As it turns out, I had stayed in the hospital for one night. When I came home, I got a ride home. The first thing the caregiver asked when I got out of the car was which one of us had the surgery. I didn't need much help. She was just available in case something would have happened to me. I wasn't in pain at all so in one way, it didn't impact my life at all since she didn't have anything to do. We talked a little bit and watched a little TV. I called quite a bit in advance and talked to someone, but I don't know if she's an owner or manager. It took a little while to get going on the information. I think that was because I contacted them kind of early. Other than that, everything went fine. She got a hold of me right away, and she found a person for me. I don't know if that's just the normal time frame for things, but she got someone, so that was good.

The caregiver taught me how to do certain things better because I did most of the care. She taught me things, she sat in on meetings with nurses and some other professionals, and she participated in conversations. I really think she made a difference. It took about a month for the client to get used to her. We had a lot of people coming in, and she didn't like that. Once the client got used to her, she was buddies with her, and it worked out really good. I liked that the person they gave me had a lot of experience overall; as well as with end of life care and hospice care. She was so confident, so compassionate, and so helpful. I couldn't say enough good things about her. As far as the quality of care, it was absolutely excellent.

They have made my life easier by preparing my meals and getting all the things I need in the morning for me. The get my containers full of water and charge my devices. On the weekends, I get a bath, and they help me change my clothes. I would recommend them because I've got two great caregivers and they meet my needs and are pleasant people, they are good cooks.

I don't have much of a daily life I spend it at home. She is honest. I have had others who stole things and that is really bad. I trust her to be careful with my possessions. I like the person that I am working with. She talks to me and I talk to her. It is a good working relationship.

The care has been really good. Carl in particular is quite a character. He can shower Jon and help with that. Based on the help that I've gotten and the people that have come it's a ten. Shelly answered the phone and she attacked me verbally for calling her that early. So why did she answer the phone if she didn't want to talk to me. That was really poorly handled. She redeemed herself though when she called back in the afternoon and she listened to my request.

They mostly did the laundry sometimes. The first one did sheets on a bed that no one sleeps on. She never did do my laundry that I told her to do. There were ads for BrightStar Care all through a movie marathon I was watching and all the ads were lies. The caregivers aren't trained. I had a list of things that needed to be done and some were more important than others. Cleaning was one of them. I had one gal come in who said she was a personal caregiver and would not clean. I was paying $34 a hour for her to be sitting and playing on her phone waiting for the wash to be done.

My experience with BrightStar Care has been satisfactory. It's understandable that they're running a little short on staff, so I don't get a consistent one all the time. The caregiver they sent out the first time worked very well. But she's had a couple of occasions where she wasn't able to keep the appointment dates, so they sent out another one. There were 2 different ones other than the main one. But neither of them is what I would characterize as being efficient. They felt uncomfortable doing some of the things that I would have done. And I got notified a couple of days ago that one of them has tested positive on the virus so we're sitting in a waiting period now. Their backup people have not been top-of-the-line to do everything that I would have liked done. I have had about 4 different caregivers from this agency since the beginning of March. Two of them are okay, but the other 2 left a lot to be desired. My original caregiver gave assistance with the laundry, did some cooking and shopping, drove me to my doctor's appointments and helped me shower. There was a whole range of things that she did. She was able to help me with most things. But the other 3 caregivers would rather resort to sponge baths rather than helping me with the shower.

They need to work harder on their scheduling and have backup for if there is an emergency so the client isn't left having to worry about somebody not showing up. They need to screen their CNAs better. We've had two who didn't show up. They need to pay their CNAs more so they can get better quality.

At times my loved one drove me crazy. I always had to get to her first, and I was always last. She didn't look at me with love anymore and got so bitter at times. One time she grabbed my arm and scratched me all down my arms. When the caregivers come, they help out and take care of her for me. They helped just by being there in the morning and evening when she has medication requirements. She would get disoriented, and she would have a hard time finding her way back to her room. They were there to help her back, so she would be embarrassed to ask another resident to help her find her room. We used her for three hours a day, but there were some occasions where I was out of town, and special needs occurred during the day. They were very accommodating and sent someone over. They took care of it. There were no scheduling problems, and someone was always available.

It has been very helpful, especially having the care during the night and a few hours in the morning. It is extremely helpful, and we couldn't do it without them.
