I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful Iris Memory care and all of the staff there are! We would not be where we are without this wonderful place taking care of our dear Mama Rossi. We tried in-home care for a year and her symptoms worsened unfortunately and loneliness set in. Once we made the switch to Iris immediately her spirit changed in a positive way she’s upbeat even with memory decline and she’s active in the wonderful activities they do. It is worth every penny having her there at Iris Memory care and we are glad to have them caring for her. The activities coordinators are the most engaged and creative I’ve ever seen and both of my grandparents were in memory care facilities years ago.

Memory Care by Design
Iris Memory Care is THE residential alternative to traditional assisted living. Unlike other Memory Care communities which regularly have in excess of 40 residents in a building, Iris Memory Care has two separate buildings that are built for a maximum of 24 residents each. Advanced research has shown that those living with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia thrive in a small, intimate environment, therefore our home-like model lends itself to maintaining each residents health, happiness, and freedom of movement.
An open floor plan in each building permits residents to easily navigate their way and allows staff to provide accessible care and supervision. Thanks to a higher staff to resident ratio compared to most Assisted Living communities, residents enjoy individualized attention and care every day at Iris Memory Care.
The kitchen and dining areas are designed to encourage community and social engagement. Meals are served from an open concept gourmet kitchen where you can see, smell, and hear the preparations and even have a chat with the chef. Families are encouraged to join their loved one anytime for engagement and conversation over a home-cooked meal!
Innovative Activities
Iris Memory Care believes that the best way to maintain a residents' quality of life, to help prevent falls, and to manage potential behavioral issues is to keep residents engaged in stimulating, interesting, and engaging activities! Robust activities programming and regularly scheduled events engage the mind and stimulate the senses, giving a sense of purpose and daily successes. Not only does Iris have a full time Life Enrichment Director (Activities Director) on staff, all staff members are equipped with multiple tools to assist their efforts in providing activities based on current research and best practices, including Snoezelen Therapy, a soothing, multi-sensory experience designed to stimulate the mind, increase awareness, and improve mood and cognition.

We would have chosen Iris Memory Care of Rowlett, except they only offered semi-private rooms. But we liked it. They had good activity programs and very friendly staff. It just seemed like it would be a good facility for my aunt. It was pretty much a brand-new facility, and they had an onsite salon.

I went to tour Iris Memory Care of Rowlett. The lady who was coordinating was awesome. She gave me a lot of information. She gave me a bunch of pamphlets on stuff that I was looking into. She was very helpful. I liked the facility. The rooms were great. It looked like the eating facility there was good. It was an older community. I mean, the average age is between 80 to 85, and my wife is very young at 60. To me, it seemed like most of the residents were fairly docile and I don't know if it's because of the meds. They had a salon and a big TV room. There were two room sizes available. One was smaller, but it was for individuals. And then there was a shared room. They were both good. They had a bed, a nightstand, and a closet.

Iris Memory Care of Rowlett was a great facility. They had wide open spaces. They had a good staff to patient ratio. They cook all their meals from scratch. They have private and semi-private rooms. They have large common areas, game nights, and stuff like that. I like the staff to patient ratio, and it's secure. They have locks on all the doors. I think they watch out for their residents pretty good, and they try to stay engaged with the residents. They're out on the floor with the seniors. The residents were engaged in their little activities at that time, and some of them waved at me. They have little programs, physicians onsite, hairstylists onsite, and psychiatrists onsite. You don't have to take them anywhere, but they encourage families to come, take them out, and bring them back. It's a good place. It was built three years ago, and the owners live here in Dallas area. They stop by often to check up on everything. I met the chef, and they make their own food from scratch. It's not just buying cheap products. They try to have a good diet for the seniors.

We were able to visit Iris Memory Care of Rowlett. I got to see a little bit of how things were run there, and I was pleased with it. The staff were very nice and very understanding of the situation. They were very sympathetic and helpful with what our needs and goals were. It was really nice. I can't remember the exact dimension of the room, but it was a pretty good size. It was set up with furniture. They have their particular bed, but for any other furnishings, we can either leave what is in there, or my sister-in-law can actually bring in some of her furniture to personalize it. I would call it about the size of a medium modern master bedroom, similar to a pretty good-sized hotel room with plenty of closet room. It has a nice little bathroom where those who are able to take their own showers can do so. They also had a shower room where if they need assistance or aid, they can shower down and so forth. For the most part, if they are still capable and they can do most everything on their own, they had a very interesting socializing program, I guess you would say. They get to do arts and crafts, games, and other various activities. They keep them pretty engaged, and it was very pleasant to see. As a kid with great-grandparents having been in nursing homes, I was afraid to see something like that, with wheelchairs lined up along the wall and everyone sitting there drooling. It was nice to see that they really have a lot more going on to try to keep them as mentally engaged as long as possible. There may have been one or two little minor things that could have been better. If we are comparing it to hotels, this would be like a really nice hotel that an average, middle-class guy could afford for a great vacation every couple of years, as opposed to a five-star hotel that only the very rich could afford. They seemed to really care for the people they were working with. It was almost like I just gained a half-dozen brothers and sisters helping me take care of my sister-in-law. The atmosphere of the place was really nice. They really seemed like a dedicated, caring bunch. It was a slightly older facility, so there are some minor landscaping and maybe little painting issues here and there. It was in good condition but needed a few little touches here and there. We talked briefly about the food, and I got to see a menu, which was impressive. They had a very fairly varied diet, but it was a little on the bland side, simply because so many of the residents have various nutritional issues and needs, like low salt and that sort of thing. It was pretty varied, so you don't get too bored with it. If the patient has some kind of nutritional need, they can customize it to a certain extent.

We visited Iris Memory Care of Rowlett. The rooms were clean and I liked them. It's a good place, but it's a memory care unit, so they don't have TVs or the refrigerators in the rooms. They have places they can go and get drinks. I've seen them sewing and they do puzzles and bingo, they show old movies, and I saw a little exercise area. The dining area was nice and clean. The staff was friendly and they were very good.
