This is a fabulous faith-based community with a wonderful foundation that helps people come in (if they qualify and can't afford it) and keep the residents here with 5-star healthcare, even if they run out of money at no fault of their own. Everyone is busy and happy. We moved here from out of state and it took us a long time to find it but it was the best decision ever -- and what a gift to our kids who will never have to take us in or put us someplace where we don't want to be. We are ecstatic about living here!!! It is not more expensive than other places, if you consider what you are getting -- including top notch medical care for the rest of your life with few added costs over what you pay in your Independent Living apartment.

We toured Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay. The best thing about them is the ocean, and I can see it from the room that I chose. My daughter described it as a posh resort area. It did not feel like a nursing home or anything like that, or an old people's home. It was very nice. The staff was adorable. She took a lot of time, took us everything that we wanted to see there, and explained how everything worked. She took a great deal of time showing us around. She was great. The cleanliness and structure of the building was great. The atmosphere inside was very friendly. I loved it. When we went in, they logged us, took our pictures, and gave us tags so everybody knew that we belonged there and we felt safe.

Don’t let the vast marble floors of independent living confuse you- the nursing home is what you would find anywhere and must deal with the same obstacles, lack of staff, high turnover, unrealistic expectations, cold “ unknown” food!!! Staff is overstretched and can’t possibly attend to as many residents as they are expected Perhaps the stress on staff leads to the negative environment

I know people in the assisted living of Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay Retirement Community. They're 5-star, they're really expensive but you definitely get your money's worth. Usually when I go there, there were people in the reception desk and then my friend invites me for lunch, so I saw the wait staff. Those were the only groups of people that I see but they're very nice. The food is very good, it's excellent. They have a wide variety of choices. The rooms were beautiful and well-maintained, and if you're lucky you'll have a view of the Chesapeake Bay. It's nice. The place was very clean and well-maintained.

Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay is a really nice place. It's on Virginia Beach and it's a really classy place, therefore it's quite expensive. The girl that works there gave us the tour and she was fabulous. I talked to her just the other day and she's very good at what she does. They have a variety of apartments and our only interest would be the one-bedroom. They have everything you need and want. It's just top right. The one thing that I really liked is being on the beach, because I love walking on the beach, and I lived on a beach before; I know what that is and that's really important me. They also have an exercise room, a pool, and anything you can think of.

I was in rehab at Westminster-Canterbury. It was excellent. The staff was excellent. However, it was completely out of our price range. The food was excellent. They had a full range of activities. The rooms were clean and well decorated. It was beautiful.

I'm a resident of Westminster Canterbury Chesap, and the place is like a five-star hotel. The staff is excellent, but the food is not so good. They don't buy quality meats and things like that. The activities are wonderful, and I enjoy doing creative writing. We're currently doing a massive re-organizing and finalizing things here right now.

I live here and absolutely love it. Moving to Westminster Canterbury is the best decision I ever made. I never dreamed that retirement communities could be like this. I feel like I'm on a cruise ship that never leaves the dock.

It is lovely at Westminster, but it’s a different situation; it’s a CCRC. We live in the apartment here, but at the moment we don’t need any care. There staff is excellent and hardworking, I love the staff work ethic, friendly and they’re great. They bring the symphony in, lectures, they have dances, individual programs for athletics like cooking, and they have exercise facility, two swimming pools, and they have picnics outside. The food is fine and adequate; it’s a cafeteria type situation, but they do have a formal room. They have very special dinner program on the weekends; they have a variety, and the rooms are fine.

The staff at West Minister is perfect. The place has a swimming pool and two restaurants, and one of them is big. It's very pleasant and offers a lot especially for people who want to be on the beach. You can have your own apartment according to what you choose, which can be a one-bedroom or two bedroom, and whether you want to look out the waters or not. They even have hairdressers that come in twice a week.

I went with my friend a few times to pay a visit to her grandmother. From what i have seen the facility was kept very clean, and the workers seemed like they cared about the residents. It is a very comfortable place to be. My friend's grandmother room was set up so that she can feel at home as much as possible. The outside of the facility had a nice garden, and sitting area. The grass, and bushes were kept cut, and trimmed. This facility is very spacious. I never heard my friend's grandmother complain about any mistreatment from the nurse's, or the aids at the facility, nor have I noticed anything that showed a sign of neglect. There was an odor that was in the hallways each time I went to visit, but I never could figure out were it came from, because like I said to me it was a pretty clean place.

When I first went to visit my friend Beverley at Wesminster Canterbury, I was immediately blown away by how wonderful the community was. The facility was bright, clean, and new, and the staff was warm and friendly. I didn't run into a single staff member who was grumpy or who wasn't happy to see the residents. I also had the opportunity to sample the food, which was delicious. Westminster Canterbury is located on a very nice stretch of beach and there are stairs in the back, making it easy for the residents to take walks on the beach whenever they please. Many of the rooms of the residents look out over the beach which is a great view. There are are a number of great facilities in the complex, including a library and a gift shop. There are also concerts being played regularly at the grand piano in the lobby. There's a bank inside the complex for the convenience of the residents. I would be very pleased to have a relative stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to put them here because I know that this is a great community full of friendly people and a great assortment of amenities. The only red flag that I have is that there is a lack of minorities in residents. I don't think I've ever seen a black or Asian resident there and I don't know if this is due to coincidence or due to them not being open to minorities? But that would make this place undesirable for minorities or for those who want some diversity in the residents they're living with.
