maryland.
State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)(410) 222-4257Medicare beneficiaries and seniors can get help from the SHIP program free of charge. The program’s counselors can advise seniors on health care plans offering the widest coverage for the lowest costs and inform them if their current plans have shortfalls. The counselors are unbiased. They won’t try to guide seniors towards plans, including private health care insurance. They can also help seniors prepare appeals.
Senior Activity Centers(410) 222-1818The Annapolis Senior Activity Center is the primary center in the city. However, there are another seven in various locations. Although each center is slightly different, facilities common to all include a nutrition program, where seniors can get a freshly cooked hot meal at lunchtime on weekdays. Centers also promote healthy living through their fitness classes, which include chair yoga and tai chi. There are also educational classes, such as acrylic painting and an introduction to computers.
