Ashly Gardens, Mt. Vernon, WA January 29, 2019 Ashley Gardens showed up in Shirley’s life just in time. She was having behavioral problems: striking the nurses and staff, threatening other patrons, peeing on the floor, spitting meds, and being handcuffed by strong men nightly at the emergency ward of Northwest Geriatric Hospital. She was afraid, and so was I, her eldest son. I wasn’t sure if there was a dementia care facility that could take on my mom. And I had 48 hours to find one before the hospital would hand her back to me because her health insurance didn’t cover this kind of care for more than a couple of weeks. I had looked around Seattle and entertained dozens of ideas. Out of desperation I threw a dart at the phone book and dialed a couple places up north. Helen F, the Senior Director at Mt Vernon, got back to me immediately. I explained my situation and we agreed to meet that afternoon at the hospital. She showed up confident and went into high gear, interviewing Shirley, checking the logs and records, making sense out of the insensible. We stepped into a private office and she said, “Don’t worry. This happens a lot. Our team is very good at this. Come up to Mt Vernon tomorrow and see the memory care for yourself.” I drove up with my daughter the next day. There were two memory care facilities I wanted to check out and we turned it into a day trip. The first care facility was nice and I liked the less expensive price point. Shortly after, we stepped into Ashley Gardens and met Helen. We took a took a tour of the 40 bed memory care. It was clean, with almost none of the odors I had come to associate with hospitals the last two weeks. Very clean. The building was pretty, the staff professional, the patrons content. I told my daughter, “I like the first place.” She gave me that daughter look, then explained why Ashley Gardens would be a good fit for Grandma. I had two discerning brothers on the east coast who were waiting on our decision. I wisely followed my daughters advice and said, “ Ashly Gardens it is.” Shirley lived comfortably at Ashley Gardens for two years, passing on January 28, 2019. She was a foreign language student, and was best known for her insistence of referring to the staff as, Ma ’dame.

I have seen how well cared for the residents are at Ashely Gardens of Mount Vernon. Kind, treated like family. Their dining is in a homey type atmosphere and they have 24 hour nurses on staff. Music therapy and interactive daily activities. Rooms are nice and families are encouraged to personalize their rooms for even more comfort and familiarity for the resident. Beautiful community, incredible, attentive care.

I have been friends of a gentleman thats wife was here for several years. He has nothing but great things to say about Ashley Gardens. When ever I visited, the staff was always so helpful and caring. This is a place I would defiantly want my loved ones to be cared for.

My mother lived at Ashley Gardens for about two years until a few months ago. Ashley Gardens is by far the best community when it comes to care. The care staff are very attentive and genuinely care. From doing the nails, curling the hair to dressing the ladies, so they look great when we come in. There was never a day I worry about my mom's care. I highly recommend Ashley Gardens.

This facility has so much potential and it is beyond SAD to hear that this is better than most places in the region. The workload the caregivers have at the extremely low wage they are getting paid is unacceptable. The turn around for their employees is very quick (sometimes not even a week). They are quick to hire because they are “desperate” and then find out they are “duds”, leaving the “quality” workers burnt out. The caregivers are to take care of the residents, laundry, housekeeping, dish out meals etc. They have one nurse to all of the residents. That nurse is responsible for all the medications to be passed, process orders, take phone calls, assure the floor is staffed adequately. Everyone appears very overwhelmed. I’m sure you can imagine what kind of happy environment everyone is working in. Management gives people with little to no experience positions they shouldn’t have been offered in the first place. Very chaotic environment, the care the residents receive is subpar. People are held to different standards because of “language barriers”. Overall, if you’re going to pay that kind of money out of pocket... just hire someone skilled to do the work from your home. Corporate needs to be a little more proactive with their staff with the kind of money they make from each individual resident.

My father was in AshleyGardens for 63 months. He passed away April 2018. My mother and I are forever grateful to the amazing staff at AshleyGardens, from Helen to all of the daily staffers including Racquel in the kitchen who gave excellent care and concern for my father his entire time he was there. Katie and the various staffers over 5 years have the utmost of respect and gratitude from my mother and I. We recommend Ashley Gardens to anyone looking for a new home with dementia issues. God Bless you all!

My husband was discharged from the hospital and Helen did not hesitate to take my husband. I am forever grateful to the wonderful loving and caring Staff at Ashley Gardens. It made his stay memorable. He was comfortable in his clean room and environment. He loved the food that he took seconds to think that he is a picky eater. He enjoyed participating their daily activities and the scenic bus rides. A Podiatrist was available for Footcare. Overall I was happy and satisfied with the services that they provided my husband. Again thank you all for a commendable job!

My Dad was at Ashley Gardens for over 2 years before he passed. The staff were amazing, kind and compassionate. They treated my Dad with dignity and respect through some difficult times. Our family can't say enough about the staff.

My wife has been a resident during the past two years at Ashley Gardens, where she is receiving excellent care from a compassionate staff. The meals are good, the rooms are clean, and residents can participate in many interesting activities.

My mother is in Ashley Gardens, and they take very good care of her. They have notes, and they know what she wants, what she likes to eat, so they’re very good about paying attention to that. It’s very clean well kept. The rooms she’s in is a little bit crowded, but it’s very clean and neat.
