One star is being overly generous. The place is depressing and the atmosphere and feeling of the place makes u want to leave when u walk in. My wife and I are friends of one of the residents who is supposed to be in for rehab. It seems that as a whole staff is apathetic, although there are some staff that do seem to care.

Some of the residents seem to be over medicated as they are passed out in the halls in their wheel chairs. I have also seen many residents left in the hall for hours on time begging to be put in their beds. They are way under staff for State Regulation Guide Lines.. Especially on night and week-end shifts. I don't believe they do criminal back ground checks on employees as well. Some of the Office help has bad negative attitudes and gives you the run around. I have caught two personally in lies. I believe Corporate Office, Tarcog and The State of Alabama Health Center need to do some serious investigation on this facility. There are numerous complaints pending to insure proper patient care and family members are properly treated with respect.

Huntsville Health & Rehab has one side of the building for long term skilled nursing. The other side is for rehab, and it is intended for short term although they probably have a number of people who are on that side and will be there for a longer term than you might expect. The rooms are very small. They are all semi-private because that part of the building is not intended for long term. They save the private rooms for long term care which I can certainly understand. They are small though, and that would be my number one complaint. It is clean, and I think they did very well with the therapy having physical, occupational and speech therapy six days a week. It is a small facility with only 50 rooms. It is not as overwhelming as some of the places where you are in a much larger facility. They have a complete list of things for them to do beyond just the therapy. They have people coming in doing stuff, and they have activities in the day room. We narrowed it down to about five or six that we would have been OK with. We obviously had some preferences. This is in the top three for us, and we would recommend it.

Don't leave a loved one here under any circumstances. The administrator would say that they were not going to follow doctor's orders and if we didn't like it, we could "bring legal action". However, they still wouldn't provide two person assistance for transfers and other orders.

My experience at Huntsville Health & Rehab was good. The CNA's were nice (with a few exceptions), the nurses were knowledgeable and helpful, the head nurse checked on my mom each morning and was very helpful when my mother became ill. The food was great, the surroundings were nice with soothing court yards. I would recommend this facility to anyone.

THIS IS THE WORST NURSING HOME IN HUNTSVILLE. THE ADMINISTRATOR, DON, STAFF NURSES, THERAPST DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. THE DON DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DO CPR, EVERYONE IS INEXPERIENCED. THE LPN'S ARE FRESH OUT OF SCHOOL. THE HOUSE SUPERVISOR DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRAW BLOOD. THEY GET YOU IN THERE AND YOU GOTTA BRING YOUR OWN OUTSIDE PHYSICIAN IN TO TELL THEM WHAT TO DO! MY MOTHER WAS THERE FOR A WEEK AND WE TOOK HER TO A REAL SKILLED FACILITY. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST NURSING HOME IN HUNTSVILLE, AL. PLEASE BE AWARE AND TAKE YOUR LOVED-ONE SOMEWHERE ELSE
