My sister is at Brookdale Bloomington. She'll be there until the end of the month. The staff seems to care about what's going on because she is very difficult, and they seem to be able to deal with her. I can certainly applaud them for that. The only other thing is that I didn't think they kept the room very clean. Now, my sister is horrible, so I understand that it's a challenge to keep her room clean, but I didn't think they did as good a job as I would have hoped. The place looked pretty nice. If we would keep my sister there, they were offering a very nice package that I wanted to go with because it was very reasonable. The thing was that they took her on a temporary status, to begin with, so she didn't have her own things in there and I wanted to move her into a new apartment they had available with her things so she would do better, but that didn't happen. The temporary furniture was not very nice, but I understand that they just threw some things together to get her in there.

Brookdale Bloomington wasn't what we were looking for. Not that there was anything wrong with it. The people there were so super friendly and accommodating and willing to answer all of our questions. It just wasn't the right fit. They showed us the one-bedroom apartment. It was set up in a circle, so no matter which way you went when you came out of a residential room, you kind of find your way towards the main common areas. I liked that aspect of it. The room had a kitchenette, a little microwave, a mini-fridge, and a sink. We had a great experience with the people that were there. It just wasn't the right fit for us. The layout was good, but the amenities were a little bit more dated. It seemed like it was an older building.

I am a retired nurse and daughter of a mother who has dementia and needs 24/7 assistance. I visited multiple facilities and chose Brookdale without reservation for many reasons: philosophy of aging in place;cleanliness; restaurant style dining experience; daily social activities; dementia care certification; and observed and experienced outstanding care. The residents are treated like family. Every staff member is friendly, responsive and caring. They work with you to create an individualized plan of care for your loved one!

My mom's in the hospital, but she was at Brookdale Bloomington right before that and they are amazing. They really are. It's a wonderful facility and beyond what I expected. The activities director is really fun. She's great. There's always something for the residents to do or to be engaged in. She does PT quite a few times a week. The nurses and CNAs are assisting her with all aspects of daily living. They helped my mom dress, shower, and all that. When we were moving in, the staff helped us carry our belongings. They were really great, attentive, and they care about each and every resident. They also know each and every resident's family and what their stories are. It's a super place. They have three meals a day, and if I wanted to, I could eat with her. I haven't eaten there, but she said it's good. The facility is clean, bright, and accommodating. The maintenance man takes care of everything, and if there's any issue, he's there. He even helped us hook up our phone and TV. He didn't have to do that, but he did, and he was great. There are, maybe, even cheaper places out there than Brookdale Bloomington, but you'll never get the care and the accommodations that they offer.

I visited this community recently looking for a place for my mother in law. The staff was so friendly and helpful, they put us at ease from the beginning. The building is clean and cozy. There are studios, 2 different sizes of a 1 bedroom and even a huge 2 bedroom with 2 bathrooms! The residents were having dinner and the food smelled and looked so good! Even with the limited tour, it was clear that this place is a great place. My MIL moved in this past weekend.

I had a friend in Brookdale Bloomington. It's smaller, very limited, with tiny rooms, and a small dining area, but it's not where I want to be. The food was OK, and they took care of her. It was assisted living, but I had someone extra taking care of her 24/7. It's more like a nursing home to me.

I visited Brookdale, and it used to be a memory care unit. The rooms are very small, it felt like a memory care facility. It's very limited, very small, and very safe if you have a loved one who tends to walk off. They have three types of rooms: one with just a bed, one with a bed and a chair, and the third has slightly more room, enough for a comfortable chair and a desk. They don't allow the residents to have kitchens, but they have a kitchenette that has a tiny sink, a half-size refrigerator, and a microwave. That would be difficult for someone who's still in pretty good shape, and still likes to have their independence. There's really no room to have a guest there to hang out with you. They showed me a place where you can have your hair done and they had an exercise room, but it's very limited, and very small.

I visited Brookdale Bloomingon two or three years ago. It was very clean, looked good, and had a great-looking dining area. They were having a piano concert at that time. The person who assisted me was very helpful and very nice.

I thought Brookdale was really nice. I really liked it, and it was close to our house. I thought my mom would like that one. The one who showed me around was very nice. I was impressed with the dining hall. It was a bit more expensive, though.

