The biggest thing about the Hilltop is the price. It's a lot cheaper than it is here in West Virginia. It's a very nice place. My wife is still adjusting to the change. The biggest thing is the people are walking in there, and they take her shoes, they take her glasses, and they take her clothes, so that's my biggest point. The people that work there are very friendly. They're very good. It's a really nice place. They're doing great with her. She shares a room with somebody else. It's a very pretty building. They have a few activities. My wife has a wrist band on that sets off alarms whenever she goes through a door. Even though the door is not locked, it's like whenever she goes through it, someone has to go reset the alarm. You have to go through that door and out a great big place to get to where the activities are. So I really don't think that she goes there.

I needed to keep Mom in Virginia and Hilltop would be close to home and close to work. It's over my budget, but when I did a tour there about a month ago, they looked like they cared and they spent a lot of time with me explaining everything I needed to know. I had a good tour of their memory care. The staff there was great. I had no issues with them. They have a lot of amenities. They've got everything there that's needed. They do medication management, laundry, incontinence management, and then occupational therapy. In the main building, there's a hair salon, if you want to do the extra thing.

My mother-in-law moved into Hilltop. We like that the unit is locked. The facility is very clean. My mother-in-law has a roommate. She thinks it's very compatible, and they made sure that she would be. The communication is good. They have three meals and snacks during the day. They have a calendar of activities and the activities that they have, seem to be very appropriate for dementia. They also have a TV room where they put movies on.

My mother-in-law has moved into Hilltop. It's very nice. When you step through the door, there's an area that has a TV for the residents. It's very nice. Then when you go down the hallway, there's an area where you can bring your loved one out. In the memory care piece, each resident has their own room. They're well-engaged. It's absolutely clean. We bring our own furniture. Everybody has their own furniture and it's very comfortable. The staff is very good with her and very patient. They're that way with all of the residents, from what we can tell. The dining area is very nice. She likes the food. She tries to take food from other residents, especially chocolate. They have plenty of activities for them. We weren't sure how she would do in an environment with others because she had lived by herself for so long, and she has made progress. She fits in there well. She enjoys it. We are very surprised. They have singalongs. They have remembrance times. They have activities as far as physical activities, such as ball throwing and catching. What was nice, too, about them is that you don't see the residents at this memory care sitting in the hallway in wheelchairs or beds. They're all up and moving around and walking. They have a TV room that they can all sit in and watch movies. They are very active and it's very nice to see that.

I toured Hilltop. The tour experience was very good. The tour guide gave me a thorough tour of the area. The staff member was very nice. She was relatively new to the job, but she did a very good job in listening to what our needs were. She took a lot of time with me to show me the facility and to introduce me to some of the staff. They had multiple dining areas, but they were mediocre. They needed to be cleaned very well. They weren't dirty, but they were sort of not very tidy. They could have used a little bit more service. The best things about Hilltop were the location and the friendliness of the staff. The size of it was great, too. However, it needed some updating. It was slightly rundown looking and needed sort of a fresh look to it. It seemed they were also a little understaffed. I had a soup and sandwich, and it was good.

My sister-in-law stayed at Hilltop. When you walk into the lobby, you get a different opinion of the facility, like it's been upgraded. But when we went into the room, I found that was not the case. It was very bare and not very homey. My sister-in-law was only there for a week, so things could have been different if she had been a long-term resident there, where she could bring in her own things and make it more personable. She didn't complain about the food. She said the food was good. She shared a room with another lady, and it was clean. It's just a basic room. I wasn't as comforted by the availability of nursing staff or anything like that. The facility was very clean and well-maintained. For the money that we paid, it was good because it filled the need at the moment.

Hilltop was nice and clean. They had a lot of amenities and a lot of things for their clients to do. They also have a memory care unit. The staff during the tour was very knowledgeable and helpful.

My mom has moved into Hilltop. I like how clean, warm, and caring it seemed to be. Their staff is compassionate under a lot of stress. They made us feel at ease when we were having a hard time moving her. My mom's room is about 18 ft X 18 ft. It has a window, a closet, a sink, and a shared bathroom with another resident. It is just the two of them. It is kind of dormitory style, but it is bright and clean. They are extremely accommodating to what we could bring in for her. They are on top of her needs and her health care. They do everything from outings, movie nights, games, puzzles, and interactive meals. They check on them for hydration four or five times a day. They also make sure they're eating snacks on top of their regular meals, getting up and moving, taking walks, and socializing. I was extremely impressed with just the mindset of the staff there. I know it's easy to get burnt out and not hide it. They were all extremely professional, loving, caring, and reassuring. They have checked in with me several times. After a very long moving day, they were unflappable and fantastic. They never once made us feel like we were a burden.

We were guests at this community Holiday Celebration on Saturday with a friend and we had such a great time. The staff were all involved with the residents and all residents and from what I could tell everyone who was in attendance had a great time. The food was amazing and even gave us so much we couldn’t eat it all. We are excited to come back for the next event.

I have been to this facility several times to visit a family member. They appear short staffed each time I am there; caregivers are often absent or occupied with other duties. During a recent visit, the person at the front desk paid little attention to our arrival (someone else let us in) and when she did, she acted a bit irritated at the interruption. The sign-in book and visitor tracking process are a mess, DSS inspection reports are dismal, particularly with regard to tracking medication and care, and I have yet to see an inspection report posted during any of my visits. At one point, there were things piled in the bathtub which did not appear to have been used recently. There are several activities listed on the calendar. Overall, I would recommend looking elsewhere, if possible.

