Our Mother was service by the home health care service. Later added to Palliative care and than Hospice. We were pleased with the treatment she received every time. From her primary care physician to all the nurses. Believe me she called them often. From our perspective, as her children, we were involved and kept abreast of every decision. When Hospice was call they were on top of everything.

This company made a hard time harder. It was difficult to schedule initial visits for hospice care, and by the time we got settled into the program we felt the nurses were nice but totally hands off. We never even met or spoke to the doctor. Our mom passed and it was up to us alone with no medical professionals there to see her through it, but hey, it happens. The absolute worst part of this experience was having to play phone tag for a week to get her death certificate signed by the doctor with capital caring. It was a digital document so I have no idea why it took until EOD Friday when my mom passed early morning Tuesday. At one point I called, said I was looking for an update on the signature for her death certificate - they looked up her account, and said “Oh yeah I see the admission order, I’ll transfer you to an admission nurse” after my mother had literally already died. Admission nurse?! I was very clear about the reason I was calling but they were not paying attention. No tact. They also touted they offer bereavement counseling but unsurprisingly I haven’t heard from them.

Capital Caring previously provided hospice and palliative care for my father. They stopped servicing the area we live in and didn’t bother to tell us. I had to track them down to confirm that we have no support. Sad that any company would abandon its clients without notice. Such injustice for the medically incapacitated elderly.

My mother's 24/7 aids let me know that Capital Caring let the pill box get empty after the first week. I chalked it up to start-up problems. Then the box was filled up incorrectly missing 4 pills one day and putting an extra pill in another day. CC said maybe the aids (from another company) did something to the pill boxes. Now CC has admitted that when a nurse went on vacation 2 weeks ago no one was assigned to back-fill; my mom was not seen at all for 2 weeks. The CC social worker who confirmed that my mom was overlooked says she understands why I am replacing them. Do Not Hire Capital Caring.

At 75, I have had plenty of experience with friends and family needing Hospice care here in Texas. Besides providing the expected supervision of a doctor with the needed prescriptions for palliative care, the Hospice care we have previously used (none associated with Capital Caring) provided a Social Worker and home health aides to assist the family with the patient's bathing needs. We currently have a parent under Capital Caring hospice care in Virginia. They have not offered a Social Worker for the family's needs, and they offer no home health aides to assist in bathing the patient. Unacceptable in my opinion. I never thought to question if a Hospice offers those services or not, but I'll take the responsibility in not recommending the family insure they choose a Hospice that offers those services. Unfortunately, it is too late to make a switch, and we are highly dissatisfied with Capital Caring.

Staff was kind and empathetic. Our biggest issue is how slow everything was. By the time we got supplies my mother was already passed because it took a week. Responses were very slow. We couldn’t even get prescriptions refilled and ran out before her death because their systems are inefficient. My mother was not at peace. The oxygen hose nose piece they provided gave her nose bleeds and there was no other alternative. I’m extremely disappointed my mother wasn’t given what she needed.

Capital Caring Hospice is a wonderful organization. The nurse assigned to my husband was so competent and helpful. The bathing assistant was so careful and helpful. A hospice doctor came out to our house and really made us feel like we were well cared for. Could not have asked for a better medical and emotional support team.

The decision to begin hospice, for my father, was one of the most difficult decisions in our lives. After solemn contemplation, my mother and I engaged Capital Caring to care for my father in his final days. Engaging Capital Health was one of the best decisions we ever made. The team we had are exemplary ambassadors for Capital Caring. My father's nurse, is an extraordinary person, who is caring, empathetic, and a consummate and experienced professional. Her personalized service is like a employing a concierge medical practice. She treated our family and my father with respect, dignity, and love. She goes above and beyond to deliver superior service and treats you like you are a part of her own family. In time of need and grief, there is nothing more valuable and essential than a caring and kindhearted soul to comfort you. She is all this and more. Our intake nurse, is congenial, patient, and compassionate. He spent almost two hours with us walking us through the intricacies of hospice and put our minds at ease about the whole process. His professionalism and caring demeanor were comforting during this difficult time. Our social worker, is the epitome of professionalism and an exemplary individual. He was comforting and availed us of multiple resources to help us through the hospice journey. His personal touch and offer to lean on him during this difficult time were greatly appreciated. Finally, my dad’s home health aide, is kind, tender, and gentle. Her bright smile, weekly visits, and friendly demeanor brightened our gloomy days. My father left this world yesterday. When he passed, he was with us at home and died with dignity. This was made possible by our care team; they are a cohesive team and provided excellent care for my father and supported our family through a very challenging time in our lives. You want this team by your side when you make the tough decision of engaging hospice. They are an invaluable asset, not only to their employer, but to all families that need to make this difficult and painful decision. This team’s professionalism is bar none. Above all, they are caring and loving individuals, which in time of need, is invaluable and indispensable.

My mother is in a nursing home and Capital Caring hospice is working with her she is dying one of the Capital Caring staff visited with her yesterday and told her their goal is to get her out of hospice and running around she was very upset and confused I thought they understood that they were to help her deal with her death She deserves compassion and assistance, not misrepresentations she’s just gotten into the program, so I pray they will understand what’s needed

Thanks to all for the outstanding care you provided my mother recently. A sincere thanks to Matthew B. for managing her care and meticulously addressing all her needs, to Michelle, Elizabeth, Barry, Rick, Kim, Ada, Amina, Paula, Jeanne, Josanna, a heartfelt thanks for providing such compassionate and attentive care, to Julia (chaplin) and Sherry (social work), and countless volunteers thanks for your support and efforts to provide comfort. If I left off someone's name, it is not because your efforts went unnoticed. I knew that my mom was in the best hands and place possible. She passed away without pain and anxiety and with dignity. How fortunate she was to be at Halquist.

