My loved one is at Charter Senior Living of Newport News. They're good, but there was supposed to be someone to do certain services for her, and those services have not been done. They said they were going to have someone come in and cut their nails, do their toenails and stuff and that hasn't happened at all since we've been there. So, we've had to take her to a podiatrist or a nail area outside the facility to get her nails cut. They also said they would provide transportation to and from doctor's appointments, but they have not been able to do that either. We had to pick her up and take her to her doctor's appointments and things like that. They told us when we first went in there, that the price would stay the same for a couple of years and they switched. The price went up within the six months that we were there. She started in June and then on the 1st of January, the prices went way up high. The staff is very nice and very friendly, though. We are pleased with them. The food is very good. It's an older building, but they keep it clean as best as they can. There's been water leaking and the maintenance gets it done. They do the best they can in keeping it upgraded, but it's not a five-star hotel type thing. It's not a more up-to-date building, but it's nice. Those who can go, are taken out to lunch. They have a lot of TV exercises and they watch things on TV that they interact with, having them do things. They have arts and crafts and quite a bit of activity, but she is unable to engage in a lot of stuff. It's a little overwhelming for our income and budget but it's still good because all the other places that were referred to me and I've checked into were even higher than what she's paying. So with this being the situation, they're good on the value.

Our tour at Charter Senior Living of Newport News was a good experience, with the people showing us around and talking to us. My husband and I toured their assisted living. The staff who accommodated us was excellent. They are probably the most reasonably priced, too, but I don't think we would choose that because it looked a little institutional. The others we have seen were more homey. The rooms we saw were studios and 1-bedroom ones. The dining room was tiny, and we wondered how they served all the people there.

I was impressed with Charter Senior Living of Newport News but only talked to one person. She was very helpful. She answered all of my questions, was very accommodating, and very much wanted me to move my husband there. The facility was very clean. Everybody was very friendly. The residents were clean. They were all together and participating in activities along with the staff.

My mom got assessed by Charter but they declined her. The Rehab facility that my mom was at had to told me. Called to see why but nobody called me back. Was told that I would get the deposit back if she could not go to Charter. That was said with my Aunt and I touring the facility.

We're very pleased with Charter Senior Living of Newport News, and if we can swing it, we'll probably give it a try and get my mother-in-law in there. It was very lovely and clean. The people were very friendly. Even the people that lived there were very friendly, they were trying to get us in there. It was very nice. The 1-room was very nice and laid out to a courtyard. It's a little big for my mother-in-law, but the smaller one is still very nice. They have large bathrooms and just enough room for what she needed. Everything looks great. They had lots of things, and the dining room's very nice and clean. We're highly impressed.

I went to Charter Senior Living of Newport News. It looked clean, the staff was friendly, and they greet you. They have daily activities. I think they had bingo and some word games. I saw an apartment, and you have to bring your own furniture. They have a salon.

I went here and was impressed that the marketing representative seemed to be up on some of the new things that were happening in the community. They have things for seniors like watching TV and open dining. They didn't have regimented mealtimes, which was good. I looked at both assisted living and memory care. They have one staff for physical therapy, and that's really good. The staff member took me on a tour of unoccupied rooms. The memory care was different in terms of the flooring because of the type of accidents (possibly from the residents). The safety within the rooms seemed really good.

Everything is nice here. I don't have any complaints right now. The place is clean, big, and a newer building. They have physical therapy, beauty salon, a gym, a coffee café, TV room, family rooms that you can reserve for parties, bingo, birthday parties, and field trips. They have snacks anytime they want them, along with the three meals. They serve good food, and the dining room is a nice size. They have probably about 12 to 15 tables in there, so it's not crowded. Whenever my family goes up there, they feel really good about where Mom is.

We're extremely satisfied with them. The very friendly and competent staff is very attentive to the needs of the residents, and we're extremely pleased. They offer any number of activities, they have daily activities of various types, the food is outstanding, and I don't think we could have picked a better place for my mother-in-law.

It is fine. My mother doesn’t like it, but they’re really not a bad facility. It is clean, but they could do a little better cleaning on the rooms. Basically, overall, I like the place. There’s a nice courtyard with activities. The only thing is that the nurses are really busy there. I don’t think the food is too bad. It’s your typical institutionalized food. The soups are outstanding, but some of the food was a little bland.

I like the fact that they have somebody at the front desk checking people in and out, monitoring who comes in and out as well as helping people find the residents they are looking for, or connect to the people they need to connect with. They have a more welcoming atmosphere. On Sundays, they have different church services for different religions that people can attend. They have a shuttle service that takes the residents shopping. The downside of this facility is that the traffic tends to get heavy.

It was very nice and we liked it. It was very clean. But it had more medical assistance than what she needed.

I checked out here for my mother before she passed away. The facility was so open and clean and bright. The room that I got to see was a one-bedroom unit and it was spacious. I was also impressed by the staff. They're very knowledgeable, friendly and very outgoing. They're very sweet people. Also the food served there was very elegant. They had a very nice activity program. The day that I was there, they were going to a concert, which I thought was very nice.

It was good, but they were going to put her in locked units. Even with her dementia, she was very lucid and it would do her in not to communicate with other people. She still had some of her marbles and was very intelligent and intellectual. For her not to be able to socialize would've been horrible. One drawback for us is that they had multiple floors with an elevator. Our preference would be to have everything for her all on one floor.

I have visited this facility on many occasions to visit my uncle who has been a resident there for the past five or six years. The facility is very clean, tastefully decorated, and always kept at a comfortable temperature. The rooms are nicely appointed; the residents are allowed to have many of their personal decorative items in their rooms. The rooms on the first floor open onto a very pleasant courtyard/garden area. This facility offers many activities for the residents to enjoy, such as movies, bingo and other events during holidays. The meals, according to my uncle, are not like my aunt's cooking, but he enjoys the scheduled meals and goes to the cafeteria on his own. On every visit, I encountered nothing but courteous and helpful staff. My uncle has never complained about the facility, the staff, or how well he is being taken care of. I would recommend this facility for the care of a family member.
