I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is at Wood Memorial Healthcare Center and we chose it for him because it's close to the family. The staff takes really good care of the residents. They've been very, very good, very hands-on, very helpful, caring, loving, and nurturing. The rooms are small though. They don't offer a lot of space for two people. They share a bathroom with another suite. Also, the facility just needs updating.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This place is a joke. The staff do not care, or give their residents any respect. Was unable to reach my relative because they never would answer phone. The DON is the most unprofessional nurse I've ever encountered. The facility stunk and was filthy. Called the state many times reporting issues. We ended up doing our relative's laundry. His socks would be black because the floor was so dirty. There was a shirt covered in blood in laundry basket, we asked what happened Their responsew as "they didn't know" My relative was seriously injured there. I wish I would have listened to a family who told us to get our relative out immediately. They did after 3 months, we did after 5. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!! I honestly feel guilty of the time my relative had to spend there until I could find another place. DON'T DO IT!

The staff at this nursing home do not care about the residents. They ignore the residents health issues and will not attend to their medical needs unless you keep asking questions. Most of the staff are rude and are dishonest when you ask questions. The facility stays dirty and smells terrible. I have had family members in nursing homes in the past and this facility and staff are the worst I’ve ever encountered.

Other

I am a daughter in law of a woman who just got out of that nursing home She was in rehab there. The rehab was very good.. The nurse aides may have been nice, but neglected some of her needs. They didn't empty her bedside commode in a timely manner,or position her I'm the bed. I would come in to visit her and she would be at an angle in the bed. For goodness sakes she just had cancer surgery. She had a hard time repositioning herself. They never helped her to turn on her side. This woman is 85 years old.. Is this how you want your mother or Grandmother treated.?

I am a friend or relative of resident

The staff are pleasant, the food probably slightly above average. I feel they were not pro-active when addressing my mother's medical issues. I had to bring things to the attention of the nursing and medical staff on several occasions. There is a Physician's Assistant, under the direction of a M.D, who covers Wood Memorial and several other nursing homes in East Texas and therefore, I feel, cannot be as effective due to the work load. But that could be, due impart, to keeping medical costs down to deal with Insurance and Medicare reimbursements. My mother was treated with dignity and true love.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents live in Wood Memorial Nursing Home. They're pretty large for skilled nursing, 120 beds. It's just fairly crowded. They'd been around forever, and you can tell. The location is great, though, because it's right there in town. The staff has been fairly helpful. I've asked them to call me for any little thing, and they do, which I appreciate. They've had so many problems getting her medication adjusted, but they do call for that as well, because I keep in touch with the doctor. I keep in touch with the head nurses there and anybody in between.

I visited this facility

I have visited this facility approximately 15 times in the past three years. I would rate this nursing home as "slightly above average" for the following reasons. Positives: It is a relatively small nursing home in a rural community. Many of the residents have lived in Wood County for many years and people tend to know each other from the past. Familiarity is a good thing. For the most part staff is friendly and I believe they take good care of their residents. This is most important. For the most part staff seem accessible for questions. Negative: Though looks of a nursing home are not nearly as important as care the nursing home doesn't have a comfortabl feel to it in my opinion. It doesn't feel like a "homely" atmosphere. Despite this I would feel reasonably comfortable if a loved one lives here and would feel comfortable recommending this nursing home to others. Unfortunately there is only two choices for nursing homes in Mineola. I think I would feel comfortable with both of the homes.
