Heritage Green is a very welcoming facility with professional and loving care givers. My mom was a resident in the memory care unit for only 3 weeks but she was treated as if she'd been there a long time, like family. We especially liked my mom's spacious room that had a small kitchen area and plenty of storage space. The entire memory care area was well secured but there was an outside area where my mom could get some fresh air and be fully supervised. She had an individual therapy plan to help her with daily routines and socialization. We were so happy that my mom was welcomed with open arms to Heritage Green.

Heritage Green Hanover is an older facility that's turning 25 this year. It does not offer independent care. It offers memory care and assisted living, so you get more of a nursing home feel. The rooms were very small. Some of the furniture had a worn look. But the tour was very nice. The staff answered all our questions and all that. We didn't take up on that offer because it was like half an hour from our home. It's all on one level. They had pleasant grounds.

I brought my mom to Heritage Green after having had her at another place nearby. The difference is like night and day! I feel so comfortable coming into Heritage Green, like it is a community center. Everyone is always so welcoming, the staff is in the front and ready to talk at anytime and encourages communication about any worry. In just a short time my mom has blossomed and regained her dignity and independence. The staff meets the residents at their ability and works to help them to keep it as well as exceed it. Blurring the lines between memory care and assisted living, not pigeon holing people because it’s easier is the way it is at Heritage Green. Even the residents help and look out for each other. Just go by and see how wonderful this place is!

I toured the community recently for my parents and it was a great experience! The staff was super friendly and the community felt like you were already at home. Definitely will keep in mind when they are ready to make the move!

After bad experiences with 2 other local memory care units, I am thrilled to have found Heritage Green at Hanover. I am so impressed with the management & staff. They are genuinely nice, caring and helpful. They respond almost immediately to any question or concern. Best of all, my mother made a very smooth transition to the facility with their help. The facility is CLEAN and has a nice layout with a common area where residents gather and have activities. The dining area is very homey. There is the option to go out to a courtyard safely. Please take a tour and see for yourself!

My sister-in-law's father moved to Heritage Green Hanover. It's a very nice place. They're clean. The nurses take care of their patients. They keep up with them. They have a lot of patients there for a few people that they have on each shift. They have a lot of patients they deal with, and sometimes they're short on staff, but they still do what they need to do. I think they have an outdoor space. It's a nice facility. It was closer to their house where my sister-in-law could get there if she needed to.

My wife stayed at Heritage Green of Hanover for three weeks. They didn't have enough help there. They were there just for a job. They weren't interested in taking care of people. The people were going into somebody else's room and getting into their beds. They didn't have enough people on duty to watch. They didn't seem to care about what the residents did, as long as they didn't have to do anything. The food wasn't bad. It was okay. I had to send somebody over to bathe and wash my wife. They're supposed to do it once or twice a week, but they don't. They told me that it was an extra $100 a month to furnish her with disposable diapers, so I took a pack of 32 diapers, and then the next day, they were gone.

My mother moved to Heritage Green of Hanover. It's a nice facility and I like how the shared rooms are set up. We have had some issues with the transition, making sure they're getting the right diet and things for my mother, because she has to have soft, palatable food, and that has not consistently happened. So we've been dealing with that. They've been quick to help, and the people there have been great, it's just we've been working through that kind of kink, and that was my only complaint. When you walk in there's a restroom and a little kitchenette area, then there are two rooms straight ahead. There are no doors, but two separate spaces and a wall in between. So it feels like you have your room and some privacy.

What I liked best about Heritage Green was that it was small and it did not feel like it was an assisted living facility. What I liked the least was the cost. It was way over our budget. There was a cafe, and looks like they have a good activities director.

What I liked best about the Heritage Green of Hanover was the fact that it was a very small community and it was located in a neighborhood. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cleanliness was good. I did have a coffee in the break area. It was very clean with a selection of beverages. I liked the fact that it was just one story. It had a nice patio and an outside area to sit. The people there were friendly. I just liked the area that it was in.

My mother moved into Heritage Green of Hanover. Everybody there seems to be nice and attentive. I don't have any bad things to say about them. But at the same time, it's hard to speak highly of it right now. The staff is good. My mom is sharing a room with another lady, but as far as the room itself, it's fine. They do have private rooms, but the only thing they had available at the time was a shared room. Mom is in one big room, and it has a refrigerator and each one has her own closet, but they share a bathroom. They have quite a few activities. They play different games and they have arts and crafts. Once a week, they have somebody that comes in and plays music for all of them.

