To whom it may concern, Medicana Nursing & Rehab Center is second to none. I would like to identify the physical and occupational therapy team (John and Rick) at the facility as the BEST I've ever had. The rehab far exceeded my expectations they got me from bedridden to actually walking with a walker again in far under 1 month. The social worker Kia, unit nurse manager Monique, CNA Irene, and rest of administration always responded to anything I needed during my stay to make me as comfortable as possible. The food was 5 stars, Joe the food & nutrition manager came to my room and made sure I got the menu selections I wanted everyday. I owned 2 restaurants, so I know good food. If I ever have the need for rehab services again Medicana would be the only place I'd want to go.

A very good friend of mine was a resident for over a year. She was physically healthy in her 80's. She had Alzheimers and the personality changes were stubbornness otherwise she remained sweet and agreeable. Her decline was fast and very sad. We (I and her husband who had dementia) had a number of concerns all of which management were quick to assure us would be looked at and improved but they never were! Issues were her constant falling out of chairs or her bed, neglect of her needs and of her belongings, lack of care fulness which caused a fall, and general unhygienic conditions. In the common room they only had dining chairs (no big comfortable lean back chairs) and she continually fell out of them . They always, as far as I know called us to report said accidents, but the only remedy they had was to try to get her to her room to lay down if they happened to see her sleeping in said chair. She also fell out of bed a number of times . The mattress of the bed was old and lumpy. Her personal hygiene was not looked after. We often arrived and her hair was uncombed. Her nails were never cut unless I did this myself which I often did. Dirty diapers were found and reported in the hallway at least twice. She developed many sores which were only looked after somewhat, after we complained. Medication was not prescribed nor did she see a Doctor for these sores. Her personal belongings often disappeared and were never found despite being labeled. Her clothing was marked with huge black magic markers rather than name tags and took over a month to get marked. Her closet was always in disaray only after a few days of my organizing it, with clothing missing, general items used for everyone or items not being used like padding stuffed in her closet. Her neighbour who had no relatives and was incapacitated had her clothing in bags pushed into her own closet. Staff rarely spoke to my friend. She stopped eating for which they did nothing, and though I often asked them to cut her meat I often arrived when she was eating, to find this not done. It was easier to deliver her meals to her bedside than incorporate her in the dining room so it was up to us to take her there when we could. Rarely would they take her for the planned events and only occasionally when we requested a specific event. I observed other, severely handicapped and Alzheimer patients neglected and staff not trained in how to effectively help them. The very basics were done for them but some staff had time to sit by an outside door on their phones. Staff did not seem sufficiently trained, financially or otherwise motivated to care about the patients. If I had had the authority she would not have remained there. I actively attempted to have her power of attorney agree to move her, but there were always false promises they would improve care. As she was dying, before we could get there, they promised to hold her hand but they didn't do much for her when she was alive.

The staff from Admistrative to nurses are fantastic. Everyone is extremely accommodating and friendly. My father has been in 5 rehabs in the area and this has been the best of them all. I’ve never witnessed a faster response time when the call button is used. A nurse or assistant is in the room within minutes!

My sister is currently in this establishment because she just underwent SERIOUS surgery to get a titanium bar in her back. She is in a back brace and they haven't given her anything for the pain for 10 hours now. And she is obviously hurting. They just accused her of "jonesing" for pills because she is in excruciating pain as one would be after a MAJOR surgery THIS IS COMPLETELY FRICKING UNNACEPTABLE. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS.

My mom was more or less forced into this facility by Signature Healthcare rehab facility once Signature decided she would not get any better. Medicana smells to high heaven of urine no matter what time of day you are there. The standard answer to every issue you point out to them is "We didn't know". A resident fell on the floor outside of my mom's room the other day because there was absolutely no caregiver, no nurse, no one on the hall. The first day I went to visit my mom, they had an ear PLUG in her left ear and did not have her hearing aid in her right ear at all. They will not get my mom out of bed to use the potty-they make her urinate and defecate in her depends. I have no idea how long she is left to lay in her own waste. They will not get her out of bed at all and during the times I've been to visit her, they don't even come in and change her . position. She shares a room with three other women. Some of the staff members are very kind but some of them are just downright rude! I've never seen any activities for the residents except for a bingo game one time in the dining hall. Most of them are just sitting in the hallways in their wheelchairs. Do not bring your loved ones to this facility!

My mother is a resident there. After myself and my 3 brothers havent seen her in years, medicana is the best. The staff are pleasant always..all questions are answered. This nursing home is so clean! The other day they were dusting crown molding on the door frames! My mom likes the foid and everyone speaks to her..always. They are very friendly with a smile! My mom is bkibd and has been there since 2013. Charlene

Medicana, in my opinion, excels in providing quality care by a team of well qualified and compassionate staff. My wife spent 5 weeks as a resident at Medicana following a near fatal illness and confinement at a local hospital. She was not expected to live upon her arrival at the Emergency Room. Because of the excellent care she received at Medicana, she fully recovered from this grave illness and has continued to do well to the present.. I would give Medicana an unqualified recommendation.

I am a current resident at Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center. I find the nursing staff to be caring and courteous. The staff from the therapy department housekeeping, and maintenance are also full of people that try to help when ever they can. Activities wise we go on trips, play games, have parties and have live entertainment. Overall, I really enjoy living here.

We had a horrible experience at Medicana Nursing & Rehab Center. Their nurses were extremely unfriendly. It was the worse experience.

My mother has been a patient at Medicana. What I wish I knew and want to inform others of: the overall star ratings awarded can be changed by filing grievances on the Agency fo Healthcare, http://ahca.myflorida.com/ Our experience: Some of the nurses are very good and attentive, but overall, even though my mother was bedridden, the nurses didn't see her. The aids do. I can't tell you how many times things were amiss and our answer from the staff was "we didn't know". There is no one to give you answers. Everyone refers you to someone else. We've been out right lied to on more than one occasion. The therapists are great. I believe they do a good job and genuinely care about their patients. However, as in any facility, it comes down to floor care. If your parent is bedridden or has any special needs, LOOK ELSEWHERE.

My grandmother was at this facility for rehab after her hospital stay. She had Medicare and so we had a lot of options when it came to selecting a place. We went with Medicana because another friends Father had been there and recommended it. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, the nurses were all very helpful and the therapists did a great job of getting my grandmother back to being her old self again! My whole family is so grateful for all that Medicana did for her and we would HIGHLY recommend it if you need therapy or nursing help.

Nurses and therapists were good. Never saw the doctor or heard from him/her. The social worker lied to family members and resident on several occasions and caused a lot of turmoil for everyone. Would have expected better from her. That left us all with a very negative view of the facility.

nursing staff is lazy, the assistants do all the work, no doctors on call, they show up once a week, this place is horrendous!
