Think Twice Before You Choose

Its real nice at first when they want you to put your love one in there. That after awhile than the true nursing home comes out, alway short handed, takes an act of congress just to get someone to call you back, billing is a joke if you choose to take care of your love ones billing. Be very aware. You would have to tell anyone that would listen to help, because when the residents push the button for help, takes forever for anyone to answer. If you call to talk to your love ones nurse, will that's another story. The food, sometimes very good, most of the time not good at all. They treat the residents badly, they lose there clothes and the room barley clean, had someone come in do the floors and empty the trash, alot of the room you go by and the pee and poo smells were so bad, and you know I'm not the only one who could smell it, you have to ask for everything, I was told that they would take the residents out of there room , put them in the hall way and just leave them there, when they said they would be back in a min. that min. could be 30 to 45 min. later. The only good thing they would have fun activities. Sad that's the best thing..... I know sometimes you have to leave your love one in a nursing home, but just beware of the way your love one is treated. All nursing homes are probably about the same, sad you put your trust in these people and this is what you get. Be aware of what is going on, if you have to put your love one in a place like this.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is a residence at Prairie House. This is her third nursing home so I have a good understanding of what to expect and how the process works. I am very pleased with the staff at Prairie House. They are extremely responsive and compassionate. The staff is always available to discuss any questions I have and most of them now greet me by name when I go visit my mom. My mom would tell you the food is much better than the other two nursing homes she lived in. They are very willing to accommodate special requests if at all possible. In a nursing home environment food is such an important issue and I am always impressed with the appearance and aroma of the food. My mom has been a resident for nearly 5 months and is happy with her new home after her initial adjustment period.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My grandfather died a month later after I wrote this review on their Facebook reviews, that got deleted you lack the compassion as nurses and administrators, My grandfather was septic for over 2 weeks had black unstageable wounds on his heels and your NURSES and STAFF did nothing, the owners of this facility owns many other nursing homes and they are all the worst in the state of Texas. your staff and administrators lie about how long in takes o get medical records My grandfather is on hospice and has been given 2 weeks to live because of your staff. the state nursing boards should take all your license away. you are suppose to be patient advocates instead you are just there for a paycheck Your doctors and medical directors should be ashame of them selves they took a oaths just like the nurses to protect patients And instead do nothing. check the states website before putting your love one in this home, Nursing should not be attached to this. check how many times state has been call and check how many malpractice suites have been filed

I visited this facility

The nursing home staff was very helpful and tended well to the residents needs. The LVN's in particular were the best at communicating with the residents. The CNA's sometimes were not as helpful and would ignore some of the residents to finish other tasks before attending to the resident that recently asked for something. The dementia unit was great to visit. The residents made the experience amazing because of the different personalities they had. Most of them just wanted to talk to someone and have someone listen. The nursing home had a great storage room that contained medical and hygienic supplies. One of the families visiting needed shampoo and lotion and the nursing home was more than welcome to go to the storage room and offer new bottles of shampoo and lotion. Overall the nursing home is great place for residents to stay. I really enjoyed my experience there as a student and learned so much information from the residents I interacted with.
