My husband came here for care after surgery. The therapists, nurses, house keeping staff are awesome; unfortunately, I can't say anything nice about the case managers. We were here for over a week before we saw a case manager....and she wasn't even ours, so she didn't know anything about our case. Worse yet, she came in and told us the plan the came up with without consulting us. Their plan would have created an absolute hardship on our family. Communication is very important for both patients and families....There was zero communication!

My husband was at Health South Rehab for a period of time on a rehab mission and it was a nice facility. One negative that I found was the complete and total lock down of the front doors, the exit and entrance, at a certain time. It made me very nervous to think if my evening visit was running long, I would get to the lobby the doors might be locked, so I’d have to find somebody to let you out. The facility was very nice. The rooms had adequate, reasonable space. The nursing staff would take him, in a wheelchair, to and from his room to physical therapy, for instance, but they would also have to take him to the dining room. The layout for me was troublesome because I have COPD and I’m on oxygen, so everywhere I go and whenever I go to visit him, I’m holding an oxygen tank. And it was a considerable distance between the patient’s room to the physical therapy department and even farther to the dining. Once I got there and sat down and rested for a few minutes, they had multiple, excellent choices for food, and a visitor could just pick and choose, too. My husband’s meals were already determined because of his diet needs, but I could go to the cafeteria and order and pay for my food. It was excellent.

HealthSouth has a good program. They require around three hours of therapy -- it's different times of therapy -- and, of course, they get the patients up in the morning and would like for them to go to the dining room to have their meals. Their visitors can go in there and they can eat a meal. They have a computer there where you can order the food and where you can go and eat with the patient. It is a good facility.
