The home may be old, but the staff are VERY friendly. Everyone greets you as you enter and all are eager to help in any way. The food is the best I have ever since in a nursing home and they are always happy to offer a guest tray when I would visit. The facility is clean and the care is exceptional. The activities are wonderful and range from the traditional Bingo to silly string wars and hallway bowling. They even have a monthly painting party and the residents get to paint a canvas with the direction of an artist. It is a joy to watch this activity. They are active in our community and the staff and residents attend most of the parades and events and have participated in the multiple floats in our local parades. The rooms are small but are very homelike with personal items and decorations. They have multiple outdoor areas for residents and family to visit and the flowerbeds are beautiful I would highly recommend this facility to anyone with a loved one in need!!

I visited Van Nursing Home a few weeks ago when I was trying to place my father. After speaking with the Business Office Manager, I could not have been more reassured about placing my father. This lady was so knowledgeable, kind, and understanding knowing the difficult decision I was needing to make. After meeting the Administrator, I decided I needed to explore other options. The Administrator was condescending and arrogant and seemed to talk down to me. I am a teacher at VISD and have lived here for the past 14 years. It is disheartening to think that people have to depend on someone like her to tend to their loved ones. The only reason I would have placed my loved one in Van Nursing Home would have been because of the level of comfort I was given by the office manager.

Fred A. Lovelace 12-27-2020 We have been begging for COVID info so to visit my mother in law and to just learn, several days too late, that we could have seen her for Christmas is just chilling. Communication with the Van staff is just horrible.....

There are nurses at this facility who are absolutely disgusting towards residents family members. One Nurse she has a very raspy voice older nurse is so rude to the family members i wouldn't be surprised if she was worse with the residents. I observed her talk down to a family member following the covid rules and sitting outside talking to their family member inside while the family member wanted to be able to speak with their older father. This is a disgusting way to treat anyone let alone someone who trust your facility to take care of their loved one. I was coming by to see about talking to someone to have my mother moved here after witnessing this my husband and I left with out speaking to anyone. Also there is some grungy looking skinny maintenance guy going in and out of the facility with no mask on. Seriously. This place needs to be reevaluated and have corporate think about who they hire.

My husband was there a little over a year. Upper management except the business office aren’t the best in running a facility like this. My husband went days without showers or shaven ! He was allowed only one roll of toilet paper a day, would not allow him to keep pull ups in his room, always ignored him most of the time, was always talking down to him and my husband has dementhia. He also told me that it really got bad when I wasn’t around. Their staff is basically all family employees and when there was a resident complained then they just pushed it under the rug!!! It got so bad that my husband told me that if I don’t put him some where else he would get out even if it was thru death!! That’s all I had to hear so I had to relocate him! Also his stuff was always missing and NO one ever seen it! I wouldn’t put my dog in there!!

Van Healthcare Center is a small nursing home located in Van, Texas. I have visited this facility about ten times over the past few years. It is an older nursing home and it looks like an older home. Out of the twenty or so nursing homes that I have visted this nursing home is among the least attractive homes. While the appearance of a nursing home is not among the most important factors for choosing a nursing home, it is the first thing you notice when entering. The rooms are quite small and the appearance is stale. It certainly doesn't have a homelike feel to it. The staff were not especially friendly, though this wasn;t the case with everyone who works there. Nursing homes always have high turnover rates compared to other types of businesses and healthcare facilities. There are not many options nearby Van, Texas. Since there is little competition in the area, Van Healthcare doesn't have much of a reason to improve the appearance of the facility. I believe the care is average. Overall, I would rate the nursing home two stars. I never noticed anyone not being taken care of but the atmosphere isn't the greatest and staff didn;t seem to go out of there way to make someone feel welcome.
