had a family member in there

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in here to gain her strength from her muscle being week. While being there they let her fall and because of that she has had to have surgery because she broke her leg under there care.they also didn’t let me know for over an hour after she fell. But one of our family members let me know when it happened. The only part of her being there that was good was the therapy. There was a few nurses that was so mean to her. The food is awful. I brought hers in. The room was not very clean.

We have chosen Regency for my sister. It's a little outdated, but it's okay. The staff is wonderful. She likes it, and she wants to stay there. She says they're very respectful to her. She doesn't eat much and the food doesn't look very appetizing to me. The only thing she does now is rehab and she said it's good and it helps her walk. She likes her room and it's very clean and very nice. You can't go inside; you have to go to the window. She has a TV and two beds in her room, but she's the only one in there.

My sister was a resident at this facility. She came with a port in her chest from Sentara Careplex and after being there only four days the port was cut out of her chest by a nurse. When the evening staff tried to administer antibiotics to her the port was missing. No one had access but the day nurse. They took her to Riverside to have another port put in. The surgeon said the only way the port was missing was it was cut. After being there almost two weeks her foot wasn't getting any better from the amputation my sister called her doctor and she told her to go to the ER and they admitted her with congestive heart failure and are doing surgery for further amputation. Regency Rehab is more of a death trap. The doctor said he wished they would have kept her at the hospital. They didn't follow the doctor's instructions. How do your toes mummify and you have blood flowing. Occupational and physical therapy did not do their job. Was she even getting the antibiotics. Her feet hadn't even been washed the entire time she was there. The site of the injection was dirty with dried blood around it. This place needs to be investigated.

I visited this facility

The staff at Regency Health and Rehabilitation was friendly, and the rooms were nice. It's a beautiful community, and they're almost finished with their renovations. It's worth taking a look at. I would've picked them if it hadn't been for the distance from where I live, and because it was more expensive than others.

If I could give this so called facility a 0 rating I would. My dad was entered into this facility for rehab. At first glance we thought it was a clean and respectful place for him to be. WE WERE WRONG! After going over the list of medications with the nurse upon arrival they continued for two days to get it wrong. Thank you God above my dad had his right mind and knows what he does and doesn't have to take and when. These medications are a lifeline for him. He also had to be cathed every 8 hours. The male nurse decided that he didn't need to change gloves and use what sterile gloves that came in the cath kit. He thought it would be okay to use the same ones he put on when entering the room and touching different objects. When my mom said something to him he decided to get rude and lie about using the sterile gloves. The gloves in the kit didn't even fit him so that was proof needed. When he finally did get sterile he was way to rough cathing him to the point my mom had to say something. My dad's oxygen level dropped to 88 and he started to build fluid. When asking a nurse if we could see the on call Dr. (who hadn't been in since my dad arrived) we were told that he lived in Carolina and that wasn't going to happen. When the on call nurse was called she never answered and it took to long to wait. My mom called VCU and the told her if she felt he was being mistreated to call 911. That is exactly what we did. They tried to get 3 of my family members to sign an AMA. All of which refused! To make an even longer story short as I type this I am sitting by my dad in the hospital where he is on high flow oxygen. He is a very sick man and there is no doubt he would be dead if he stayed at that place any longer.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been to four other facilities in the area and this place is by far the best. I really appreciate what the nursing and therapy staff were able to do for me here. They do therapy 7 day a week and really keep you engaged during your whole stay. The recovery map was nice to track my progress and keep me motivated. I would definitely recommend.

I was really pleased with the nursing services here. The CNAs were attentive and made sure I has comfortable, in the beginning I couldn't move much so they kept an extra eye on me. Once I started progressing in therapy it was good to go to dining room. I highly recommend this place, if you have any doubts go see it for yourself.

I visited this facility

I visited a friend at this facility that was a patient there for almost 2 months after a fall at home. The staff were extremely personable and always had a smile on. I have visited other nursing facilities through volunteer work and no others compare to this one in terms of cleanliness and staff friendliness. I hope I never have an accident but if I ever had to go to a rehab center this is where I would like to be.

This place is horrific. The staff is in competent. My grandmother was bathed by the janitor/security man. She laid in her feces for hours because they only changed once a shift. She was admitted for rehabilition but died and never came home.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I had visited my uncle quite often at Regency Health & Rehabilitation Center. For a nursing home, I suppose it was fine. He was a younger person. He was just physically incapable of taking care of himself, but he was mentally fine. It was more designed for people who were mentally unable to make decisions and cannot really think for themselves. He did not like to be there and he had no one to talk to. He was very dissatisfied with it. It always looked clean and it always seemed to be clean, but there was always a smell in the air. As far as nursing homes go, it was probably just as good as any other. The rooms were of good size. There were usually two people in each room and each had their own bed. They can have a television.

They need more than one residence phone, it is next to impossible to get to talk to the residence at times.

My loved one stayed here

My mother was abused in this nursing home. Her story was featured on WAVY TV Channel 10 on Your Side. It included allowing her to fall several times, jamming her compression stocking on and injuring her leg, leaving her sitting in feces, a nurse changing her diaper smearing the feces around and laughing, and knocking her arm from under her while she was sitting in her wheelchair as a nurse's aide walked by her and laughing about it. The rest of the story is pretty horrifying and too long for this forum. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR LOVED ONE! It's a shame that in my mother's last year of life she had to endure the pain and torture inflicted on her by Regency Health Care Center and its staff. My family will never get over that!
