After visiting multiple assisted living communities in the greater Richmond area, my sweet 92-year old mother chose Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe. The cozy one bedroom plus den, 1.5 bathroom bright and sunny apartment is the perfect size for my mom. The bedroom easily accommodates a double bed and two nightstands, a large triple dresser and a few lovely accessories. The ample closet and storage space includes a 6 foot reach-in and a large walk-in closet in the bedroom, a 6 foot reach-in closet in the den, and a large utility closet in the front entry way. In addition, there is a laundry closet that accommodates an "all in one" washer/dryer with 9 inches of space remaining for a laundry supply cart. Each floor has two "floor captains" responsible for officially welcoming new residents and representing resident interests at resident council meetings. My mother's two floor captains welcomed her with a lovely plant and provided their contact information. Both welcomed her to sit with them at meals. The friendly and responsive staff have welcomed and oriented my mother to her new surroundings. Her questions have been quickly answered and her requests for assistance honored. The residents enjoy a variety of programs led by an activities director. In addition, meal times are lovely social times that foster friendships among the residents. We are pleased with my mother's choice and highly recommend this assisted living community.

Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe was the preferred choice. Their food was excellent. The dining room experience was a little chaotic, with people coming and going. The service was attentive, so it was good. It's a large place with multiple stories. Each room has a balcony. The challenge was that the elevators were dark, and there was not a lot of bright lighting. They can be confusing because some of the elevators have doors on either side. My mother is blind, and would not be able to operate them. My father was uncomfortable because it was so dark. The salesperson was excellent. The person who led the tour was also excellent. The dining staff was very attentive. The residents were engaging and came up to my parents and talked. The director of activities saw us and met with us and was very enthusiastic. I think they realized that my mother couldn't see well and had profound hearing loss, so they were able to engage her without being rude.

My dad is currently at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe for 5 years now. The thing that attracted us to this place was that it basically was like an apartment. It had two bedrooms and each had its own bathroom. It had a living area, a balcony, and a fully equipped kitchen. It was a very nice accommodation. It was like being in your own house as opposed to being in just a nursing home-type room. It has a nice layout. The pricing was comparable. The other thing that was nice about this place was it had a big dining area. When I was there with my dad when he first moved in, it was like being on a cruise ship. It's pretty nice, and it was a bit more open. They always have something going on. They have a bridge club, a movie theater, and tours and stuff. The staff members have been very helpful. We had an issue with my dad trying to heat up a plastic coffee pot on the stove. We turned the stove off, and they were able to do that. They did an outstanding job during COVID and in keeping everybody safe. They had to quarantine him, but they took good care of him. We could FaceTime and do those kinds of things. I feel very good about the staff there. One other important feature was that they have a memory care facility. If his memory gets worse, he can stay there; they can provide additional care.

We went to Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe. That was a wonderful experience. The only thing that we didn't like is where my father would be placed if we chose that one would be on the second floor. I think it's four story. It's more of a hospital setting then. I get all of that. I just don't think my father would be happy in a place that reminds you more of a hospital than it does home. It was almost like an apartment, a high-rise apartment setting when you looked at it from the outside. But when you go into the building and go up to the floors, its similar to a hospital setting. Now, on the bottom floor, everything was beautiful, everything was clean, and the people were amazing. I mean, I would give it a five-star, but that's not what I'm looking for my father. The staff was amazing, She was amazing. I got to meet everybody there. They were friendly and wonderful. She knew people that were coming in and out. It was a pet-friendly facility. You can bring your pets in to visit residents. And there were some dogs in there. It was nice, they didn't live there, but their family members were bringing their pets in to see their loved ones, which I thought was amazing. It was very homey.

I went to look at 4 or 5 facilities and the one that fits our needs the most is the Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe in Richmond. It's assisted living and has 2 bedrooms. There was a lot of room for the dollar spent and it was the only one that had 2 bedrooms for assisted living. It also had the most space of all that I've looked at. It had an activity room where I could do my landscape painting and also a small exercise area that I could use to maintain some level of fitness. There are ones out there that are nicer but they cost so very much. Sunrise Villa offers the most for the money. You also get 3 meals a day, it's included in the cost. They have a chef on duty and a fully equipped kitchen. They are one of the few that has a fully equipped kitchen and not just a microwave.

Staff is very kind, caring and knowledgeable. Feels like a real community where you see people you know and say hello. Newly renovated memory care looks lovely.

This community has been very responsive to my mom's needs. She has been there for two months. The place is very nice, and my mother has a very lovely apartment with a balcony. The nurse practitioner who takes care of her is just fabulous. The residents are enjoying the movies and the little bistro, and they have plenty of activities which are well posted throughout the building. I've been very pleased. They have an exercise room, a salon, and an excellent physical therapist. They've been outstanding.

It was a very nice facility, but it's only once a month that they had apartments available. If I can get my parents down here, it definitely would be one that I would take them to look at. The rooms certainly were very nice, and it looked like a very large facility. It seemed secure.

I went here. I liked this place; however, the other ones were smaller and a little homier than this place. It was big, and it was more like an apartment complex. The apartments were very nice and adequate. The dining area was very nice, and it looked very homey. The staff who was with me was very friendly and very open with explaining the facility and with any questions that I had. I was impressed with this place. I liked it, but the location was my problem. It was too far.

My mother was here for two months. They're excellent. I would highly recommend them. The staff was excellent, excellent, excellent. Her room was gorgeous. It was clean and pretty. It was a beautifully designed room. One thing I really liked most was their team. They really did bend over backwards. However, one negative about them was that their food wasn't very good. The wait staff and the staff there were amazing, but we did not think the food was very good. They could improve on the quality of their food.

My mother is currently in this community. She has been there for two years. It is close to where my mother had been living, and she knew some people that were moving there, so we went toward it. It is nice. It is also a bigger facility. My mother has a 2-bedroom there. It is great. Her's has a living room, two bedrooms, and one and a half bathrooms. The staff is very, very nice and very attentive. I think the food is fine, but my mother complains about it all the time. However, she is an ex-Home Ed teacher, and cooking was part of her job.

My mom and dad had already been in this community for three years but my dad passed away. Since my mom couldn't be on her own, we just moved her down the hall into their memory care ward. It was an easy move. The staff, as far as I know, they're focused on what Mom needs. Regarding activities, they have outings, bingo, crafts, church, movies, and exercise. I can also go there whenever I want to go because it is close to my house. What they could improve on though is their meals; they're just not everyday food that elderly people would like.