My mom had lived independently with my dad until his death. It was a big adjustment in the beginning. Overall she is very happy with all of the activities and the social aspect of it. It is a relatively small community so that everyone knows each other. They answer all of our questions and respond promptly if there is a problem.

I went to Heritage Green of Hanover. It's an assisted living home, and it is immaculate. I have never seen anything so nice. It's beautiful. It's very welcoming. All the residents seem very happy. It was awesome. Like, if there was a way I could live there, I would find a way. The staff is very friendly, very caring, very personal, and very knowledgeable as well. They serve the food restaurant style. They have pleated tablecloths, candlelit, and placemats. This is a beautiful setup. And they have options to choose, between breakfast, lunch, and dinner, multiple options, not just one or two. Their menu sounded pleasant. I couldn't tell you what the food was like, though. But they did have little bars throughout the facility with coffee machines, little refrigerators full of snacks, and baskets with, grab snacks and things like that. They have food available throughout the day. Their facilities are very, very clean, and spacious. They have lots of activities. They even have banquet rooms that you could book to celebrate birthday parties with your family member there at no charge. They have a hair salon in there, they do happy hour Fridays, and they do multiple events throughout the week with a calendar. They have people come in and do live concerts for them, sewing classes, and all kinds of different things. It was extraordinary how they treated their residents.

I like the Heritage Green of Hanover. The place was nice. It was a smaller facility, which was also nice. It was rather pricey, and that was our only issue. The facility was well cared for. It was a convenient location for my mom to be able to stay close to her friends and her church. The rooms were a nice size. They had all the basic services that everybody else had. They had housekeeping, laundry service, and a shuttle that would take you to places and pick you up. The staff did an excellent job. She was professional, on time, courteous, and took her time with us. We were there for about an hour, and she was very nice.

I am power of attorney for both my mother and her brother---they are both residents of Heritage Green Assisted Living---and we are very pleased with the care and atmosphere!! This may very well be one of the best facilities in Virginia.

I had to make the difficult decision to move my husband into assisted living, and I am SO thankful to have found Heritage Green. The staff are amazing - kind, caring, friendly, and accessible. My husband constantly comments on how nice everyone is to him, and how they check on him frequently when they know he's not feeling well. The nursing staff is excellent - they are managing his medications perfectly, and staying on top of his medical issues. The private studio room is perfect for him, and has enough space for a loveseat and recliner, so our family can visit and feel comfortable. They offer many different activities and outings, and the residents I've met seem happy and engaged with each other and the staff. He's a very picky eater, but he's pleased with most of the food, not 100% but happy with the majority of the meals, and the variety and choices offered. I think one reason this place works so well is its small size - it's intimate and allows everyone to know each other. I am so very thankful to have him somewhere safe, where I know he's being looked after when I can't be with him.

Selecting an assisted living for a loved one is a huge decision! In 2006, I was preparing our younger son for college. We took him to Blacksburg and picked up my parents for their move into Heritage Green. Today my “almost” 100-year-old Dad is still a HG resident. And I would say 75 percent of the staff team members are still there and considered “like family” to my Dad. That says a lot!! I highly recommend the facility for your loved one.

I liked Heritage Green of Hanover. The lady who took us on a tour was very informative, she gave us a nice tour but my only drawback with that was I didn't see any diversity there. Most of them were out because it was near dinnertime, so we could see most of the residents and there was no diversity, except with the CNAs. The facility itself was nice and I like the fact that it was small and more personable. We saw a couple of the residents' rooms, and because they were all full, we had to stand out in the hall and not go in. The facility was clean and smelled fresh. They were getting ready for dinner and they had the tables set nicely for the residents, it was nice.

We have chosen Heritage Green of Hanover for my mom. It was very clean, and the staff was wonderful. We saw that they had activities that were going on. The rooms were nice, spacious, and very clean. There was a lot of interaction going on with the people that live there. They have a little coffee place upfront and a little activity center, so that was nice. They had a lady who was doing a planting activity with them that day.

