Richfield seems great. We went around for two different ones before I chose this place. The staff was very friendly. They have two little areas; one is a dining room, and one is a café type area. You could order from the menu. You can either have it or have it in the dining room. I like that the rehab center is away from the nursing home area, and each room is private. You don’t have people wandering into your room.

As a resident for more than 2 years, I would have given Richfield Living 4.5 stars, and 5 for the food, until it was acquired by Friendship. Since then all staff has been slashed to the bone, and what staff there is is aloof or invisible. Former events and amenities have been stopped, and the food has gotten terrible. There is no chef, and the meals are unappetizing and made mostly from frozen foods or mixes and not well prepared. They are similar to what you'd get in a school lunchroom. At my age, I'm now doing most of my own cooking, and that's not what I expected when I moved here. The food used to be delectable and well-prepared by actual chefs, from fresh foods. Most of the socializing is done at meals, so if you're not going to meals, you're missing your friends. No allowance is made for dietary needs: diabetic, low-salt, gluten sensitivity. The answer is "This is Independent Living." There is no community gathering room, no library (except in another building), no craft room, and the residents generate all the games and activities. We are always told, "This is Independent Living." So why do they think we're here? Because for one reason or another we are not physically able to live in our house or apartment anymore, and need what the traditional independent Living retirement community provides. I have lived in another community in another state and know what a true Independent Living facility should and does provide its residents. Friendship has never done this before, and has no idea. Suggestions and questions fall on deaf ears. I will say, though, that the apartments are beautiful. I'd move to another community if I were a bit younger and had family to help me, but I don't. This has been such a disappointment.

The facility has a nice cover, but under the facade their is a corporation that does really care for its residents. My mother was in rehab there and released from care. Personally knowing she was not physically ready to be released, we asked to meet with her medical team. We wanted to review her condition with all caregivers present and consulting in real time. At the designated meeting time a team of business managers joined us, not the medical professionals we had asked to consult. They were cold, threatening, and uncaring to our request and concerns. They released my mother and she died from the lack of care they should have provided.

Richfield is a pretty package. Looks great on the outside, but patient and family care reveals an ugly gift. When confronted with questions and concerns, medical staff is sidelined and cooperate management circle to avoid providing care that is needed, but costly or time consuming for the company. Avoid at all cost.

When we first arrived, my mother and family were treated well. The room was clean and staff kind. Things did not go well when we asked to see the health care workers to review a discharge order. Instead of setting a meeting with the medical providers, a room of administrators showed up and circled their wagons, providing no useful information or alternatives. My mother was not ready for dismissal, but had to leave rehab. She died shortly after going home. Ultimately, the care was about the company, not the patient.

We have been in a couple of the apartments in Richfield, but it would be a year before we could move in. It's beautiful. If you have to go to assisted living or into a nursing home, they have great facilities. The staff was great. Everybody there was great. There are different levels of living apartments. They have t'ai chi, which I'm very much interested in, exercise groups, different things, and a chapel. The building is absolutely beautiful.

I visited Richfield Retirement Community. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. I thought their apartments were roomy enough for me, since I was on a wheelchair. They also took the residents shopping and on outings but I did not think they had transportation for my condition.

The center where my grandmother stayed was terrific. The facilities were very clean and the staff was approachable and caring. The center also did a good job of scheduling outings and activities for the residents such as shopping trips or bringing in speakers or instructors. The center was adequately staffed and the residents were well cared for.

Richfield retirement is truly a horrible place. My aunt was place in Friendship after her husband passed away. Upon arrival she was healthy, vivacious and entirely self sufficient. A few months into her stay she tripped over her roommates walker in the middle of the night and fell and broke her hip. She lay in the floor for seven hours before a nursing assistant came in and found her. By that time she had passed out from the pain. Because of the fall and the time she spent on the floor; she passed away in a matter of weeks. If the staff of Richfield had been more competent and attentive, she would have been found and cared for in a timely manner.
