My dad moved into The Jefferson a few months ago. It's been great. It has lots of activities. So, he signed up for a lot of different clubs. He's connected with people and I feel it's been a huge improvement for him because he was living alone for 30 years. So, to now be with people is good for his mental health. He just seems a lot happier and he's more with it. I feel like he's sharper. So it's been great. My dad is in a one-bedroom, one-bath with a study, and it has a small balcony, and a lot of natural light. Each day when you look in the elevator, there's a full list of all the activities going on for the day. So they have things like swimming. They have a small swimming pool to do lap swimming or probably water aerobics. And then they have musicians who will come in and play. They have chair yoga. They bring in speakers to talk about things like I saw they had someone coming in to talk about a car-free diet. That means not driving so much. So, like how you could do urban design differently. They do trivia sometimes. They have a little pub that's in The Jefferson. So they have happy hour many nights. He's in a politics group. So they talk about politics once a week and he's in a theater group. So they do stage readings periodically. They have a schedule for the shuttles that will take you to the various grocery stores. And they also have a movie viewing room.

We like The Jefferson very much for its location. The Jefferson is located right in the Ballston section of Arlington. You can walk across the street and be at the Target. You could walk in any direction within half a block, and you'll be able to be at a restaurant. It has the best location for being able to get out and walk and be among people who are not seniors. It's nice to have that mix where you can walk out and be among people going to work, people on their lunch break, and so on. So, that's the high point of that. We had a meal there, and it was excellent. We like the facilities there also. They're a major contender. They're having a social this afternoon, too.

I toured The Jefferson. You have to buy into that, and it costs a little bit of money, but it was very pleasant. I've eaten there before. So, it was good. The apartment was small. I came in on the activities of the day, and they were very good. The staff was good. The people that are in the community, I find them more sophisticated. The food was decent. It was very good.

I went to look at The Jefferson. Everything was great. It was lovely. There were a lot of people who were engaged in group activities. It was clean. Everyone seemed very friendly. The apartments that we saw were nice. They have a gym, a fitness center, a pool, and a sauna. They have various clubs that meet several times a week. They have music, theater activities, and presentations. They have gaming rooms, puzzle rooms, restaurants, and bars. It was fairly complete. We only talked to one staff member, the director of sales. She was very friendly and helpful.

The Jefferson was in an excellent location. It's within walking distance of restaurants, a mall, and banks. You are able to be outside their little squares, where you can sit and relax. It was very nice. They are the best locations of them all. The people we interacted with were outstanding. We enjoyed it. We almost got invited to join one of the clubs there, even though we were just guests. We had a meal, and it was excellent. The only thing that causes concern is the complexity of getting an apartment. You have to purchase it as a real estate transaction. You have to renovate it if needed. You have to get all the appliances updated, repaired, or replaced. You have to pay the taxes and insurance. As soon as you bought the place, you started paying the monthly fee, even though you might not be physically in the apartment. And then, when you were to leave one way or another, you still had to pay the monthly fee until it was sold.

We live in The Jefferson. It's fine, the activities, the living arrangements, the food. The food is good. The location is very nice. They have a library, gym, and pool. The rooms are just fine. They've got exercise, entertainment, arts and crafts, and games. They can improve the food and food preparation.

The Jefferson doesn't tell you the cost upfront. The staff is very friendly, and it's a really nice place. I was not expecting them to say that we'll be paying $10,000 a month. They're very expensive, but they don't tell you that upfront. They discuss everything else, and then they get to the money. I would just like to be informed of the price before I sit there for an hour. The place was very clean; when I was there, no one was cleaning the floors or anything, but everyone was just really nice. The rooms were decent sized, but they're pretty small for what you pay. You don't really have a view of anything. The rooms are very small compared to how much they charge you. They have a gym, a small courtyard, and a library.

The Jefferson was gorgeous. The staff was fantastic. We visited it a couple of times, so we had more interactions with the staff. The person who was giving us the tour was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We also got to talk with other members of the staff who were very impressive. We were invited to a dinner and the food was delicious. We saw the swimming pool, some exercise classes, and briefings that were going on from visiting scholars. It's smaller than the other place, so there's not as much there, but we liked that because it seemed more personal. The food was excellent.

The Jefferson was very neat, clean, and airy. The location was where I was interested in living. It was a workable area. There were restaurants and grocery stores. There was a movie theater in the building. The apartment was just in the size that I wanted, and it had a terrace. It was just perfect. I liked it. It had a library and swimming quarters. It was just lovely.

I would not recommend the Jefferson rehab for your loved one. They are short staffed, redone time for a call button was as long as 45 minutes for my mom, and some of the staff is not properly trained. They don't want to hear your complaints or concerns either, but their PT dept is excellent.

The Jefferson is a lovely building. However, it requires you to pay for a lot of amenities which you may not need. They’re very expensive. They’ve got 3 meals a day, they have a gym, and they have activities.