We went to look at Hilltop and talked with the admissions lady. She was very good at showing us all the different wings, the dining facility, and the facility as a whole. The outdoor facility is paved and easy to get around. It's enclosed, so there's no chance of anybody escaping from the memory care section. There seemed to be a second outdoor area, and they had a place where you could pot some plants if you wanted to, so that was very nice. The staff members that I met were very personable and nice. The facility was very nice, clean, and had nice wide halls.

The memory care at Hilltop is a locked facility and we were extremely impressed with the level of contact they have with their residents. They're very hands-on. When you walked in the door, it felt like home. It has a very, very relaxed atmosphere and I found that the employees truly loved their residents. I didn't always feel that in some of the other ones we went into. It had a very homey feel and they put in a lot more hours than they're getting paid to put in. So, it would seem to fit our father better than the other places we had seen. The place was spotless. They have single occupancy and double occupancy rooms available. They gave us a tour back in the kitchen where I met the people that cook the meals, and no place has ever taken us back there. They have several different food and dining areas. The memory care residents have their own dining area as opposed to the rest of the home, but it was adequate, comfortable, and decorated nicely. My experience with the staff has been wonderful. They have been in contact with us several times to make sure we had all the information we needed and what questions we might have and that sort of thing, as opposed to other ones that we went to that I've not heard from. They are very attentive to their residents and the family of the residents, very understanding, very caring, and they seem to know what they're doing in this facility.

I have a relative who resides on the Memory Care Wing at Hilltop. She always appears well taken care of and loved. I often see the staff come by to just check on her, provide beverages or give her a hug. The staff and the nurse are always friendly and kind. While I believe Hilltop struggles with some of the same staffing issues as other facilities, there are always staff available when I am present. The ladies at the front desk are also particularly helpful to me.

My wife has been going to Hilltop for almost two years in the Memory Unit. I have been pleased with her care. They were short-staffed for a while, but a change in management seems to have fixed that problem. The staff has always been courteous and helpful to me and helped me with a problem with my insurance. On two occasions, I went to them about a concern I had with their care. Both times they thanked me for talking with them and said they would take care of the problem. And they did. I am also delighted with the way they treat my wife. They are compassionate and loving and treat her with dignity.

In the past, there had been some question to whether the staff were doing efficient work. But recently, Hilltop staff have changed and is now run by new management! I can honestly say that I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the new management. True moral character, friendly and accommodating service. I couldn't have asked for better! Whatever you need, they have truly stepped up to make you feel at home. Being away from home is hard, and having to be away from your loved ones is even harder. But if you have to seek care outside of the home, this is a place where you will get exceptional care from exceptional people!

This is the most terrible place that you could ever put anyone into. My mother was placed into this horrible facility and her condition declined very rapidly due to the extremely poor care she received here. The food was terrible, the Memory Care Unit was unappealing and smelled bad. It was severely understaffed, and the staff was unresponsive to my mother’s needs. My mother did not get enough to eat of drink and was denied proper first aid and other basic medical attention here. When I would try to ask for for food, drinks of water, or basic medical attention for my mother, I was told that I was ”stressing the staff.” Many things that I brought to my mother mysteriously seemed to come up missing with no plausible explanation from the staff. They do not supply much in the way of basic toiletry items for residents, and my mother's clothing and other things were often ”lost.” When I wanted to get permission for my mother to see her specialist physicisns, Hilltop not only does not supply transportation, but I was told that they do not even allow their residents to leave the facility for this purpose! There are no hearing or vision care services or dental care services available for residents. The rooms are small and plain. lRun, do not walk, away from Hilltop in Winchester!

This Home use to be so nice when it was a family busness. It was sold to an organization out of Northern Va that owns several homes. It has become a disaster. My Mom has been there 9 years. The cost went up.The food has gotten bad and they have a large turnover of staff. Short staffed many times. They barely celebrate or decorate for holidays. It's really sad this has what has become of it..

The Hilltop House was very, very nice. It was a new and beautiful facility, but it just didn’t fit our needs because my sister is younger. Their rooms were beautiful. It was like a hotel, and it was less expensive.

We like Hilltop House a lot. We had re-scheduled a time to go there, but we can't use anything up yet because mom still is in the hospital. It's very clean, and it did not smell like a nursing home. We already arranged for her to get there, but we couldn’t transport her because she was so ill. It's literally 7 minutes to my house and I would be passing the pharmacy on the way. Everything was really nice and very convenient. My parents were very excited about coming up, but nature took a different course.

My uncle used to stay at Hilltop House. It was a nice facility. He looked good, nice and clean when he was there. The room where he stayed at was kept clean and the staff was very helpful.

Hilltop House is a comfortable, affordable assisted living community with good amenities & personal care. With 24 hour trained health care personnel in charge of monitoring all medications & prescriptions at no additional charge, your loved ones will be well observed & taken care of. Daily activities include crafts, movies, animal visits, and birthday parties. Another perk is each resident is provided with hair care/styling each week. The couple in charge of meals has over 40 years in food preparation, so the food in as tasty as it is nutritious. Other amenities include lounges, a community dining room, beauty & barber shop, linen service, juice & coffee bar & picnic area. The apartments themselves are basic & cozy ranging from approximately 400-600 square feet. All in all, the Hilltop House is a functional community with good amenities & basic living conditions.

All of the staff members at the facility are very friendly and caring for the residents, and I know that Mr. and Mrs. Smith take great care to ensure only caring and responsible people are hired at their facility. A large number of the residents suffer from some form of dementia or Alzheimer's, and so it can be tasking for staff members to help care for them. However, I've seen nothing but compassion, patience, and love towards these residents. Several of them were in a sense abandoned by their families and sort of left there to live out the rest of their days, and so the empathetic nature of the care towards these elderly people is exceptionally heartwarming. The building itself is starting to age a bit, but I wouldn't consider it that much of an issue. Overall, the Hilltop House is certainly a desirable place for an elderly person to be.
