My mom was a past resident at Avalon. It was a difficult decision to place my mom. She was young and I didn't expect to be doing this at such a young age. The staff was attentive, loving and Jennifer, the Director was amazing. She kept me well informed at all times and it really gave me a lot of peace of mind. I can't imagine having gone through this without Avalon.
What you can do with Caring
About Avalon Memory Care - Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas
Avalon Memory Care has gone to great lengths to provide a mode of care that is uniquely tailored to the special needs of the Alzheimers victim. We are concerned with every phase of the residents needs (physical, emotional, and social). We work to restore and support the residents self esteem, dignity, and the resumption of as many of the daily personal tasks of which the resident is capable. Surrounded by family treasures and memories, the residents live in the comfort and privacy of their own rooms in a spacious, ranch style, one level home with built-in security features such as a secured patio and roomy backyard. They bond with and enjoy the companionship of other residents and inevitably form a family feeling that eliminates the loneliness or isolation often experienced in institutional settings. They enjoy luxury accommodations including exquisite furnishings in these fine homes.
We provide professional and sensitive care for the physical, emotional, mental, and social needs of our residents. Our care focuses on the safety and well-being of our residents, 24-hours a day. We have many excellent referrals and are licensed by the State of Texas as a small/large Class B Assisted Living with Alzheimer and Related Disorders certification.

Six days of terrible care cost us over $7500. Terrible food. Terrible care. Landscaping is all gone outside. Smells inside. Would rate this zero stars if that were possible. Our loved one was starving there and others were not eating either.

To me, Avalon Memory Care looked more like an old nursing home, there was a lot of urine smell, and I was not impressed at all. I didn't see any activities. It's a pretty small facility, and it had two staff members there the whole time. It was also undergoing remodeling at the time of my visit. I saw a room, and it was OK. It looked old and certainly needed updating. The furniture was kind of torn up. The staff seemed very friendly and caring, but it just seemed like a lot of people were sitting around doing nothing.

I came unannounced at The Avalon. It was a very pretty facility but their rooms were outdated. It is also private care plus some VA, so it is not easy to get in there. Other than that, I was happy with everything I saw there. I like this facility very much. They have plenty of staff and they have high ratio of caretakers to the residents. It's a locked facility but I was met by five people. Some of the other facilities I visited, there was no one around. The people looked happy and clean. Their rooms, however, were from like the 1970s. They were small with shag carpets. They had bathtub showers instead of the walk-in type where you don't have to worry about lifting your foot up. They need to renovate and update their rooms. They need to get rid of the shag carpets and put in some new walk-in showers.

My husband was at Avalon's The Willows for about three years. He had a single room and all the residents had single rooms except for some couples. The staff was cordial and they did anything you asked from them. They changed the linens thrice a week. They had home health accessible that came when necessary and also a doctor. They had three cooks and all of them were very good and they cooked wonderful meals. They encouraged the family to eat with the residents. There were also activities like bingo and memory games, as well as holiday inclusive dinners for the family. They kept the residents in open population as much as possible and they did not let anyone lay in bed all day. You had access to your loved one 24 hours a day even if I came for lunch, dinner or anytime. My daughter came in on weekends and stayed with her father for the whole weekend and they provided meals for her too. I would suggest adding more activities and more training for the staff.

The Willows Assisted Living Community is a very nice lovely, stately ranch style building that we visited as a potential home for our aunt. The landscaping was quite beautiful, with plenty of peaceful space to enjoy all around the building. Outer grounds included a garden and lots of places to exercise and have parties outside. The seniors may enjoy many pathways safely to enjoy the serene environment. Residents may stop and enjoy the many nicely appointed seating areas adorning the windows throughout the building. The dining room was spacious with a very nice, upscale décor. The residents enjoy beautifully presented, healthy meals. The menus have a very nice blend of home-style and exotic dishes that you'd find in a 4 star restaurant. The private spaces are individually decorated, with calming and soothing color schemes. Each unit has beautiful views of the woodsy surrounding area. Bathrooms include safety rails and seats. The list of activities at this facility far exceed that of similar places. For example, they have regular barbeques, go on gorgeous scenic drives and enjoy near weekly outings to Lake Texoma where those who wish may go bass fishing. There is a band night and many visitors come to entertain the residents on a regular basis. They had quite an impressive social calendar overall. The fitness center has daily classes, equipment and DVD instructions. Residents can enjoy outings along the courtyard and many walkways. The seniors are also taken into town regularly to visit eateries, cultural events, the library and shop in local boutiques. The residents looked very happy and well taken care of by kind and caring staff, in a peaceful and tranquil living environment.
