My mother-in-law is currently in Brookdale Midwestern. It's very well kept. You walk in and the dining room is to your right, and they always have flowers, or like for St Patrick's Day they decorate it. They have the living room to your left and all the tables were decorated for Mardi Gras. They did the same thing and put beads on the people, they have that whole festival thing going. It's very well laid out. The apartment is painted, the carpet is clean, there's a kitchenette and a sink with a dorm-sized refrigerator, and the bathroom is spotless. The staff has been very helpful in putting up with my mother-in-law even though she didn't wanna go. They've been helping her. They even took her bed off her bed frame because she would fall out. They take care of her bathing needs and she's getting better. She didn't wanna eat but they did what I told them, just take her out even if she just sat there like a log for breakfast, and now she's eating her lunches and dinners. They take the residents on outings and she's actually been happy going out. She's doing better and the nurses there make sure she's taking her pills. She loves the food, and she's a picky eater to start with, and she said that some of the stuff she's never tried before. They have a salon where she's getting a pedicure and a haircut tomorrow, they have bingo and card games, they ride around town, and sometimes they take them to Walmart. One time she came back and she had a couple of apples and cookies. She says that every two hours at night they come and check up on her, making sure she didn't fall. The place is very well cared for and maintained, it's clean, and doesn't smell. It's overall a great value for the money.

I went to Brookdale Midwestern. The staff there seemed wonderful. I met like four or five of them. I even met some residents. They showed me the rooms. They really talked to me. They made me feel good about their facility and transferring my mom to their care. They were really good. They are definitely on the list to look at for her. It was great. I liked the way they had it set up. They had a courtyard. It seemed very intimate. The room had a microwave, a little oven, and a refrigerator in the kitchen. They told me all about the meals and what their setup was. You could take your mom to lunch if you wanted to. The room was very nice. They even took me into one that they were repainting and redoing. I was surprised at the size, even of the smaller one. It was very adequate. I just really liked the way it was arranged. It was a good floor plan.

I wouldn’t recommend Brookdale Midwestern. It’s the one I put my mother in for 2 months. My mother does not have Alzheimer's or dementia, and 90% of their clients there have Alzheimer's or dementia. The facility is older, but it’s a nice facility, and the staff is awful. They do not take care of their patients very well, and they don’t help her in the middle of the night.

We toured Brookdale Midwestern, and I like the place. It seemed like they had things to do. They do have activities, and I think they took them on shopping trips. The people seemed friendly.

Brookdale was really nice. The living space was larger than the other ones I had looked at. They had full-time chefs rather than just cooks, so they had a better choices on the menu.

Brookdale Midwestern (Formerly Sterling House of Wichita Falls) was the smallest. It was single floor. It was like in a square, so you have a courtyard in the center. The one thing I didn't like about it was that they had breakfast at a certain time, and if you didn't come down, they would either go get you or see why you didn't come down. They had a set time that you had to be there for meals. Also, you have to be buzzed in because the doors were locked. This might be a plus or a minus to some people, but it was kind of a minus to me. I believe they have people that they have to keep a closer eye on. You can come and go as you please; it is just that the doors were locked, and you would have to be buzzed in.

I like this community, and in fact, I recommended it to my friend above all the facilities I've looked at. I particularly liked it because the young woman who was in charge of it impressed me a lot. The people were very friendly, and then the thing I most liked about it was I felt like they had nursing staff with a greater degree of availability. We were able to look at an apartment there, and it seemed a little small, but it was fine.

Grandma has been here about three months now. The place is nice. It's really clean and the staff is friendly. She seems to be enjoying herself there. The facility has an easy location.
