They needed to hire people that would listen to me. We needed a caregiver who would listen to us rather than do whatever they thought was right. I don't like the owner. He wouldn't listen to me.

It was good. I think that the caregivers, there was some differentiating, some were good, some not so good. It really depended on the individual. I don't live in town, but they were good in insuring that if somebody didn't show up on time, the other person couldn't leave. I never felt like she was unsafe. One thing I noticed, was I had typed up a detailed set of instructions, and found that the caregivers weren't necessarily reading that. They could improve on the continuity of caregivers. It would have been optimal to have the same caregivers coming consistently, instead of new people being introduced. Having new people come means they have to get up to speed on her situation and her needs and anything. It would be better to have the same couple of caregivers coming consistently. They were working towards that, but that was an issue we noted. I found that they weren't great at initiating what to cook for her, and she did lose weight when she was with them. She wasn't in the position to tell them what to cook for her, and they didn't seem to have initiative for that issue. A third issue, is that they didn't seem equipped to purchase her food for her. They tried to find a solution for that. I was kind of surprised that they weren't equipped to do that.

It was very confusing, but that could be due to our age or emotional status. Scheduling was hard and getting the same caregiver was hard. This put a burden on us, because it was an emergency situation. Understanding the whole process was hard. But we understand how the situation was hard.

Some of the girls, like Kathrine, were very helpful at night. The help was variable. Depending on the shift, sometimes they spent too much time on their phones. If I did not ask for something specific they would not ask what they could do. I did get their phone numbers and started to text them when I did need them.

My mom is not very ill where she can't help herself, but they keep her company and help with light housekeeping. My mother is comfortable with her caregiver in the home. There are too many changes in people with COVID-19 going on. I had to take the shift myself to take care of my mom. Some of the people they hire are not dependable.

They made it very easy to where I could get someone when I needed them. I was in Los Angeles which made it difficult to help my parents. They were willing to go pick up groceries for my parents. They were able to get us care quickly. My mom has Alzheimer's and it was confusing for her to have different caregivers coming into her home. I understand it was probably hard to get a consistent caregiver during the virus, but I wish we could have had only one caregiver.

They had one person there who bonded very well with my wife and was a good thing for her. The institution that they were at drove her out. The problem was just the fit with the outside help and the caregivers in the place she is in. There has to be compatibility and understanding with the two places.

I've had a lot of problems with them, but they're trying their best to work them out. They need to get me two people who cover each other and are there consistently. When the prime caregiver isn't able to come, they should send one person who covers for them and knows what needs to be done instead of sending random caregivers. They need to have more communication because it took almost three hours before they notified me that they didn't have a caregiver coming while I was already at work instead of letting me know what was going on while they were trying to cover the shift. They also need to get more reliable people.

We got BrightStar Care Birmingham for my parents and the care was very poor. They did not do anything that they said they would do. They were supposed to help with bathing, medications, and light housekeeping. There were multiple caregivers, but only about ten percent were good, and the other ninety percent were very poor, inexperienced, first-time people. There was no initiative shown. We left them a list of things to do, and they still could not accomplish their tasks. There were a number of times where they did not show, or were late. If I wasn't here to monitor my parents, they would have been left by themselves. I would definitely not recommend them.

I was a caregiver for ten years, and I could never even think of doing what they did to me. They should hire caregivers with cars so they don't have to pay for Uber rides. They need to get people who really want to do the job, be on time, and who list themselves as allergic to cats so they don't walk in and then walk right back out without giving me a shower and doing my laundry.
