I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I guess the current owner bought this place only a few years ago which is good because I saw bad ratings online from 3 years ago or older that were because of a different owner. The current owner doesn’t work there or live there but he has a lot of experience. I didn’t know but I guess you can ask residents to participate in a lot of stuff around the house which can keep them active. I didn’t know that residents could have a say in the meals. Other group homes just tell us they post a menu and they don’t give their residents any input at all. I think this is important because my mom liked that she was able to request her favorites I’m mean after all, food is a big deal for seniors. Didn’t know that pricing in group homes is different. We look at other carehomes a few blocks away and they were quoting us a price for the room plus care but this place just gave us a flat fee and fixed the price. We didn’t know that this was possible.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Very affordable and nice size rooms especially for being in Scottsdale. Staff does their best to accommodate and keep residents happy. I really like that they ask the residents to participate in the menu/meal planning. Very calm and peaceful house. The owner purchased this place about a year or so ago but he is an experienced social worker who really cares about the residents.

I visited this facility

My father was in hospice care at this facility. He was care for very well. His needs were met. The staff was attentive and considerate. I found them to be compassionate and kind during the process. I appreciated what they provided for my family.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father was a resident for 1 week before he called me to tell me he was going to Mayo hospital for pain. Not the group home calling me, my dad! I had to call Karen to find out what was going on. She had to call and find out herself. While my dad was back in the hospital they decide to rent his room out, no notice! All about the money!! Reading the other reviews they were spot on. I had a contract for a private room but within a few days they were trying to put another resident in his room. I paid a deposit, a refundable deposit as stated in the contract and now they decide it is nonrefundable. I live out of state and i think they feel I am far enough away to not care. Sad that they take advantage of residents and their families.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I lived here and it was a terrible experience. There are 3 single bedrooms off of one hall, a double occupancy and single occupancy off the main room, and 3 bedrooms down a 2nd hall. They are full with 8 residents and usually only have 1 caretaker on duty at a time. Your needs are not met right away, as the caretakers are very busy. The food gave me severe gastrointestinal problems. They were given detailed lists of foods I can and cannot have, but they still cooked whatever they wanted and gave me soup or toast if I couldn't eat it. I often went to bed hungry, and woke up to nothing but pancakes in the morning. When you are starving, you will eat anything even if you will end up in the ER for it. They just didn't care. I was told they had an activity schedule, but the only thing that ever happened was once a month a man would come sing for an hour. I watched 3-5 movies a day in the living room. They put on one after another every day. If I wanted to watch sports or anything else I had to watch it in my room. The pills I was given every night varied by caretaker. I never could figure out why, as they wouldn't give me a straight answer. One caretaker rubbed body wash on me instead of lotion for 3 days straight and I ended up with burns on my skin before anyone figured it out. She then lied about it to my family so she wouldn't get in trouble. When I had back pain, they called 911. My daughter specifically told them not to call 911 because I was having a hard time paying my medical bills, but they yelled at her and did it anyway. I went and was discharged with nothing abnormal. It would have been a lot cheaper to rub some alcohol on my back. They do not call in refills for medication or take you to appointments, so you have to have outside care for anything other than food, room and board. I would never go back or recommend this he to anyone.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Golden Care is a facility for most seniors with dementia and stroke survivors like myself. It has a live-in staff that helps the residents. The community was okay. There was some other staff that I didn’t particularly get along with, but overall it was a decent experience. I didn’t particularly care for how they treated some of the other residents -- they weren’t abusive, but they just weren’t as accommodating as I felt they should be given how much we all pay. Before I moved in, my mother inquired if she could come and visit and stay and they said yes. Then when she came out to stay, it was a different story and they could not accomodate her. My mother felt that it was not as accommodating as she expected. It’s a single house and it’s got about four or five rooms. No activities per se, but every room has a television. I think they had some people from a hospice come in every once in a while for therapy or they would come and play music. There weren’t really a lot of activities to keep the residents involved. There were mealtimes where everybody was together -- other than that, everyone pretty much stayed in their rooms. The staff helped prepare meals, clean the units, do laundry, and change bedsheets. The place was clean enough. The food that they prepare is not diabetic-friendly. They say that it is, but it’s not and it was okay. For people with special needs it was not an ideal diet. Parking can also get crowded. When we have special needs -- whether it’s help with bathing or a special diet -- they’re willing to do whatever needs to be done for the residents and I think they’re probably one of the most reasonable places as far as cost.
