I liked Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park. It was relatively new. Everything was updated, fresh, and clean looking. It's got a nice, open lobby. I really was impressed with the rooms that they have. They have a nurse there 24 hours. They have activities for the people. They showed where people had painted pictures and hung them up on the wall after they had done them. They had crafts and things like that for the residents. They have the dining room, like most of the places do. They had a lovely outdoor area for seating, it's clean, and it had benches and chairs. They take them out to doctor appointments or whatever. They have the transportation. Pretty much a lot of things are available there. I was impressed with the room because it's nice sized. They had it furnished, so they had a double bed in there with a nightstand alongside of it. They had a built-in large cabinet with mini refrigerator and microwave in it, a regular closet, a room for a single dresser that you could bring in, and a chair. There's plenty of room in there and it does come with a TV all ready and set up for every room. You don't have to bring your own. It had the private bathroom, which to me was important for my mom and the walk-in shower and everything you would expect for elderly people. The lady that showed us the tour was very, very nice. The other people there were saying hello and being friendly. It's very clean.

I am writing about my experience with my mother, who resided at Eskaton Lodge in Cameron Park from March 2016 until her death on February, 2018. She was 102 years old when she died. During the time my mother lived at Eskaton she sustained 8 separate documented falls. These falls resulted in a broken arm, bruises on her face and body, and serious lacerations that required lengthy follow-up care by a wound nurse and multiple trips to the Emergency Room and/or hospital. Her final fall was on January 28, 2018, where she was found early in the morning unconscious on the bathroom floor with a head wound that turned out to be fatal. The State of California Department of Social Services did a lengthy investigation after my call, and determined that out of 4 allegations, 1 was declared as "Substantiated": "Facility staff neglected resident resulting in multiple falls." The State issued a Type A Citation to Eskaton. Two remaining allegations were determined to be 'Unsubstantiated" stating "A finding that the complaint is Unsubstantiated means that although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of the evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred. " I was never personally called after my mother fell because my sister had formed the primary relationship with Eskaton, so I would only find out after her release from the hospital, or after I would visit my mother and see the bandages, or cast, or bruises and she would confess to another fall. After each of my mother's falls I called or wrote Eskaton to state my deep concern about my mother's safety and well-being. I felt like I had become a very unwelcome squeaky wheel, and was completely shut out of any conversation about my mother's care. I visited my mother every Sunday for half a day, and sometimes during the week. I became alarmed at my mother's loss of weight, her depression, and her extreme lack of balance. Several times when I was in the room with her she careened forward or back and I dashed to get underneath her as she fell--I hurt myself on one of those falls. I would always tell whoever was on staff that this had happened. As my mother's weight went from 125 pounds upon her entry there to under 110 pounds and she all but stopped eating I talked to the person on staff at the time, and followed up with an email to the nursing staff asking if my mother could receive extra nutrition, but my email was never responded to. I also directly asked the nursing staff if my mother could be provided a protein shake for a snack, but I was ignored. I joined my mom upstairs for many meals, and watched her push her food around on her plate but refuse to eat but I never received even the courtesy of an answer from Eskaton about other sources of nutrition. My mother often said she wished she could 'talk to someone'... privately, and uninvolved with Eskaton or our family. She said she wanted to feel a little more in control of her life, and to talk about her depression. I asked several times if that could be arranged for her. Somehow that never happened. My mother's last days were spent almost entirely alone. I was at her bedside every night after 6 o'clock, where she had been left with no caretaker for several hours. Twice, during the last couple weeks of her life, I walked in to witness her shockingly standing up and trying to walk with no one in the room--pitching forward. I caught her by the waist one of those times, and frantically pressed the call button to get someone in to help us. Finally, her bed was blocked by furniture so she couldn't manage to get up and out... I have spent 30 years working in the medical field, and I know the kind of care my mother should have received had but did not get. I am so sorry I could not have helped her more at Eskaton.

Mom has been here just over 2 years now and we couldn't be happier with the care she gets. All of her needs are met with caring and friendly staff. Food is great too. While mom has dementia and cannot always participate with activities, there are certainly a nice variety daily and weekly. Musical guests are wonderful since mom loves music and dancing.

We chose Eskaton Lodge for my dad 5 years ago. It wasn't an easy process acknowledging that we needed to find a place for dad that wasn't home. We looked at a lot of facilities and knew almost the minute that we walked in that It "felt right". Eskaton Lodge is homey and the staff was immediately welcoming. They supported us with every step. The private rooms are spacious and we were able to decorate his room so it looked liked home. It isn't a large facility and we really liked the personal, family feel. They had a lot of activities that kept him engaged as well as personal attention that ,we honestly feel, slowed the progression of his dementia. We were able to come and have meals with my dad in the dining room (the food is really good!) and join my dad for fun holiday celebrations. The staff became a second family to us. Unfortunately, my dad passed away last October. We never regretted our decision having him there. In fact, when we needed to find a place for my mom, we chose Eskaton Lodge again. My mom has only been there a short time but is already enjoying the meals, social activities and outings. The staff is so accommodating and is making every effort in making her feel at home too. The peace-of-mind in having her there is priceless.

Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park was well maintained and well managed. The residents seemed happy. I was impressed with the amount of light because of the huge windows in the rooms.

