Over the course of several years, my family & I visited many assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and even residential small group homes in Texas. We explored the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolis, the Texas Hill Country and at least a couple of dozen smaller communities in North Central Texas. We also consulted with professional senior living advisors and were satisfied that there were several places that would meet my mother’s needs when the time came to move her to a place where she would be provided with round-the-clock care. A PT who had worked with Mom for well over a year and whose opinion I genuinely valued, spoke highly of Morada and thought it would be a good fit for her. So I dropped by during an open house and was welcomed by Jennifer, the director. She introduced me to staff & answered my many questions. Almost immediately I thought, “THIS is the place.” I was so confident in this decision I drove straight home and took Mom for a visit that same afternoon. Soon thereafter, we moved her to her new digs. Mom has been living at Morada for about 9 months now. She and our whole family are very happy with the care she receives. Morada doesn’t have all of the bells & whistles that some places promote. But I wasn’t looking for bells & whistles. I was looking for a competent and caring staff with a relatively low turnover rate (one really good indicator of good management). I met several staff who had been working there for more than a couple of decades. Literally, everyone was cheerful and seemed genuinely interested in my mother. They are super-cooperative in meeting my need for good communication, too, truthfully conveying Mom’s needs and challenges as they arise. Every single staff member I have interacted with—a lot of people— has been forthright with me. I cannot thank them enough for that. I was also looking for a clean facility and a place that might feel more like “home” and less like a 5-star hotel. The rooms are very spacious (enough to set up her sewing machine and a table for jigsaw puzzles) and flooded with natural light from a wall of windows. The roomy bathroom is perfect and accommodates a walker, a wheelchair and staff whenever necessary. Speaking of 5-star hotels, Stella —Morada’s official concierge— is just amazing. The Four Seasons or the Hotel Ritz Paris should be so lucky. Stella is sensible, solution-oriented and joyful. She helps me navigate with ease the ever-changing slippery slope of care and “risk management” of a woman in her 90s. Mom’s room includes a kitchenette, much like you find in a suite hotel. But who needs it? Morada employs a REALLY GOOD CHEF. The meals are delicious and provide for each resident’s unique nutritional requirements and preferences. I had pretty much worn myself out preparing nutritious meals for Mom when she was still at home, but when I saw the kind of meals Chef Holly was serving 3 times a day … what can I say? It was one of those hand-to-forehead moments. What a bargain. The activities director, Jonette, is terrific at preparing activities and field trips for the residents, many of which can include families and friends. Her management of the common areas is creative & therapeutic. For instance, a tree in one of the common areas is decorated for each major holiday and season. Over these past months, I have watched how this one detail has helped my mother keep up with time. It’s “homey” and “effective.” Jonette often plays the piano, too, while my mother sings. I consider this a real blessing since she loves to sing and in years past has sung in a church choir. The nurse, Angela, has contributed one solution after another for the various health complications that have arisen (unanticipated by me). Every solution has made a positive difference. Putting it all together, I now rest easy with Mom’s round-the-clock welfare, which at this juncture in my life is a tremendous relief. For this, I am grateful to each and every Morada employee.

I toured Morada Waxahachie and it was clean, bright, and inviting. The staff was very kind too. The actual person I needed to speak with was not there, but the ladies in the front office were very helpful. I viewed the room and I just saw where they ate, which I already knew because my mother-in-law stayed there. So, I am already familiar with it. They also had a lot of activities during my mother-in-law's stay.

My dad has been in Morada Waxahachie for two months now. We're still trying to get mom-approved. It's a home away from home. Everyone's very caring, thoughtful and tries to get him to feel at home and feel comfortable. They're always asking what else they can help with. They're just very good. We don't have any complaints. The staff is wonderful. Everybody treats them like he's family. They're great. The room that he's in has been updated. It's like a little apartment. We're more than pleased with the accommodations that he has there. I've never had any experience with assisted living. The only thing I'd been to was a nursing home and it's a different feel. It's very homey. They have an activity room. They have activities throughout the week, and they have everything listed. They have outings weather permitted. I think they were taking them to a pumpkin patch this week and just getting them out and trying to get them to socialize. They have a hair salon where dad can get haircuts. They do minimal kind of exercise if the residents want to. For someone just like in their wheelchair, they can do with their arms and that kind of thing. They don't have an exercise room or anything like that. They have a chef. Everything's very user-friendly, the setup, to the dining hall, to the laundry and nurses' station, everything. Value for money is very good. We've called around some different places, but those were more expensive.

My mother is in Covenant Place of Waxahachie. They're very nice to her. It's a nice place, it's very clean, and they take care of the residents really well. I have no complaints. A lot of the people don't like the food. Some dishes are very spicy, but other than that it's not bad. They have games, exercises every morning, and they watch movies. They have a lot for the people to do. The upkeep is nice, they keep the lawn mowed, and the rooms and the lobby are clean. The staff is nice, but there are nurses who are not very friendly.

Covenant Place of Waxahachie is a fantastic place. The lady in charge did everything that she could possibly do. They had an exercise activity. I can't say anything bad about it.

Mother is in Covenant Place of Waxahachie. It is a nice facility, and for the most part, it is clean. The food is great. The staff is fine. Some of them are very caring and for some of them, it's just a job. Sometimes she participates in the activities like bingo and church services. They also have trips, but she didn't usually go on them. It is in a nice neighborhood and near a hospital.
