We chose Autumn Wind Assisted Living Mineola. One of the main factors is the location and also the amount of care that they could provide Mom and the situation that she has. Mom was somewhere in between needing skilled nursing and assisted living. They offered multiple different types of levels of care. They coordinate what they can do to try to take care of business as best as possible. She has a one-bedroom apartment and it's very nice. It's laid out very well and has everything she needs. I have not tried the food but my mom says that it is very good. She's been very happy with what they fix and the alternatives if it's something that she doesn't want. They have a theater room when they have a special showing of something they can go to. They have folks who come in several times a week and do different things like bingo, art, and music. They also have therapy every day where they take them down and they do something to help them get exercise and to move around and stay active.

I was impressed by Autumn Wind Assisted Living Mineola. It was a very nice facility. I didn't find anything that I didn't like about it. Everything that was presented to me was impressive. It was clean and very nice on the inside. All the residents seemed to be happy. I didn't see anybody sitting over by themselves and not doing anything. They were actually in the dining area, getting ready to eat lunch, but they had activities going on before lunch. The rooms were nice. I didn't have any complaints. I was also impressed by the rooms. It was someplace I would like to retire, to be honest. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. You asked any kind of questions, they were able to answer them without any hesitation. They gave me a full tour of the place and didn't hold anything back. So, they were great. The structure of the building is very presentable. When you come into the foyer, it is very nice. There's a chandelier hanging in there when you come in. It didn't smell like urine or any of that type of stuff. It had a really good clean air smell to it. I didn't have any faults with them at all. I would have been happy for my mother to stay there. The rooms were decent size. You can bring your own bed, dresser, couch, and TV in there. There was a microwave in the room and the bathrooms were very big for them to get into.

My dad is at Autumn Wind Assisted Living. We like the price. It's very personable and warm. They genuinely care, and they know my dad by name. My dad said the food was good. They have a weekly schedule of activities planned. It's very convenient, like 15 minutes away.

I toured Autumn Wind. I liked all of it. The people I talked with were nice and the facilities were fantastic. It is a little expensive, but they're all expensive. They showed me two different kinds of rooms. There's a room with a little kitchen area and stuff. And then they showed me a 1-bedroom; I liked that very well. It had a door to go outside into the hall. It had beautiful scenery. Everything was just so nice. They serve meals and take care of everything. When my son and I went, it was on a Saturday afternoon. As we were going in the door, a gentleman that works there came out with a group of men, and they all had fishing poles. They were going fishing. And the lady that is in charge of the activities was getting her group of women together to go someplace and do something. They do not have transportation on Sundays, though. I had asked about going to church, but they do have a minister that comes in once a week and gives a Bible study, and he comes in another day and holds a church service. They have three levels of care. On the lower one, they will come in, tie your shoes for you, and help you get dressed. They said that because I am a little unsteady, somebody will come in and sit with me while I take a shower. The staff was very, very knowledgeable and very pleasant. She answered my and my son's questions without any hesitation. She knew what she was doing. They gave me a sheet that listed their weekly menu on the meals. They said you can come to the dining room, or they will bring your meal to your room if you wish.

They take great care of our Mom. She has dementia and she cannot do anything independently. They are so patient and attentive. They also took care of Dad before he passed and he loved them!! I feel secure knowing Mom is in a safe place being treated with dignity.

My mom is a resident of Autumn Wind Assisted Living. When COVID hit the assisted living facility, which is separate from the independent living because they live in cottages, they had to put things in place so that no one could go in or out. She felt like she was isolated; they would bring her food at lunchtime because they have one meal that they give to the people in the cottages every day. Not that they didn't really care about the people out there in the cottages, and the cottages themselves are like twice, maybe even three times the size of the places at these other facilities, but there was no room for them to go and really gather together. What they ended up doing was, they would have a room that nobody was living in; and they would let them use it to get together, and play cards, dominoes, or something. There wasn't something that was a facility, or a place that they could go to get together, that they could count on being there. So that was that was frustrating for her. Also, when we got her in there, they said they would provide transportation when she needed to go to places -- like if she wanted to go to the grocery store and things, and not just a doctor's appointment. After it changed hands, though, within three or four months of her moving in, they no longer did that. She didn't have a way to get to the grocery store without feeling like she was imposing on someone. I live in Tyler, which is a ways from there, like only twenty minutes or so, but but she never wanted to ask me. She never wanted to say, "I haven't been to the grocery store in a week and I'm out of all this stuff," so I was having to run back and forth when she finally did. She just was very unhappy because there wasn't anything for them to do or ways to interact and have a social life. Also, they didn't follow through on the things that they said they would do, but that's because it changed hands. She hated the food there. She wouldn't eat the food, even though she has some requirements. She can't stand foods that are deep fried, and they did a lot of fried foods. She's like, "That makes me unhealthy." She tried to tell them, and they tried to work with her, but she needed fresh fruits and vegetables, not everything with oil on it. It was very annoying for her, the quality of the food; I mean, I wouldn't have eaten it either. The staff is very, very nice, and their living quarters are spacious and beautiful. They don't get to go use the dining area, so they eat in their cottages. It has a full kitchen and room for their tables and chairs and things because it's actually very spacious.

Autumn Wind's building was very well-maintained. The rooms were a little bit bigger. The dining area was very open and clean. The staff was good. They have an activity room and an exercise room, but I didn't see anybody in them. They had a jigsaw out and people were welcome to see if they could put pieces in.
