The place probably needs a little face lift, but otherwise, NHC Healthcare is great. My mom has adjusted very well, and the staff is very good. She gets a room, and they also manage her medications. There is a doctor on staff that occasionally drops by to see her, and they also have activities planned on a daily basis; she takes advantage of all of this. The place is clean. She is happy. There's a beauty shop, and she gets her hair fixed once a week. They have a common area and a wide screen TV.

My mother was at NHC HealthCare, Bristol. The first time she was there was a really good experience, but the second time was not. She didn't seem to have the good care that she had the first time. They weren't as kind. They tend to line up the residents around the nurse's station and leave them there for hours. The food was horrible, and the place was not as clean as it needed to be. They need to update their facility a lot. I did have to tell them that she is a woman who does not want a man to help her with the bathroom duties. It took a while, but they did finally relent and agreed with me on that. I didn't think that all their nurses knew enough to be nurses because there were a couple of instances where their nursing care was substandard. The nurse assistants that I met were wonderful. There was no comparing them. Most of the staff was nice. They did change her frequently, so that's good. They made sure she stayed clean.

Don’t expect your family member to recover at this facility if they go there for rehab. My mother was in for rehab in December 2021 and did ok until nurse practitioner Melissa cut her diuretic and mom swelled and gained almost 20lb of fluid. Nursing Director Michelle tried to tell me that mom had eaten enough food to gain that much weight. They would not send her to a hospital without listing it as “against medical advice,” so I had to have her transferred to Asbury in Kingsport and then she had to go to the hospital in respiratory distress because of fluid overload. NHC also let her sugar drop to mid 50’s, 45, and 29 on 3 different occasions, and I was the one that discovered mom in a very dire medical emergency on two of those occasions. I don’t know what has happened to this facility since 2018, but it should be avoided by everyone who cares about their family. They will not look after your loved ones. I’ll give activities two stars because the therapists actually seem to attempt to do their jobs, but if you have special medical or dietary needs (diabetic and congestive heart failure), go somewhere else, please.

This facility is horrible! My dad was a patient here for around four months until he passed away. My mom is currently a patient and the staff for the most part are uncaring and sometimes right out rude to her. When she turns her light on for help, they take at least thirty minutes to come if they come at all. When she asks for a shower they say that they are working short and don't have time. The workers in charge of trying to get Medicare recently went in to her room and harassed her for money and threatened to evict her in 30 days. Please look for other options before placing your loved ones in this facility.

This facility is horrible!!! Avoid it at all costs. The care is terrible. Found my relative under a bed sheet covered in poop...allowed my family member to fall on numerous occasions....failed to correctly give medications on a regular basis...
