Our father, father-in-law or grandfather spent three years in the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Needville. We were unable to care for him at home and this is where he wanted to be. He grew up in the area and knew so many of the residents already there. The administration, nurses and staff provided him with wonderful care. We didn't have to worry about feeding him. He was provided with good warm meals. He loved playing bingo, enjoyed the entertainment and music that came to the nursing home. He was not ever lonely. He had a television in his room to keep up with the world of events. The staff was always so pleasant to visitors. The staff always informed us on any medical changes or appointments he had with doctors. We as a family were very pleased and so thankful for everything they did for him. Great community with wonderful hearts.

My mother has been at SPJST Rest Home for about year and three months now. We checked with a few people in the community and outside, and they thought that it was a good place for her to be. The food seems pretty good; it is just standard food and everybody gets the same thing at the same time, not like some of the other facilities that I have looked at where they have a choice of different things. But they kind of follow a specific diet plan based on the occupational therapy input as far as how the residents can chew and swallow and stuff like that. They've got a separate small dining area for those that need help being fed, and then they've got one big dining area where everybody is brought into for their meals. There is a dietician on the staff to ensure that they get everything they need, and they weigh them once a month, and then add whatever they need to based on that. It is an older facility that was built in the 60's, so the rooms are really, really small, but she is in a private room with a shared bathroom. They all do activities at the same time, they have an activity director, and they play Bingo, volleyball and different kinds of things. But most of the time, the residents are in the big dining area sitting, visiting or whatever or in their bed. They have had some staff turnover, but as far as the caring from the ones that had been there a long time, I think the care is good. When anybody looks for a facility for a loved one, one of the things they look at is the longevity of the staff and it was there when we first moved her in. Then, it changed all of a sudden because of some changes that were made. There's been a lot turnover there recently, but I think the staff is generally good.
