My mom is currently at The Shoal for rehab. This is her second time, and they're amazing. They get her up and move in just a short 20 days. They're helping her with PT and OT to build strength. They've already gotten her out of the wheelchair into a walker, so that's great. Everybody's been good, very supportive, and just enough push to get her motivated to get her out of the wheelchair and walk. It's a very clean facility. She's in a private room. It's got a full bath and everything. She's very picky, and she is on her diabetic menu, so they do accommodate based on your needs. The staff was very communicative. They call me all the time, and I like that. They're always punctual to answer any questions I have. They're really good. My mom's happy with the activities too, because when she's not doing her OT, she is running the halls in her wheelchair meeting people. I think it's $196 a day with her insurance after 20 days, and I think that's pretty fair.

The facility and the staff are amazing. My dad was there for a month to recover from breaking his hip. He can walk and live at home again because of the wonderful people that work here.

My mother is currently a resident at The Rio and she loves it! She receives excellent care and the staff is extremely attentive to her needs. We visit daily and the staff is always pleasant and friendly. I know there were issues in the past but the administration is new and have made great, positive changes.

The care my dad received at the Rio was totally awesome. I highly recommend anyone needing great nursing care to go to the Rio. I don't understand any of the complaints listed here as my dad received exceptional care for over 2 years until he passed recently. All of us put in money to send the staff a big flower arrangement we were all very pleased with the attention and care my dad received while at the Rio and we would not have wanted him anywhere else! Thank you to all the nurses and staff at the Rio for taking such great care of my dad.

Awful, awful place!!!! My sister went there for rehab and left traumatized..... She didn't get the care such as her oxygen.... After the sixth day the respitory therapist discovered that the oxygen was never hooked up to the bypap machine. So everyone was telling her she was just giving herself anxiety and that's why she couldn't breathe!! All they said was sorry.. she fell out of bed because the hospital bed she was in was ancient and didn't have side rails. The charge nurse doesn't deserve to be taking care of people period... They left her on the potty chair for a long time and didn't clean her up.. I had to ask for gloves and they just handed them to me without asking me first what I wanted them for.. so I told them myself. She is too weak to clean herself. That's why she was there to help get her stronger. Being there for a week set her back on getting her chemotherapy. Her cancer Dr. said he would not be able to do her chemotherapy in that shape. He sent her straight to the ER. She has been traumatized by this place. Do whatever you have to do to find a loving place. I assure you this isn't it.

I don't give any stars on this place! My mom was there for just over a month...I would come in and she'd be soaking wet laying in her own filth! Some just a few mind you were doing their best, others not!! I have nightmares of this place where she died.....and get this...I paid for another month and the day after i paid my mom died...they cashed the check THE DAY AFTER SHE DIED ON MAY 16 making it the 17th of May.....they still have not reimbursed me and when I try to call they give me the run around!!! Please do not take your loved ones there....they are a disgrace to the profession!!! I'm still waiting for the reimbursement!!! It's not about the money....they cashed that check the DAY AFTER SHE DIED!!!!

My mom was in rehab there for three weeks. The rehab staff are wonderful and very professional. They had my mom up and moving in no time.. I give that department 5 stars. The activity director is wonderful,l with the patients. I had to insist that the nursing staff take my mom to activities to help stimulate her mind. The nursing and care staff still need a lot more work. I took my concerns to the administrator, (he has been there for 4 months). He talked to me and said, he would be talking to the nursing staff and his goal is to get The Rio,up to one of the best facilities in Texas. The next day the care had improved. You do have to be there everyday, to make sure your loved ones are getting the care they need and deserve.. Under the new administration I believe, it is headed in the right direction.

DO NOT EVER take your loved one to this facility. 1 CNA And 1 nurse to 20 patients for the entire short term care side. Slow response time. Patients are left in their rooms all day other than therapy.. They do not check on their patients during the day and sit in urinated diaper the entire day.. Only positives are the Physicians assistant and therapy. Staff is very unprofessional and poorly trained. Medications not given at appropriate times. CNA administering medications.

My sister was a resident in 2015. I am glad to say that she is no longer living there. I have dealt with a few nursing homes in my life, and never have I dealt with a home that was more unprofessional in their business office. I have not had any luck getting assistance from the staff, and been flat out lied to! Forget trying to reach the Administrator....everyone is unavailable. Does anyone actually WORK there!?

We have a family member that was taken here to rehabilitate after having major surgery. He was admitted on a Monday, by late Wednesday of the same week, he had developed problems. The family had voiced their concerns with the nurses on staff. When they asked if there was someone (as a medical director) who they could speak with, they were told "no" there as no one in charge to speak with. By the weekend this condition had started to cover his entire body along with fever. They gave his ibuprophen. By the weekend, the family had to demand that he be taken to a medical facility to be evaluated. By way of a long story, he had to have major surgery to have skin grafts and is currently in the burn unit. Whatever you do DON'T take anyone here. And in addition, he fell out of the bed twice! We asked for railings to combat that...they said they couldn't provide those. This place is pretty on the outside, but is truly awful on the inside.

Please avoid sending family here. I am a medical professional. My relative was here for 3 weeks. Poor nursing care. Poor response to basic care needs. Poor medical care. Poor professionalism.

Right now, Charles is in the Rio Rehabilitation. It’s a very nice facility. I think they are very short on skilled nurses, but they do a very good job in the rehabilitation department. They work very hard with them, and I think he’s shown improvement. It’s very pretty, and the rooms are large and kept clean. The patient looks nice and clean, and they’re very kind to them.