We went to Heritage Green of Hanover because I was looking for a place for respite for my husband. The place looked good. The hallways were wide. They had a lot of sitting areas for seniors and things like that. They had activities for seniors. The place looked clean. They have a lawn where seniors can go sit outside. It's a nice place. I was just with the admissions coordinator, and the staff who was there seemed friendly. While I walked around, we kind of greeted each other. I've heard a lot of good things about them from different people in my church. We went to the memory care area.

My mother moved into Heritage Green of Hanover, and it looked like a very neat place. They seem to be well organized, and they seem to be well staffed. The staff seems to be very caring and observant to the conditions of their clients. I have not tried the food, but what I have seen is that they serve to the clients what seems to be very sufficient and nutritious. They actually have some entertainment like sing-alongs. They seem to be able to engage the clients on a daily basis. The rooms are very clean, and they are sufficient with facilities like bathrooms. They seem to be well maintained, and that was a key thing for us.

My father moved into memory care at Heritage Green of Hanover. I like everything about it. It's clean, and the employees there are just as friendly and nice as they can be. I have no complaints whatsoever. I haven't had a lot to do with the facility itself, because since he's on hospice, he hasn't taken his meals with the rest of the residents, nor is he a part of anything there. I can speak for the administration I've dealt with and the nursing staff. It's about fifteen minutes from my house; it's where it needs to be for me. It's in a rural area; it's not a city type of place. It's laid out for their purposes, where they have the memory care on one side and the assisted living on the other. There's no companionship between the two. I've been to the facility, and I went into his room. The rooms are very nice and spacious. The one he has is for two people, but they don't have just one in there. We can bring furniture or whatever we need to bring to make him comfortable. He's had a stroke so he can't verbalize, but his mind is fine. So they put him in memory care because it's quiet.

The Heritage Green Senior living is close to where me and my daughter live and they seem to be pretty good. They're doing what they need to do, so we're kinda OK with that. The staff members have been great so far. We got her a private room; it's pretty nice. She broke her hip, so she's not able to walk right now, so she's not able to do any activities at the moment. Food seems to be great. She can only eat so much, but she's doing OK. They really work at this one. They've been calling and talking to my daughter and saying like everything's OK. We're getting more from what we're paying for.

I went to Heritage Green of Hanover. My experience was fine, the lady was very nice, she took us all over the facility, she was very accommodating, and she continues to contact me periodically with special programs that they have going on, but it's way out of the price range that my father could afford. The facility is nice, it looks like they take good care of the people, and I was impressed with it. The rooms were more like studios, they're really small, and most have two people in them. The day I was there, they had a singer in, and they were all out in their common area listening to a singer. I did see the dining area, and a common area room that they have.

We looked for an assisted living facility for our Mom, who needed some extra care now that she is in her 90's. Found Heritage Green in Mechanicsville, and from the very first meeting knew this would be the perfect place. Everyone and I mean everyone has been so nice, so caring and helpful not just to our Mom, but to every resident there. She has a cute shared room, that we were able to decorate like she wants. They have many activities games, puzzles, sing alongs, and a favorite happy hour on Fridays, and outings for them. The facility is beautiful, and so clean, and they have been very careful with the Covid-19 outbreak in protecting the residents. The food is delicious, and I like how you can have lunch with your family member. I like that it is not one of those huge places, this is a smaller facility and they can spend more time with each resident, and even have on site PT and OT. Well worth the time to check out Heritage Green, if you are in need of assisted living for your loved one, I don't think you can find a better one in the area.

Dad has been living at Heritage Gren since August of 2019. He moved here from rehab having to use a wheelchair and the therapists had him back on his feet with his walker within the month! All of hte staff are wonderful - everyone is so friendly and caring. During this health crisis HG has done a great job keeping the residents safe and providing ways for families to stay in touch, even though we cannot visit in person. I am very grateful to everyone at Heritage Green and highly recommend this facility.

My parents lived at HG for a little over a year and the staff there took very good care of them. While my dad was reticent at first (they went because of my mom's decline in health), he quickly became a huge fan. They worked to accommodate their individual needs and preferences. The therapists are awesome, and the staff makes you feel like you've left your loved ones with others in your family. There is a lot of love and care in the building. I recommend HG very highly.

My parents live at Heritage Green right now. We visited a number or places before we settled there. They are not watched over by paid staff - they are CARED for by loving people who enjoy and respect them. There is always something going on - I got to watch an interesting presentation about the history of rock and roll with Mama - really fun! I love the indoor birds!

