My mom moved to Avista Ferndale. It's all on one level. It's very easy to navigate and clean. The staff was very helpful and compassionate. They are very willing to assist you in any of the needs of the new resident. Their kitchens froze out this winter, so they're about five weeks out of getting their full kitchen back up and running. So they've been pretty limited on what they can provide, but it's not any worse than any other place she's been. They have happy hours. They have outside people coming in for entertainment. They have crafts available every day. They have a courtyard in the middle of their facility, and they provide flowers for planting. There are bird feeders. They can go out, sit outside, and watch the birds. It's very, very nice.

The doors were all locked well, so you have to communicate to get in. If you're a senior who's worried about safety, you don't need to worry about that. It's a secure place. It also looked nice. It's modern, and it has been renovated. The hallways were nice, wide, and airy. The rooms were small, but I guess for one or two people, they're adequate. For us, it's small because we would have to get rid of a lot of stuff. Emily was wonderful, and she was excellent at her job. The dining area was restaurant style and looked nice. They also have a patio where you can eat outside with tables and a nice courtyard in the middle that had lots of flowers and birds. It's just lovely. They also had a room where people can cook, and then for the men, they make birdhouses, play jigsaw puzzles, and do all sorts of games. They also play bingo every day, and they have entertainment once a week where a jazz band comes in. They're very sociable. It's like they're a family where everybody knows each other, so they're all very pleasant. They gave us lunch, and it was very nice too. We had lots of ham, black scalloped potatoes, broccoli, cupcakes, and juice or whatever we wanted to drink. They also had a laundry room where a lady did all the laundry, and they had a cleaning staff. They do everything for you, they're very efficient, and they do a good job.

I toured here for my father-in-law, it was very friendly, very welcoming, very clean, and very inviting. In the short time, we were there, we saw a games room, and a TV room where people could go to gather there. There was a garden area outside. There was a lounge where people could visit. That was about all we saw. They were clean, they were in good shape, and it looks like they had the safety measures in place that needed to be there.
