I have moved into Alate Old Town, a new facility in Alexandria. I like the amenities that they have. They have activities like yoga once or twice a week. It's very friendly senior living. They have a music room and an art room. They have an outside grill too. They even have a place for the grandchildren. If you have them over they have a room downstairs where the grandkids can go and play. They also have a dining room where you can have a family gathering, so you can have friends and family come over. If you don't want to eat in your apartment, you can go to the dining room area, which is a couple of feet away from where you reside. It is very comfortable. We have a TV on each floor. We even have a doctor's office, so it's very convenient for 62+ independent living. I haven't eaten any, but they have meals. They serve breakfast, and occasionally they serve food during activities like paint and sip. It all depends on what the plan is for the week. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. It's pleasing and satisfying the way that they meet your needs as much as possible. I just feel like they should have apartments with rent based on income.

I went to tour Alate Old Town. It is a beautiful facility. It's new. It's very contemporary in design. However, they need people there, and they need to provide activity. There was only one yoga class and one dance class during the entire week. They have an art room, which is very nice, but it's not used. One of their residents likes to write poetry and is involved in poetry, so she's beginning to give classes. As far as activity is concerned that provides stimulation, they just don't have anything by comparison. The staff was minimal. I saw three people only. The young man who led the tour for me was wonderful. However, nothing is being served in the dining room. I expected to see people and the dining room was empty. It has been used a couple of times by several residents who were running a private party for themselves, and they're the ones who use it. They serve only two dinners and six breakfasts per week.

My tour of Alate Old Town went great. I enjoyed the lady who gave me the tour. It meets all my criteria, except there's no pool. They showed me a two-bedroom, and it was furnished. That was all well and good, and it's close to little shops downtown. I like the area and everything, but it's so far from some of my doctors. The staff who gave the tour was very thoughtful. I had to sit down a few times, because for some unknown reason I got lightheaded, but she was there and she took her time. She was very patient with me. So, I really enjoyed the tour.
