I will be moving to Gala at Waxahachie. It was a new building. They had open floor plans, and they had everything that you would expect from a regular apartment. I loved the way the apartment was cut, and I loved the friendliness of the people that I spoke with. The staff was very friendly, very concerned, very compassionate, and very personally interested in the person that they were talking with. They had elevators in the building, and everything was handicap accessible. They had grilling areas, a clubhouse, a shuffleboard court, a community library, a theater, a wellness room, laundry rooms, an arts and crafts room, a fitness center, and a beauty salon. They celebrated the birthdays of their residents, they played bingo, they did Bible studies, and they had water aerobics. The place was very community- oriented. They had a beautiful cafeteria and they had areas where you could just go and sit and have your own lunch if you cooked it in your own apartment.

Gala at Waxahachie was nice, but it's not appropriate for someone my age because I'm 81, and it has these long mazes of halls, and you can't see outside or anything until you get into an apartment. There are two elevators. I have a dog and he wakes me up sometimes at night at 12:00 or 1:00, and I couldn't see myself trying to roam those halls and trying to get him outside. It's not their fault. It just did not fit with our needs. It's for 55 and older. They do absolutely nothing for you, even trash. The apartment was nice and it had a balcony, but there's no way I can wag a big old bag of trash around these halls and down the elevator and all the way outside to that trash thing. It's a nice place. It just seemed kind of cold. I saw nobody. The staff member during the tour was really good at what she was doing, but she couldn't sell me that because it didn't work for me. They had some activities, but pretty much the activities were like bible study type stuff. There were no other get-togethers, like a cookout or games or something like that.