Although the overall hospice care is important and valuable once a death occurs the staff become rude and uncooperative. We worked with a fantastic funeral home who got nothing but grief and rude responses regarding getting the death certificate signed. They act as though the funeral home is the enemy instead of a gentle transition of care. Shame on them.

Blessed with many angels!! I would like a moment to share my story with you. When I first became a Federal employee in 1969, through the CFC, I supported the Hospice of Northern Virginia, as it was called at the time. I continued to support the Hospice although I had not had the need to call upon them. I have been through the various name changes. In 2005, my father was diagnosed with liver cancer on 06/06/2005 and advised to go home to be with family. This was the first time I called hospice, now called Capital Hospice. Immediately we had a nurse and medications and on 06/11/2005, my father died and again I called Capital Hospice. My mother, brother and I were so blessed by the nurses. On 10/09/2013, my mother went to Alexandria Hospital for extreme stomach pain…after many tests, we found that she had Diverticulitis with an abscessed fistula. After 3 weeks, the hospital said mom would have to go somewhere for special care…I knew what they meant. My friend & Alexandria Hospital chaplain, Sandy Paige, comforted me & I told her that I will not move mom anywhere EXCEPT to Capital Caring Halquist. God really works miracles…at the nurses station was an Intake Specialist from Capital Caring. My mother was moved that evening (10/29/2013) and received wonderful loving care until 11/07/2013. I cannot thank Capital Caring enough for all the care, love and services. Everyone at Halquist was professional and provided the assistance to my mother with dignity. I have attended the 8-week program for parental loss and the Tribute Lights ceremony of rememberance at the Halquist Center and Dulan Methodist Church. I feel blessed to have the many people I have met at Capital Caring who will be angels to me forever. I pray that Capital Caring will be able to continue the offices throughout the metropolitan area and pray that Halquist Center will remain. My loving thanks to all of you. My wife had cancer and it had gotten worse and we used Capital Hospice for a couple of weeks. They provided continuous caring for the last week of Quinn's life and they had a nursery 24/7. They had group support for people in my situation. They were very professional and I'm very happy with them. My only concern would be that they did have a different nurse come every night. So a little bit of consistency would have been better for us.

My mother ended up using Capital Caring as a recommendation from the Fair Oaks Hospital close by. Regretfully, our experience with Capital Caring was quite poor. My mother in their care ended up having a horrible time and the family had to lodge a complaint resulting in a more efficient care leader being assigned during the last couple of days of her life. i hope Capital Caring made some changes as a result of my mother's experience but I cannot give a positive recommendation based on our first hand experience with Capital Caring two years ago.

We found much of the staff to be extremely unprofessional - care givers who made wildly inappropriate and offensive comments (related to my loved one and I being of different races), staff who consistently showed up late and once didn't show at all until we called (apparently our time had no value to them), and medical advice that was contrary to our wish of providing the utmost care to our loved one. At one point we ran a medication change the hospice doctor recommended past our hospital physicians who told us in no uncertain terms to NOT follow the hospice doctor's advice as there would be immediate health consequences to our loved one. After that, we ran all medications and care questions through our personal physicians only. In terms of the timeliness with which problems with medication refills and equipment orders/issues were dealt with we'd rate them a D. There was very much an attitude of "we can call tomorrow to get that...". The last time they gave us response it had to do with equipment that helped us monitor medication dosages - NOT something that can wait till tomorrow! We did have one care provider that was exceptional but I'm afraid that one person was not always our primary care contact. In addition, Capital Caring did provide medical equipment and checked our loved one's vitals 2-3 times a week (when we left the hospital we were told they'd come 5 days a week but that's another story). We went with Capital Caring because they were the only option the hospital gave us per our insurance. We hope that other families, given a choice, will have the opportunity to consider a wider range of options.

My Mother spent 12 restful and peaceful days at this Center. The entire staff could not have been more caring or helpful.

I brought my parents home from the hospital because I did not like the care at the hospital. They were not dealing with them appropriately. My parents wanted to pass away at home. So, we brought them home. They were awesome. I love the team. The team was great specially the ones from the Northern Virginia area. They were very positive and supportive. I did not have any problems with them. They were very good. They were always there when I needed them even when I called them in the middle of the night. When I had issues like when my parents were close to death, they were right there for me. They answered my questions and helped me deal with the situation that I had.

I wish we had read this review before signing up with Capitol Hospice. My mother was released from the hospital one week ago. During that time Capitol Hospice messed up the discharge. They were not at the hospital to do intake the day discharge was scheduled. They were unclear about the medication they would need when she went home. Prescriptions (even for pain) were not handled properly. It is hard to get nurses. The hospice doctor is not able to handle the complications of the case. And we find our selves back in the hospital one week later. The suspicion (from Mother's original physician) is that the medicine hospice had her switch providers for is the reason for the unanticipated rapid deterioration. This is for the Fairfax Virginia provider. And yes, it is hard to get the nurses to call back. The services are less than we were told. Unfortunately my Dad who is 80 is making all the decisions. I am just hoping, if Mom survives this hospitalization, I can get him to change companies.

We have been using Capitol Hospice for several months at my father's home. They are incredible! They have staff available 24/7 for consultations, caregiver help, assistance in the home whenever & whatever we need from them. They not only help my father who is the patient, but my mother, his care giver too. Staff is knowledgeable, gentle, & accommodating with my parents. But even more importantly they listen to the patient. I can't say enough about them. They are a wonderful resource.
