My father moved into Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia. It was a good placement for my dad based on the five facilities that I looked at. My dad has been taken care of. He's doing pretty good and improving. The people there have contacted me regularly and updated me on his status and his progress, so it was good communication. The facility is very nice, clean, well maintained, and well organized. My dad has a room to himself, a full shower, and all the amenities in his bedroom. He has a lift that allows him to get out of the bed and get into a wheelchair so he can move around the facility. He has a TV and telephone. They have a single occupancy or double occupancy. They have a barbershop, a laundry room, and a dining facility. They have physical therapy units where they can do physical therapy. They have a general area where they can go, meet, and talk to other folks.

Berger-Goldrich Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center at Beth Sholom Village (Formerly Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia) was so nice. It's the kind of place where I would be OK with my dad hanging out full time because the furniture and everything that they have there was nice, except that they had no opening at the time of our visit. Everything looked clean and they looked like they had enough staff. Every time I turned around, there was somebody that was there. I'm sure there are shortages everywhere, they probably even got that, but during my tour, they had staff that I could see and talk to. I liked that. They have a place for church services too. Then they had a little birdcage with actual birds that they take care of, which was very cute, and then they had a little cafe where they get snacks and extra stuff that they can pay for. They have areas where they show paintings and stuff that was so nicely decorated, and they have a separate area that's gated off for people at the nursing home versus the memory care people. They toured me to the nursing home and memory care. There's only a glass area with a door that locks and separates the memory care versus the rest of the nursing home area. So, if my dad needs memory care in the future and wants to move from one area to another, he will still have the ability to go outdoors, which was nice. They also had a little area where they could watch TV and stuff like that and where everybody could hang out together. Everybody seemed friendly and everybody introduced themselves. I think Beth Sholom Village was one of the nicest places I visited.

Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia is nice but more expensive, and the rooms are smaller, and I didn't like that. It's high-end compared to other places I visited. When you walk in the door, it's impressive, but the rooms aren't as good. The lady who showed me around was very helpful, but she couldn't answer some of the questions I asked. The place was spotless inside.

Beth Sholom Home Of Eastern Virginia is the best nursing home in the area. My relative has been living there for several weeks now. They have skilled nursing care for rehab, long-term care and also memory care. They have a supportive staff and excellent service. According to my relative the food is good, and it's the cleanest community you'd find anywhere. She's getting physical rehab although she's a long-term care patient, they're helping her with her physical therapy which is available on site there. They have activities for the residents all day long. They're doing about a $5 million renovation on the place, so it's going to be even better after that. They're changing all the bathrooms so everyone will have their own private shower off of their rooms. Previously, they had a sink and toilet, and the shower room down the hall. Now every room is going to have a shower attached to it. So it's going to be a major upgrading, and they're also upgrading other aspects of the place. It's a big renovation they're doing.

My dad was at Beth Sholom, and we were very pleased with them. The rehab had a really nice workout room. He enjoyed the staff, who were caring and kind to him. Overall, the care that he got and the rapport were very good. He was very happy there. It was a convenient place to be.

My grandmother was in the "skilled" Alzheimer's unit for only 6 months, right from the beginning they labeled her as a "problem patient," as she has anger issues due to worsening Alzheimer's. She would refuse and/or hide her medications causing her behavior to worsen then get excuses from the staff saying they "can't force her to take medication." Sorry, if the patient is prescribed medication from a doctor for their health and wellbeing then they need to take it. This nursing home only wants compliant or severely incapacitated Alzheimer's patients and not one with any difficulties. Then, surprise, once she was out of private pay funds and switched to Medicaid she happened to have an "incident" and was kicked out and sent to the local hospital. Now she is being transferred to another nursing home farther from family. Thanks for taking my grandma's money Beth Sholom.

This facility is heavily financed by the local Jewish community. We are not Jewish but we were very impressed with the homey feel of the facility. It was modern and had a beauty salon, great menu and all of the rooms were private. The rooms were large. They had a gift shop and had a high nurse to patient ratio. It was very clean and they had an assisted living facility that was attached to their rehab facility. My mother was transported there after her knee replacement. She had fantastic care and it was quiet and the nurse's were very attentive. I was able to stay with her for two nights when we had a local hurricane come through. They did not charge me for staying there and did not even charge us for my meals. Her linens were changed every day and if she called one of them they were there within one minute. They had a gift shop for their guest. They had a bird atrium and a chapel on the premises. After my mother left and came home they called to follow up on her.

On the long term care hall patients are put in chairs and just left in the main sitting area for long periods of time. On some days it resembles One Flew Over The CooCoo's Nest instead of a loving place for your loved one! Very very SAD!
