I visited this facility

Overall, Chestnut Place was a very good place. The scale is larger and they have more apartments. They have 18 units in memory care as opposed to 12 at the other residence I saw. It is much newer. It's only been open for a couple of years. The staff was very forthcoming and very informative. The units were quite adequate, clean, and there seemed to be quite a high level of care. The dining area layout is very comparable in the sense that one end is a dining area, and at the opposite end is kind of a living room type area, and in the middle is a nurse's station.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Being brand new the rooms are nice, big windows. The showers leaked and my Mom’s never was fixed. 50% of the staff are caring and do a good job, unfortunately the other 50% are the management and supervisors, they don’t care and set the tone for the rest. There’s lots of turnover and prices have increased 10% in the last year. The food isn’t very good, lacks variety, and 1/2 sandwich, pickle, chips isn’t worth the money we pay. Activities are lame and inconsistent. Communication is awful for the most part, especially between the staff as it relates to what needs to be done for the patient. The time when everyone was doing their job efficiently and professionally was when the state was there doing an inspection and that was the first time I ever met the director, he acted like we’ve known each other for years. That was the point we decided to move my Mom, they know what they should do, they just don’t do it. This doesn’t apply to everyone, but I see why there’s so much turnover. I would suggest you find another place, especially for assisted and memory care levels.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My wife and I moved to Chestnut Place three months ago because we could no longer take care of our home and I needed assistance caring for my wife. We have a beautiful new one bedroom apartment in the assisted living area. We have a well qualified nursing staff to help with my wife’s care. We are served three meals a day in our beautiful dining room from a menu. Our apartment is cleaned for us and if needed our washing is taken care of. Our car is in a security garage under the building. We are treated with respect by the staff and our needs are met. Sure, we’d rather be in our home but this is our best option at this time of our life. Life is good !

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a resident there 3 months. My service dog was not allowed in the dining room. It is not dog friendly as there is no place to walk your dog. The apartment is surrounded by hilly areas. Winter will make it much worse. At first there was only about 8 other people living there. The food was excellent. As more people moved in the food became mediocre & very bad when I left. I noticed that protein became sparce & potato's & other white foods filled the plates. Broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, changed to Beans, corn, peas & carrots. I do not blame the cook for this but the quality of the foods coming in declined. The manager has a quick temper & shouts at people & can be mean. This happened to me 3 times & I've heard him shouting at others. The area is not safe. Indigent people live all around the place & camped in the woods last summer. Taking the dog out at night was unsettling as often they hung around. Activities were childish. My car was robbed in the parking garage. The garage door is often broken. There were cameras but staff only watched 3 hours worth & decided the robbery took place somewhere else. I could go on but no room. Think before moving in,look the area over and think.

Chestnut Place is a beautiful place, and it's brand new. My mother really loves it there, so we're happy. They have bingo, trivia, and a bunch of puzzles in the independent care. They don't have those up for the assisted living yet, but they'll have the other stuff up soon. My mom was in independent to begin with, and now she has moved out to assisted. She said the food is good. We've eaten there and it was very good. They have a patio and landscaping all done. It looks really nice. They have a movie theater and a salon. It seems like a good place. Her apartment is brand new, so it's all clean.
