My friend is in rehab at The Meridian. He moved in after his hospitalization. It seems very adequate. He has been progressing a bit in his ability to move around. I talked to the physical therapy people yesterday and we talked about what I need him to be able to do. They were very receptive to my input. I saw his food that he got and it looked delicious. He ate every bit of it, so that was good. They have been pretty responsive to my concerns and questions. He has only been there a week. They are trying to be very observant of all of the anti-Covid restrictions and the facility was clean and neat. The room that he is in is a little bit out-dated, especially compared to some of the things I have seen (as I am a physician, so I know what a hospital looks like). It is very serviceable and it looks like a good place for a transitional facility. However, I have been asking to have a doctor-to-doctor talk and it has not occurred yet. I would like to know a little bit more specifics about my friend's condition, knowing what I know about his previous condition. Everything else has been pretty good.

I was sent to Meridian for rehab after breaking my hip. ALL of the staff welcomed me and made me feel at home! The rehab and care was excellent. I would highly recommend them. The check-out and doctor is the only reason I would not give a five star. The doctor time response was lacking. The checkout was not coordinated efficiently, however, the overall care was excellent!!

We moved my dad into the Meridian several years ago after I had taken care of him in my home for five years. Though we were both nervous, starting with our very first encounter with staff, we knew we made the right decision. Every staff member we encountered over the last three years was loving, warm and real. My Dad absolutely adored everyone who worked there from the maintenance department who helped put his recliner together, to the front office staff, to the med aids and nurses...they were all wonderful. They got to know my Dad as a person, not a patient. He was a very independent guy, and they allowed him to experience as much independence as possible in ways that were safe. They went out of their way to make sure he could still live his life with dignity. I knew he was safe and loved which took a HUGE burden from me. The Meridian staff became like a large extended family for my Dad and me. I will always be incredibly grateful for the loving care they gave my father in his last years.

The staff was so friendly and the accommodations were awesome. The entire time we were there, everyone was so enjoyable. The residents were all friendly and loved talking about the island. Will be back for a visit again soon. Looking forward to the breakfast!!!

This is a clean facility, the 2nd floor nursing part, with nice staff and good food. They were understaffed when my husband was there, but he could do enough for himself he was okay. The reason for the Above Average review was due to the good staff and cleanliness. Most care homes are understaffed, so I'm not giving a minus for that. I understand their staffing has increased, a good thing! His PT and OT was also good, and that's what he was there for. I was comfortable with his safety. Care was given to see that he was placed with a compatible roommate. Valerie Leon is exceptional in her position, and the social worker was very knowledgeable and experienced, and shared info with us. We will definitely use this facility again.

Do not send your love one here! My father was sent there by UTMB without my knowledge:; they said my father requested. The facility is dirty, staff appear to be bothered by patient request. The rooms is dirty, old broken furniture. Before arriving, my father utilized a walker. When I visited he was in a wheelchair, said therapy staff wanted him to learn how to use the chair which did not have an alarm, he was a dall rusk. My father was given a bath with HOT water. No one knew who worked that day when questioned.. I arrived to see my father reading resident rights. They ignored him when he reported the incident. I could go on forever. The Executive staff not caring, it us a money train, go off the island.. JBB Sept 2017

I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's dirty and the food they serve the patients is terrible. We had to bring food in daily for my dad so he would eat. I had to insist one day for him to be taken back to UTMB as I knew something was wrong. The nurses kept saying it was a panic attic. If I had not insisted I don't think my dad would be here today. The 2 weeks he was there he never saw a Dr. The nurses would call the Dr if there was a problem but he was never examined by one. The nurses were nice but the whole time he was there his health deteriorated instead of getting better. He was moved to a different facility and within two weeks there was a drastic improvement in his health. So if at all possible stay away from this place.

I didn't like The Meridian at all. I wasn?t happy with their rehabilitation. They didn't seem to have enough people there to help my husband because he wasn't getting much physical therapy and help for when he needed to get out of bed to do anything. The food wasn't very good, and they didn't really have an activities room. He was pretty much stuck in his room without very much to do. It seemed like they had more employees keeping the grounds looking nice than they had actually working and taking care of the patients, so I was very disappointed in them.

I did not like The Meridian. It was not private or at least they did not show me anything on a private level. Over there, my grandmother would have to join a room with somebody. The lady that showed me was nice. I just did not like the area that they were planning to put her, and she would have to share a room with someone. It just wasn’t to my liking. However, they just had a room with two beds in it. I liked the privacy thing, and they did not have the privacy there. It might have had some better rooms, but she did not show it to me.

The Meridian was my first choice until I found out they had a C average quality rating in the last five years. The physical facility was very nice, but my impression of the residents was one of unhappiness or less than satisfied, and there wasn't any positive energy. The sales staff never followed up. I made three or four visits over there, and they never followed up with me. When I started doing research, I received very negative feedback from locals as to the quality of the staff, and that told me that the Meridian is very poorly managed.

My mother was there for approximately 8 weeks. We were there all of her waking hours. She received friendly, caring attention at every turn. The staff went above and beyond to make her comfortable, both physically and emotionally. We also witnessed staff deal with the other patients with patience and kindness. They learned individuals' idiosyncrasies and responded to each in the most appropriate way. The OT, PT and ST were also amazing in outling and executing plans that enabled her speedy recovery. We are grateful for the professional, positive environment afforded by The Meridian in our time of need.

We were extremely disappointed with The Meridian. He was so terrified about what happened there. He came home, and he was so afraid and traumatized. He said they were so mean. He fell between the bed and the wall and got a big skin wound, and the blood stayed on the wall the rest for the time that he was there. I would rate them a -10. There was a dead roach smashed on the wall, and it was there when we left. The room was dirty, and he was dirty as well. It was horrible.

Please do not ever leave a loved one here. My father with Alzheimer's was here for rehab after many brain surgeries. The facility was dirty, with dead bugs everywhere. The staff was unorganized. Worst of all, months after my father's stay there, he still asks us to never send him back to "those people, those mean people." I don't want to think about what they could have done, so please avoid this place at all cost.

The staff nurses are great, however, some of the CNA's have a lot to be desired. I have personally seen that several residents remain in wet garmets an entire morning and sometimes the food is served cold because the place is understaffed. It has potential to be a fabulous place if there were more people who cared like the nurses care. Also, there are to many family members working there. I think the entire staff is related somehow. It makes it hard to report anyone because their rear is covered by some family member.

AVOID THIS PLACE!! UTMB sent my Aunt there for physical therapy rehab after a short hospital stay, and no one seemed to know why she was there. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was Saturday afternoon when she came in, but it was no better on Monday. Mom spent all Monday morning on the phone with them to try to find out the game plan, no one knew anything! Just kept transferring her call around. By afternoon on Monday, Mom had come and taken my Aunt out of there. There are facilities that are good and that do take care of patients, but this is not one of them!! They had no hot water on Saturday when she got there, and STILL no hot water on Monday afternoon. Of course none of the staff who we asked on Saturday, on Sunday and on Monday knew what was wrong or when it would be fixed. The nurse told me they were waiting for a part to come in. How are they sanitizing dishes and bathing patients? (Hint, they're not)The dining area is a joke. I have never seen a more Mickey Mouse kitchen operation!! The 'visiting' area had 4 crappy tables and 1 broken chair. I would NOT leave my loved one in their care!
