My mother-in-law is in Ashwood Court Assisted Living. It's a good facility. They have different levels of care. There's the level-one care where it's pretty much independent living, and then there's the next stage of care. Level two is for those needing some assistance but not a lot. And then there's level three, which is pretty much constant care, except that they are not bedridden. My mother-in-law happens to be at level three, and they do a really good job. In the beginning the food was great, but, of course the pandemic hit and they had to hurry to make some changes. The food is OK, although it's not what it was before. They're slowly getting back to where they were before, where everybody could meet in the dining room and they actually had a meal plan. After the pandemic, it was just kind of whatever you put together that was nutritious, but it wasn't nearly what it was before. There's not much on the presentation right now, but it has nutritional value. The activities also changed when the pandemic came around. They had people come in and perform music, they have a library, and they host bingo and knitting circles. There's a game night too. Overall, they're very attentive. There have been many changes with the staff. The building is a renovated hospital, and it's older.

Ashwood Court was nice and clean, and the representative that spoke with us was very informative. Overall, it was a great experience. We only saw one room and it was very nice, very large, and accommodating for someone that is in a powered chair, so we were pleased with that. The outdoor spaces were very nice. They had a courtyard with seating and a waterfall type thing. It looked very pleasant.

The visit I had with Ashwood Court was good. They had some gathering places and a courtyard. It probably was older than the other facility we looked at, but it seemed well kept. They had some nice features as well, similar to the other one, just a little older. The staff did really well. The place was clean.

I toured Ashwood court. It was very clean, the people were friendly, and the manager who showed us through was very nice and very forthcoming on what its like for somebody to be there. I appreciated her honesty in that. They showed us the dining room, which was very nice, it was like a restaurant; somebody takes your order, and they bring the food to you. They have somebody bring you your pills, and do you laundry. Some ladies were getting ready to play cards.

I visited Ashwood Court for my mother. The tour was good and very informative. They answered my questions. The rooms were good. The main reason why I kept looking and went somewhere else was because of the price. The facility was nice but wasn’t at the top nor the bottom of my list; it was in the middle. I didn’t notice too many activities.

An elderly couple in our church put down a deposit for Ashwood Court. The place was awesome. We ate an awesome lunch there at a table with some residents who were really nice. The staff was nice. The place was clean and smelled good. We’re impressed with it.

We found Ashwood Retirement, and my parents moved in February. It was affordable. I probably went to 20 different places, and they were the friendliest people with the best food. I ate at several of them. I did eat here at Ashwood, and it was fantastic. They're cleaner, and they had bigger rooms. They go on trips, and they play bingo, dominoes, and puzzles. There is a North East Mall, which is just down the street. There are a bunch of restaurants a short distance away. It's close to where I live, and where my brother and my niece live.

My sister is in Ashwood Retirement and Assisted Living. My sister is in their waiting list since 2009 and she is now living there for about a month and a half. We choose it because it is kept nice and they accept Medicaid. The first thing that I notice about it when I walk through the door is that it has no odor and it is very clean. I talk to the lady that she told me: "I always said that I'd never have one of the places that I run to have a smell. I can't stand that". She says: "We work at it around here". For instance, they pick-up the trash twice a day and I am impressed about that because they don't let it sit around and begin to smell. My sister says she loves living there. She has a darling room and we furnish it. It has a small refrigerator in her room. My sister loves the food and their dining room is not glamorous, but it is clean. I am impressed with the fact that they take care of her medicine and they seem to be organized with the handling of the medicine for the people. As far as I am concerned, their ethics are great. The lady that runs it mentions that they have to stay there overnight because somebody is ill and during ice storm they pitch in to each other. They can have their own doctor. I also really like, and it is helpful for me, that they have two doctors that come because l do not have to pick her up to see a doctor and take her back since it is a 25-minute one-way drive from my place to the facility. They have activities like bingo, dominoes and games. So far, it is positive experience.

We would not recommend Ashwood. They gave my mother-in-law the wrong medicine but she still doesn't want to move because she has lots of friends there. We only learned about it from the doctor because they tried to hide it. The atmosphere is okay and the facility is clean but it's more of an institution than homey.

Ashwood Assisted Living is one of the most comfortable and attractive facilities I have seen. The halls are very wide and fully carpeted. The building is fully carpeted, painted, papered and trimmed to be a pleasant place. It integrates a number of garden areas with plantings, walks and benches into the property. The rooms and baths are spacious and modern. Many such facilities are old and run down or are expensive. Ashwood is neither. The staff is friendly, professional and well trained in geriatric related issues. There are daily supervised activities and a number of clubs and associations for residents to belong to depending on their tastes. For example there are clubs for bingo and other popular games and pastimes. There also is a resident run association that collects and provides resident feedback to the management at regular meetings. Staff is always available to assist the residents at club gatherings and many social activities are supervised by the Activities Director. In some ways Ashwood seems more like a modest resort than a place providing care for seniors unable to live entirely alone.Ash wood should definitely be on your short list for assisted living care in North Texas. The location is easy to find, being very near the interstate between commercial and residential areas well patrolled and traffic controlled. Plenty of parking is available for visitors and residents.Lenard Green
