My mother stayed in Evergreen Cottages - Bridgewater Cottage for 15 days and passed away. I didn't visit any other homes. Once I talked to Evergreen, I was so impressed with the gentleman that owned them that I made an appointment to go talk to them, and we knew that was the place. I never even went to any other place. The first thing that I noticed was it did not appear to be like a nursing home. It was a home environment. It was very warm and welcoming. It was very clean, and it was decorated so nicely. The aides that worked there were also caring and personable, and I never had a complaint. Mother had Parkinson's, was in a wheelchair, and had dementia, so she wasn't able to participate in a lot of activities. Eventually, she went to bed and was not able to get out. The food looked good and smelled good when we went in. I did notice that they did a lot of activities with patients that were not in my mother's condition. The upkeep was very good. It met my expectations.

About Evergreen Cottages - Bridgewater Cottage in Katy, Texas
Like many great ideas, the concept for Evergreen Cottages Assisted Living began in the kitchen. Family and friends had gathered for dinner. The conversation flowing from the kitchen to the great room ultimately turned to the challenges of getting older and the prevalence of Alzheimer's and other dementias. The inevitable questions came about, ''What would Mom or Dad want?' 'What would we want for them?' 'What would we want for ourselves?' The conversation and answers to these questions formed the concept and impetus for Evergreen Cottages. The rooms are nice and clean, but the food is not nutritious. Very small plates are given to the residents. They are junk food items (pizza, hotdogs and canned items like tuna, canned soup, etc.) Don't be fooled by the advertising that says nutritious meals are served. My parent stayed here and was given sugary snacks and junk food instead of real, nutritious meals and snacks. The staff is not trained in memory care. Alot of the staff doesn't even speak English. They are simply caregivers. So, don't expect that memory care will be at the forefront here. It won't be, unless you hire your own memory care therapist.

The rooms are nice. The facility is very clean. The staff is doing the best that they can, but it's evident that they are not fully trained. There is very little in the way of memory care here. There is no memory therapy, there is no memory activities, etc....just occasional dance periods for social media posts. And occasional holiday events for social media. No real memory care. It's just a nursing home. There is no staff with expertise in memory care. Healthy meals are promoted in their marketing materials, but pizza, hotdogs, chicken nuggets and canned soup are served mostly on the weekends. There is a significant staff turnover which affects the well-being of the residents.

There is a larger than usual staff and it was very clean and the residents are treated like family. There were several activities for the residents, a large open area where the residents could do crafting eat meals and watch TV. Outside there is a beautiful water fountain and a huge covered porch where residents and visitors can sit and talk. Just everything seemed to work so well. My mother-in-law had stayed in 4 different facilities prior to Evergreen and this was by far the best facility for price for cleanliness and most importantly, for real care from the caregivers
