I toured Sunrise at Mount Vernon. Their staff was fantastic. Everybody whom I interacted with was wonderful. It's a lot smaller community. It's surrounded by townhome communities. It offers a lovely environment, and I saw a very active movement there, but it's not for my parents. I would not recommend it to them. I could see the benefits of it but just not for my family. The tour was fantastic. They showed me the entire property, gave me pointers about their outside areas, and showed me the safety and security factors. They're undergoing renovation. They have a salon, a courtyard, and a parlor that extends to the outside, so if it's nice out, you could go out there. They were in the middle of transitioning their library into a learning center. You could do classes there and have a library there. They have a garden club and little plots so that people can play in them just like that. That's a key thing for me because my dad's a green thumb.

My father spent two and a half weeks at Sunrise at Mount Vernon. His room was small, but adequate with a shared bathroom. So, it's not a private one. I liked the activities director. They played games, danced, and sang. However, he has advanced Parkinson's as well as Parkinson's dementia, which was why he was in the memory care unit. They said they could provide the level of care that he needed, but they could not provide him with the physiological safety that he needed. My father experienced eight injuries in two and a half weeks. The last of which took him to the emergency room. The lack of responsiveness by the leadership to our expressed concern was very unsettling. He was taken by ambulance to the emergency room in the middle of the night and the next day nobody spoke to us about it.

Sunrise at Mount Vernon was not nearly as good as the other facility. It was a little dingy. It was clean, but you could tell that it had been in service for a while. Some of the outdoor spaces were not as well kept. It was definitely a small facility and not a lot of space. It seemed like it was really just rooms and a couple of slightly larger rooms. There wasn't anything really that stood out about it. The rooms were all fairly cookie-cutter. It was kind of rundown. The head maintenance guy was the one that gave the tour. The sales rep was apparently on a call and didn't feel like calling anybody else in to actually give the tour that we had scheduled. The maintenance guy was able to show us around and show us where things were and what they did. It was not a good look for them. We looked over the menu briefly. It's fairly standard and didn't seem like anything special. They had additional charges for bringing it up to the rooms and stuff like that. They had a calendar of activities that didn't seem very impressive. It was kind of standard things, and a lot of it seemed kind of makeshift. We didn't observe anybody conducting activities. I would suggest that their sales staff or their customer service representative should actually show up for scheduled tours. They had us sitting around for about 20 minutes.

My brother-in-law was in Sunrise at Mount Vernon for about 2 weeks. He was in memory care. His room was very cozy, warm, and friendly. I felt the same way about the staff. They're very accommodating and very accessible. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law needs more than what is there because his medical situation has changed. His room was standard, clean, and recently painted. It fit the bill for what he needed. He wasn't there long enough but where he was, at the memory care, they would try to engage the residents that they had. There was an outside area and a common area for them too. That's where they would sit with him quite a bit because if left to his own devices, he would just sit in his room. He enjoyed their food too. We have no qualms with anything about them.

My mother moved into Sunrise at Mount Vernon, and it is great. I've thoroughly enjoyed the staff. They're great people and very caring. I have great relationships with the staff. They've gone through a couple of executive directors. I don't know the current executive director as well as I knew the old one, but they seem to be constantly moving forward, so I've appreciated everything they've done. The food is pretty good. I'm a food person (a foodie), and I'm a trained chef, so I always look at it like I understand what things cost. I think they could be maybe a little bit more creative in their menu planning, but I don't know everything that goes on behind the scenes with their cost. I think their cleanliness is top notch; it's very good. The common areas are amenable, accessible, and well patrolled, and there are plenty of staff available. I have on occasion been there late at night, and I think there's a dramatic drop off in the number of staff versus residents after eight o'clock at night. I would prefer that ratio to have been a little bit better. There have been situations where I've gotten a call from somebody at eleven o'clock at night, and I can't communicate with them because I can't hear them or understand them. It's not always the best at night, but I think it's the best possible scenario overall, because during the day the staff there is phenomenal. I definitely think they could improve on their overnight staff, though. How many staff are available to care for people after the hours of nine or ten o'clock at night? I also think that they can improve upon the quality of individuals, and accessibility to the phone. After nine or ten o'clock at night it's very hard to reach anybody to get any answers.

We chose Sunrise at Mount Vernon for my father because it's very close to where both my brother and I live, and it's actually right next door to the hospital. We've been very pleased. He's only been living there a little bit, but the staff has been very nice. The building is very clean. He hasn't been able to use the dining area yet because he's basically quarantined for 14 days. He says the food is quite good. Once COVID lifts, they'll be reverting back to what they were doing before, like they would arrange activities like movie nights, they would take the residents out for shopping trips and restaurant trips, but right now because of COVID, they're not doing them, which is unfortunate. The atmosphere seems very nice. The people have been very friendly. My dad has only been living there a little bit, and he's having to kind of shelter for 14 days before he can get out and then go with other people, but the staff and the residents seem very nice. It's expensive, but it seems comparable to what other facilities were charging.

My husband fell in love with Sunrise at Mount Vernon. We were very impressed with it. We already got him a private room, so we are already set to go. It's right at Mount Vernon Hospital, and it's five minutes away, too. They are the only one that offered an in-person tour, so we got to see the facility, the dining room, and what his room would look like, and it was really, really nice. My husband is moving in on February 20th. I love it; it was wonderful. They connected me with people who helped me with the paperwork, so they helped me with everything. The facility was clean and quiet, and everybody was very professional, too. They introduced me to everyone, and they took my temperature and had me wash my hands, too. It was a great experience, and it's wonderful. Otherwise I wouldn't be taking my husband there.