I chose Brookdale Bloomington for my mother, but she is not there yet. I like the place. It is a small unit. They have a decent dining room, a nice courtyard, and nice apartment living. The staff seemed friendly and responsible. I took my mother there for lunch, and the food was good. They appear to do different things and have a bus that goes on tours.

Everybody was very friendly at Brookdale Bloomington. The staff was great. They have a garden and a courtyard as well. With their activities, they have some story telling or reading time.

Sterling House was very clean. The lady that worked me through this thing was very informative and helpful, and I enjoyed going through there very much. They had a studio, and they had a bedroom with that studio apartment. It was clean and well kept. Everything was perfect. They were having activities then I was there. They had a guy playing piano for them. The cleanliness was excellent.

They were very helpful and explained everything to us. We absolutely probably would have wound up in Sterling House of Bloomington had the circumstances been different. The staff were very helpful. The rooms were very nice and clean. It was a nice facility. The dining room was a nice open area, and they had exercise, music, and games.

My mom ended up in Sterling House. That just fit her needs perfectly. She was moved there in March, and she has adapted fairly well. It's a little smaller, and it is also a much more controlled environment. We're hoping that if mom's dementia gets worse, we'll be able to adjust the kind of care she needs, and we won't have to move her. Sterling House is locked down. You can't get out unless somebody lets you out. The care has been very good. They've been very good to work with my sister who lives in that town. They have a lot of activities. They take them every week on Wednesday afternoons on a bus ride. They always stop for ice cream, so that lets them get out of the place if they want to and if they feel like it. Every Thursday, they either go to Kroger or Wal-Mart, and they alternate Thursdays. She is having her hair done. She's had the manicures. They have music. Mom has talked about a man and a woman that come in every other week, and they play a fiddle and a guitar. They do a jeopardy thing. I can go online and look at an activity calendar for the month. That's real helpful to me because I can see what kinds of things are available, and then I can call her a few days before and remind her. They have a very good activity director, and it seems to be very well-run. We have no complaints at all. The only thing she isn't real keen about is the food. She was used to eating pretty healthy. She doesn't eat hotdogs, and things like enchiladas, but they have alternatives. One of the bigger things that she's had to get adjusted to, is that the portion size is not quite what she was used to. The salads are in a smaller portion than she's used to getting when she used to eat out. We were real lucky that they had a room that was available in a real short notice. She has her own tiny little apartment. It has a kitchen, a little bedroom, and a big bathroom. We've been able to take some of her furniture from her house down there, so that's been really good.

I live in an assisted home now at Sterling House of Bloomington. I have been here for almost three years now. Regarding the staff, they haven't had enough help since last fall, so that makes everything run late. Nevertheless, they treat me fine, and I get along fine with them. I have a private apartment, which is too small. They also don't have enough activities. Most of them are geared towards people who can't do much of anything. They have their exercises, but when it comes to playing cards, we play Uno and Crazy Eight, which are children's games. Regarding food, it is better than any place I have ever been. They of course have to follow what the Health Department tells them to serve, but other than that, it is edible. They also have a nice dining room. We each have our own seat.

We liked Sterling House. It had a very home like setting and they had everything there. They were above and beyond and they were five stars all the way around from the food, to the staff, to the room. It was excellent. They had activities like bingo, theater, cards, crafts and they took them out shopping. We wouldn't have even looked anywhere else. However, we were just not able to pick it for my grandmother because her insurance wouldn't cover it as it is an assisted living only and not skilled nursing.

The Sterling House in Bloomington, Indiana seems to be a great assisted-living facility. Residents of the facility range in degrees of required care, but those who are up and able to be about on their own seem to be content. The dining facilities are what impressed me most. The atmosphere doesn't feel clinical or cafeteria-like. The tables are dressed with actual linens and the area is decorated nicely to reflect a high level of personal taste. Residents are able to enjoy their own activities in their rooms and have things the way they want them. If they want to display a doll collection or a favorite quilt, they can. If I remember right, there were also areas that allowed residents to visit in small groups, read or watch TV. As with any facility like this, some residents did look bored and some seemed in too poor of health to be there, but that goes with anyplace like this. Most staff seemed helpful and engaged.