I visited Heritage Green Assisted Living. They were way too expensive, but they seemed to be very clean. I think that would be a good place to put my husband, but I can't afford it. There were no odors, the residents seemed content to be there, and the rooms were a good size. I talked to one person, she was good, she called me up, and even though I told her I couldn't afford it, she still offered to answer questions about pricing, so I thought that was really nice.

I visited Heritage Green of Hanover, but I didn't get to look in one of the rooms. It was a general tour, just walking around and seeing the recreation areas, but for some reason, the guy doing the tour didn't have a key to show me an actual room. The living atmosphere was very nice. They had entertainment going on. It seemed like a very pleasant atmosphere; I was impressed with it. The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable, but for some reason he can't locate the key. I really wanted to see what a room looks like inside because that would help me make a decision, so that was disappointing. The dining area looked clean, and it had a nice pleasant atmosphere. It was above OK. The community was very nice.

The staff at Heritage Green is amazing! After visiting a couple of nearby facilities, we quickly knew Heritage Green was "the one." Dad had Alzheimer's and needed 24-hour care. So we moved him (along with mom, to be by his side) into the Memory Care unit in August 2018. The staff treated dad with love, dignity, and respect while he was a resident for nearly 10 months. Many of the staff members became family to my parents, my sister, and me. If we ever have a question or concern, staff and/or administration is quick to respond by phone or email. While dad has since passed, mom is looking forward to moving to the Assisted Living unit at Heritage Green. There are numerous activities and outing to keep her busy and stimulated. I can't thank the staff enough for taking such wonderful care of my parents.

I feel very fortunate that my loved one lives at Heritage Green in memory care. He needs help with all aspects of daily living, and the staff provides this help patiently even though it can be challenging. I am especially happy when I visit and find him engaged in an activity with other residents and seemingly enjoying himself and talking and smiling. The memory care area is attractive with colorful murals of bucolic scenes that evoke a feeling of freedom and fresh air, and it has its own patio with rocking chairs, umbrella, flowers, and a path on which we often walk. Sometimes, when we visit, we sit in the commons area near reception and have a treat, such as hot chocolate or a pastry, and enjoy the bistro setting or the comfortable sofas near the fireplace.

Previously having two brothers-in-law who passed away and a sister currently at Heritage Green, I am so pleased with the care given. I rate it excellent. The staff is caring and compassionate. The food selection and quality is excellent. The activities are varied, interesting, and fun for the residents. The medical care seems to be professional, caring, and appropriate for the residents.

My mother is 90 and has been at Heritage Green for 10 months. Originally had her own room, but now is preparing to move into a suite with a new friend. The facility is in excellent condition and the staff are uniformly cheerful, knowledgeable, understanding, energetic and honest. There are daily, interesting, well attended activities and the food is plentiful and tasty. Could not be happier with the place!

I seem to have had a different experience than the other reviewers on here. My mother was a resident here for almost 2 years. The majority of the nursing staff was excellent. The activities director was superb. I mostly had problems with the management. I very rarely got a return phone call when I had a question or needed help for some reason. That is the reason I pulled her out and brought her home. Even now, after 2 mos., I have been trying to get her wheelchair back. I have called 5 times with no return calls. I even had the serial # and make and model of the wheelchair. Nothing from anyone there. Anyway, the rooms were fine, a little small for 2 people, but great for one person. The weekdays went well, but weekends were mostly quiet and the housekeeping was not good.. You have to hunt down washcloths, towels and toilet paper. The food was average, but palatable. I simply got too frustrated with the way that management constantly put you on the back burner.
Provider Response
Your experience is so atypical for Heritage Green! The Executive Director’s office is right inside the front door and she is famous for popping out of her chair to say “hello” to visitors and family members. It is incredibly unfortunate that that after both ‘excellent’ nursing care and ‘superb’ activities employees, you’ve had a negative experience with communication. Please reach out to the Executive Director ~ directly. I know that she will be eager to get this situation resolved.

My husband is a resident in the memory care unit. From the day I toured the facility I knew this was THE place- it was clean, all the staff were friendly and caring. I have not been disappointed. They have given him excellent compassionate care around the clock. They are always looking for ways to help him. What a blessing!