My mother is at Sunrise at Mount Vernon. It is very good. They're very caring. If I have a problem, I can call and they would call me back. My mom likes Sunrise better than the other ones we looked at. She feels the most comfortable there. I have eaten a couple of times, and their food has been very good. They have lots of activities too. Every time I walked in, they have something going on.

I looked at one of the suites in Sunrise at Mount Vernon which was very nice. The place was very nice. They do art stuff, walks, music, entertainment come in and play familiar songs that people would know, bake cakes and bread, games, and puzzles. It's just a sundry of things that they do in a month. They have church service for various denominations every Sunday. They try very hard to work with your loved one and they seem to understand. The place is also very clean.

If I had it to do over I would not have placed my parent in this facility. There were a number of significant bumps in the road and when we would discuss our concerns it was always someone else's fault and would often take months to resolve if they ever were. The caregivers are not certified in any way. A number of them are good but have way too many responsibilities to properly care for their residents. The people that work there generally do not appear to be supported my their management, the rooms are not cleaned regularly or if they are it's very minimal and the food is unappetizing like nothing I have ever seen before. Please find someplace else to place your loved one if you care about the quality of their life at the end of their life.

Sunrise was neat and clean, but the rooms were pretty average and small. They showed me a shared room. The entrance was very nice looking, and the dining area was nice. The people were professional. It smelled nice because the room I went into had potpourri.

Looks are deceiving. This facility is not what is appears to be. Before you place anyone here make sure you speak to several of the residents and not just the sales staff. The tours are designed to show you only what they want you to see. The food is horrible, the rooms are dirty, the staff are untrained and unskilled, and memory care is an area where they warehouse residents. Sunrise assisted living seems to be America's dirty little secret. Everyone knows what is happening but nothing is done to improve quality of care. I hope this review helps someone from making the same mistake I made!

Sunrise of Mount Vernon was typical of the Sunrise facilities. Unfortunately, we did not have an appointment when we went there so the person who normally gives the tours was not available. There was someone else there, and we looked at a unit and thought it was very nice; it just wasn’t for us. We happened to be in the area for another reason, and we just went there. We just were shown a renovated apartment, what they did, and how they changed everything out, and that was pretty much it. I thought they did a good job. They replaced all of the appliances, the cabinets, and the flooring, and they painted the whole place. It pretty much looked like a new apartment, and I’d give that a four.

There have been a few glitches at Sunrise at Mount Vernon, but overall I’m pleased. The staff’s work ethic and work attitude is great. I’ve not encountered anybody that hasn’t been upbeat and positive. My mom is in a single room that has a bathroom, a little refrigerator, and a cabinet; it could hold a queen-sized bed if you wanted. They offer a whole bunch of activities. There’s gardening, bingo, arts and crafts, and painting. There’s a walking club. After a certain amount of points with the walking club, you get to go out in the community for ice cream. The food is freshly made; I’ve eaten it myself. It’s healthy, tasty, and filling.

Sunrise at Mount Vernon seemed to have a broad spectrum of activities, and they seemed to be able to accommodate what I might need. They had an outdoor garden, and they had different things that the people can participate in. They had an eating area upstairs and downstairs, and they had transportation to other places. They had doctors available. The staff seemed friendly, accommodating, and professional.

My husband is at Sunrise at Mount Vernon. It is fine. He likes this facility. His room is roomy, and there is a nice scenery out the window. It also has a high ceiling. There is also a sink-and-kitchen area and a dining area within the room. My husband is in the Reminiscence unit, and just this afternoon, they had a piano player and a singer. They would also play bingo and word games. They have a TV too that usually has old TV programs. They have physical therapy as well. I like the staff, but they probably need more of them to take care of the a.m. care and maybe more interaction with the residents. They don't seem to interact as much as I think would be helpful. However, Sunrise at Mount Vernon is a beautiful place, and everything is quite lovely.

Sunrise at Mount Vernon has a memory care center. I visited this place for my mom. My visit was wonderful. They have a very caring staff. They followed up with me. What I like about this facility was that it was right next to the hospital, and they have a memory care facility. This place was very clean. It was very nice and clean. The yard and the landscape were up-to-date. The rooms were good; they were large.

We are going to Sunrise at Mount Vernon because, first of all, it is owned by a big organization that also owns 5 hospitals in this area, so the bad name of Sunrise for financial problems don't exist there, and it is right on the same property as a hospital. It is across the street from a whole slew of doctors -- a couple of which we have used -- and then it is the closest one to the house with the exception of the one on Duke Street. They just turned a whole section that used to be assisted living into memory care, so everything in it is new, and they had first class furniture, it is just very nice. I haven't tried the food, but that is not a big problem for my wife.

I would have like to see more one on one time with the people living there. Most seemed understimulated and very lonely. Our group was a special occasion, maybe more outside entertainment would help. The healthcare at this facility seemed to be better then the social care. All patients seemed coherent and none seemed overly drugged or medicated. Overall Most of the elderly in this facility seemed to be taken very well care of and be overall rather content with there lives here. I would consider this facility for one of my loved ones if the need ever did arise. I would feel safe and comfortable knowing they would be taken care of.
