We went with Mountain Vista Retirement Residence. My dad got a two-bedroom apartment with a handicapped bathroom, a full kitchen, and everything. They have 19 apartments. They are independent living, so they have to buy their own food or cook for themselves and take care of themselves. They do have pull cords in each bedroom and in the bathroom. The 19 apartments are connected to a nursing home. So if they have to pull one of those cords, someone from the nursing home would come to help them. They also have an office staff that checks on them. They have what's called a Monday Munchies and Coffee, where they bring stuff in and different apartments get together. They have bingo. They have a library that they can use for movies, books, and puzzles. It's kind of set up like an assisted living, but you don't have the meals cooked for you and you don't have the CNAs coming in. The apartments are really spacious. They each have a little enclosed patio. They have an inside garage to go right into the building. They leave a shopping cart down there. If they go shopping, they can put all their groceries from their car into the shopping cart and roll it down to their apartment on the inside. My kids live there, and one daughter is coming to help with pills and laundry once a week. My dad is getting out on his own to go grocery shop, and he goes to church on his own. He drives, so he's doing really good. There are only two ladies in the office, and they're awesome. They have some guys come in and do snow shoveling, removing snow, and everything. They check on them. There's someone on-call on the weekends from the office. They're really good with them. They go out of their way to help them. Everything is accessible to them. They also have a big kitchen and a dining room, where you can have family come in. You can use their kitchen or the kitchen in the apartment. Then you can use that big dining room to have your family come in. They have bingo. They have different singing groups come in. They have the Boy Scouts come in and do crafts. A lot of the homeschooling groups come in and do crafts, read with them, or things like that. They have an exercise room with minimal equipment. They have a pool table, a treadmill, bicycles, and things like that. They schedule people to come in and do toenails for the elderly.
