We went to see Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg because we knew of some people that had been there. We probably will not plan to go there though because it's more of a medical facility than we need or want, at this point. We're looking for something that's independent living with assisted living. I think their facilities are very good. It's a compact area and that's nice, but it was something that was more like a hospital than my wife and I would want. They have everything from assisted living and all the way through. We did not actually have a chance to go into an apartment because they were full. We saw the assisted living, the advanced areas, and their various rooms for meetings or that type of thing. We also saw the restaurant, but we did not get to see any rooms. I thought the place was clean and well organized. I had nothing against it at all. The staff that we met, who was the lady in charge of the facility, was very good.

My grandparents began living at this facility several years ago. They originally bought into the place for the Independent living function when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. My grandmother still lives in the IL section; my grandfather moved to Assisted Living 18 months ago. The care was excellent. They provided activities on a daily basis, like movies, games and sometimes special concerts. They had a dining hall, or you could eat in your room. The nursing staff came around to check on him about once an hour, and they were always friendly and helpful. When his condition declined, he was moved to the Skilled Nursing part of the facility. It was still on the same property, so it was easy for my grandmother to get to. One of the CNA's there was able to take my grandfather off premises so he could be present at my engagement party and wedding. It was so nice to have such competent people working with him in his last days. I will never forget what they did for my family. Also, there is a pool, a beauty salon and a gift shop on the property. That makes it handy for my grandmother to get things done without having to go too far.

The people who run this facility are amazing! They provide such good care to the folks hat live there. My grandmother is a resident and she enjoys her stay very much. There are plenty of activities to do such as bridge, piano lessons, and horse dice racing. The food is great also, I personally prefer the fried chicken but there is also other stuff such as great hot chocolate and fish sticks. The rooms are very spacious and would be a great place for anyone person o live at. I would highly recommend this nursing home for any elder looking to relocate from their home.

Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, Virginia is a beautiful campus located in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to the Virginia Episcopal School and the historic Presbyterian Home. My grandmother enjoyed seven comfortable years here, and was well taken care of by the dedicated staff. She formed close relationships with several of the nursing staff and maintained contact with them even after she moved to a facility in another state to be closer to family. I highly recommend this assisted living facility for concerned family members seeking affordable and well-appointed care for their loved one.
