Both of my parents have lived in assisted living at Commonwealth at Farnham for a little over a year. My brother and I are glad they are safe, have a 24 hour staff that is friendly, compassionate, responsive and competent. They love the staff and the well maintained facility. My mother was an excellent cook, my father appreciates good food and my mother appreciates someone else cooking the meals. But their primary reason for selecting this facility was the promise of Farm to Table meals. It has been more than disappointing to see my father loose over 20 pounds, due in large part to bad meals. They have lived most of their lives in the Northern Neck and know many of the local farmers and watermen. They know the fresh produce and seafood available locally. One would expect limited salt and fat in the food due to restricted diets. But there is a host of other spices and recipes that can be prepared in a healthy way that would taste great. I'm many cases, the three meals a day are the most important asset of living there, and this is where Commonwealth at Farnham falls seriously short. If the preparation of meals was greatly improved, the residents could actually brag about the food they are served. Wouldn't it be wonderful to honestly feature good meals and have a waiting list for new residents? I know I would feel better about my parent's being more satisfied with how their life savings is being spent. Right now, their only constant complaint is the food.

This place is in the middle of nowhere so if you want to get rid of your feeble parent, put them here! And the food stinks.

Commonwealth Assisted Living at Farnham is very homey. The people are very responsive to my mother’s needs, especially if I bring things up that I want included in her care. They are very eager to do that and not ignore me. They seem to have a lot of compassion, but they are probably not totally set up to take care of someone like my mom. They have a couple of residents who are bedridden, but they are more geared to people who can get out of bed and participate in activities. They are not quite as cognizant to the people who are in bed and making them social or active.

I moved into Commonwealth. I liked the villa that we're staying in. They serve 3 meals a day, but here in the villa we get 2 meals. We have laundry in the building, and we've got a washer and dryer. We have a barbershop.

Commonwealth Assisted Living at Farnham was very good. Unfortunately, I use a scooter because I am disabled, and the doorways of their living area weren’t big enough for me to fit through. Everything else and the people were very good.

I visited Farnham Manor (Commonwealth Assisted Living at Farnham). It was fairly close to where I lived. I liked that it was in a rural setting. It was very quiet. It was not at all busy, and there was no traffic. The thing that I was most attracted to was independent living that had nice apartments available, and they were all on the ground floor. They were clean and convenient. The staff was above average. I had three different occasions to eat there. It was always pleasant, and the food was good. It was home cooked meals. The staff was all congenial and country folks. Their cooking reflected that. They had sort of a game center, which was geared towards independent living people such as pool tables, bridge tables, and a workout/exercise room. The other entertainments were in the main facility. They do structured things for assisted living people, but for the independent living people, there was no structure entertainment for them. However, I thought they were a little bit less organized on the tour that they gave to me. They could have done a better job of organizing that.

This is a very close, loving and caring facility. Everything is clean. The nursing staff are very concerned and concientious about their residents and the medications being provided. The facility used to be a school many many years ago and whats so neat about it, is some of the residents actually attended school there as a child. The director of nursing has been there for many years and over sees the facilty. I can tell the residents are well cared for just by looking at them!