My dad and mom who are 95 and 94 years old reside at Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park. I am so grateful that they are in this incredible facility. This place does an amazing job of hiring very qualified people for each and every position. Qualified in the sense that they not only do their assigned duties extremely well, but also qualified in the sense that they all have caring hearts for the elderly. They love them all the time and in so many ways. Not just taking care of the daily issue of the residents, but zeroing in on the special needs of each person and knowing each resident and their family members by name. The quality of the daily events keeps the residents entertained, energized, the dining is always nutritional and delicious, and the health care is superb with constant observations of each resident. The special events are well organized and very well done, for instance at Easter, they not only had a high quality buffet but also had live baby chicks and rabbits as well as live jazz music ensemble which entertained the residents as well as their guest. They seem to always do a little extra. The feel of ELCP is definitely like home with snacks and coffee always available for anyone. I so appreciate that they inform me immediately when they notice a health care issue or see a shift in my parents actions or demeanor. I am grateful that my parents are residing in such a remarkable facility.

I can't imagine a better facility, from day one the care and attention to detail have been top notch. My Mom moved to Eskaton just a few weeks after my Dad passed so needless to say it was a rough time but the staff and the other residents were so supportive and authentically caring that it was a very smooth transition. The staff at Eskaton is truly amazing; it's not an easy task finding and keeping such devoted care givers and I hope they know how much they're appreciated.

I cannot say enough about the quality of care my mother has received at Eskaton. She has not only resided there, she has thrived due to the wonderful care and attention she has received. The nursing team, the dietitian, and the social aspects have made her last year's very happy and peaceful. Thank you all.

My mother is currently a resident. She absolutely loves it! She told me that the residents and staff are her "family". I, as a daughter, am extremely happy with the care she receives. She is always well-cared for and I never have to worry, which is a relief. I can't say enough about how much my mom and I love the Lodge.

Everybody has a choice at Eskaton. We can have anything we want off the menu, or the alternative menu like turkey breast. It's comfort food. They get the towels for you and make the beds for you. It's reassuring. I'm the only cat lady here.

I visited Eskaton Lodge. I really loved that place. It was wonderful. The people were great. The rooms were very spacious and had built-in cabinets, a refrigerator, a big flat-screen TV included, and a private bathroom. It would be wonderful for my mom if she could go there. However, they do not have any rooms available with a flat entry into the shower. There were activities happening every day.

The room was OK, but I just didn’t think Eskaton Lodge was the right fit for my dad, so we didn’t pick that place. We looked at it, walked around, went upstairs, and looked at the dining room. I didn’t like it. I didn’t think it was very clean.

Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park was just one facility for residents. It was a lot smaller so it meant it had less residents. So, you would have more attention, possibly because there were less people to take care off. Their community room was small, but they were loads of people in that room. I knew that the activity director was doing something in that area on the day that we visited, and a lot of people were involved. So, that was kind of good. The rooms were smaller there, but they were also very nice. They had outings. They also took their people to their doctor's appointments.

I have nothing but high praise for the staff at Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park. I moved my mother to Eskaton Lodge after a very negative experience in a home care situation. Everyone at Eskaton was so kind to my mom, and she really felt happy and cared for there. The entire staff treated her as a family member! They were always patient, accommodating, and extremely respectful to mom. The caregivers and the nursing staff took initiative to solve any large or small issues that came up (like mom not wanting to eat) and never gave up trying to find solutions. The kitchen staff went out of their way to prepare foods that mom requested. I was also impressed with the low staff turnover. Employees seemed to truly like each other and like working at Eskaton. My family and I will be forever grateful that we found this gem of a place so close to where we live in the foothills near our home. Thank you Eskaton Lodge for making the last years of mom's life ones that were so filled with love and care!

My mother lived at the Eskaton Lodge for many years. There were some challenging times for her as she had dementia. She was well cared for and had a good home there. The staff was always considerate and loving towards her. They administered her medications and saw to her needs with great skill. The meals were also well planned and delicious. I would highly recommend this community to anyone who is looking for assisted living.

The quality of care my aunt and uncle have received from Eskaton over the past two years is excellent. I find the community clean and well - maintained. The staff and administration are always kind and professional. I love how I can easily receive information regarding the status of my aunt and uncle whether it is in person during a visit or over the phone. They really care for their residents and treat them as if they were family.

Eskaton Lodge is fantastic. They have many activities, and the whole staff including caregivers, nurses, and the management, is all great. It makes my husband feel like he is needed somewhere. They call him by his first name. He likes it over there. He’s only been there almost 3 weeks, but he’s already gone to Wal-Mart. He went to a barbecue out in Cameron Park Lake, and they have entertainment come in all the time. What they do is they put a great big calendar on the wall. They say each and every day what they’re having, if there’s going to be a rock and roll group or somebody from the church coming in. That’s great for all those who can’t see too well. They have a maintenance man who is so wonderful. He does everything. We really like him. We had to have some batteries for a flashlight, and he said not to ever worry about buying batteries. He went and got me a black marker so I can mark the sheets. My husband is a hard one to please, especially when it comes to food, and he likes what he’s getting so far. It’s very clean. They gave him a room that just had new carpeting put in, a new refrigerator, and a new 40-inch TV, plus the fact that he’s not afraid to go out the door to go somewhere because he knows the whole area. We lived in Cameron Park for 12 years, so he’s familiar with the stores, restaurants, and everything around it, and that helps him. Our neighbors still live there and they’re visiting him, so he has more company that way.