I like The Jefferson very much and have signed a lease. I liked it because it was very clean and had a swimming pool. I visited it on the day they had an Easter egg hunt and had lots of families and children visiting, and everybody seemed so happy. That pretty much sold me on the place. What I’ve seen seemed to be OK and everybody seemed to be doing their job like it says in the booklet. I only saw two rooms: the one I chose, which is exactly what I wanted, and one that had an extra bedroom, which I did not like at all. It is just not what I wanted. The rooms were very clean, attractive, and had plenty of lights.

I like The Jefferson because of its central location. There were lots of businesses around, and it's near public transportation. They had one-bedroom, one-bedroom and den, and two-bedroom apartments with two baths. It's clean, and the food was excellent. They had bridge club, poker club, field trips to the theater, and shopping trips. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They just need to have shower stalls, not bathtub-sized showers.

My mother recently used the Jefferson to rehab following a stay at Virginia Hospital Center. While I did not directly witness her care, I later learned there were some issues/concerns primarily with readily available, critically needed medical equipment and call response times. Based on my mother's experience, you should verify equipment is in working condition and if not, replacements are available and quickly located. Do not accept substitute alternatives dependent on staff monitoring. Though staff response to call button was generally acceptable there were times it exceeded 30 minutes. On a positive note, the Physical Therapy Department was impressive. Although my mother only had an initial assessment it was apparent the entire PT staff was caring and dedicated. I avoided addressing the doctor issue because when at Jefferson he is in charge! Although morally I think he should have discussed with VHC doctors and my mother before he overrode instructions. Also, consider the language issue because technically they spoke English but some (most) not too well. I'm told that is what you get in those kind of facilities in large cities. Given my mother's hearing problems it was an even more difficult problem.

My father started in The Jefferson in their rehab hospital, and we were very impressed by their care. I really feel that the staff is incredibly tolerant and helpful. The rooms are clean, and what’s nice is that they have specialized assisted living, so my father has some significant needs that other assisted living wouldn’t provide for him, but he gets round the clock care, checked on every two hours, and help with things like toileting and personal hygiene, which some assisted living don’t really help with. So the staff gets the level of care that he needed, and that was really important. I’ve spent some time there, and I have noticed that people are dealing with difficult patients but they never lose their cool, and they’re always kind and professional.

The Jefferson wasn’t too bad. My father was in the rehab section for 3 or 4 months. It wasn’t staffed quite to the level it probably should be for a rehab. There were a couple of good people and then a couple of people who were probably too busy to do much of anything. So it was when you’re trying to make sure that medications are being administered and food is being delivered and provided. The food was nothing spectacular. They have a full calendar and a lot of activities going on, but it’s also a condominium facility. It could have been better, but they were missing things. Each staff member would take the blood pressure. They weren’t really communicating together, so it was too many unconnected people dealing with the place. They could coordinate the treatment and tell people what’s coming as opposed to dropping in when it’s convenient for the doctors and have the doctors schedule the time.

The only thing I didn't like about The Jefferson was that there was no parking. Parking was really bad. The people are nice and friendly. It was all clean; it smelled good. They did have people who were cleaning up or picking up or doing something while I was there. There are different things for different people, including card games. They take you on bus tours. They also show movies there.

The Jefferson is very organized and comfortable, it just felt right. The room I looked at was a one-bedroom with a den that you could use as an office or TV room, a living room, a small kitchen, and another room, which you could use as a guest bedroom. The one I looked at was carpeted. The staff I met was quite nice. The entire facility was very clean. They had exercise classes in their pool. They had a gymnasium and a library. They had a series of events sponsored there.

We visited The Jefferson over a year ago. It is not in the location that we want. It's in a congested area of Arlington. It didn't give us the homey feeling. The place was quite large. But the staff were very nice and accommodating. There was one young lady who gave us most of the time. The common area was nice too. There was a little party going on. I thought the dining area was nice. It was very clean as well.

I was impressed with The Jefferson. The facility was very nice. They did have a setup for eating and the way they get people together at mealtime, I think this was very beneficial for the people that live there. The food was good; I've eaten there myself.

I was impressed with the rooms of Jefferson and the closet space. They are situated in downtown Arlington and a block from the Metro. Their food was tasty, we had lunch there and they had an attractive buffet. The server was attentive. The apartments are well insulated and soundproof but once you are outside, you are assaulted with all kinds of street noise and we decided we wanted a quieter location. Also, they did not have activities that we were looking for.

My mother lives in the memory care unit at this facility. Overall, my family's experience has been very positive. My mother is well cared for and seems very comfortable in her environment. Above all, the caregivers have expressed genuine concern for my mother and our entire family. We began hospice care several months ago and the staff at the memory care unit have worked seemlessly with the hospice providers to assure the best possible care as my mother's health declines.

Another property run by Sunrise. This is a highrise property in Ballston VA. It is located very close to the metro so if urban high rise living is what you are looking for this is a good match. The apartments and furnishings are attractive and the staff is very attentive. The only big downside in my view is the location in that it is right in the center of a very busy part of town. There are lots of activities including trips into downtown DC for events at kennedy center and elsewhere.
