The Village at Heritage Oaks was nice. They were very helpful, friendly, and reasonable. The residents were having lunch at that time. There are quite a few things where they can watch movies, and they have an activity room. I know they do crafts and things like that. I looked at a one-bedroom, and I liked it. It was nice. The place has been repainted and remodeled.

There were many kind and helpful staff. But some of the nurses need to find another career. I was a hospital RN for30 years. If you give a patient some meds and those pills get stuck in their throat, do you just keep doing paperwork? Ask the patient to step back from the desk. That is all they did. No concern or caring behavior. Eventually, after throwing up the water I had tried to wash down I was able to dislodge the pills by coughing. Not a word from them. Inhumane.

Watch your insurance claims closely. My 102 year old grandmother went in the home on hospice and soon after her death, we received claim notices for occupational therapy not authorized by her hospice doctor. Whether she actually got the occupational therapy or not, I have no clue. It's bad enough for them to bill for things not authorized but when worse off they tortured her with non- hospice procedures in the last two weeks of her life. All we wanted was for her to be comfortable and cared for in her final days.

My niece is in Heritage Oaks. They’re not consistent with the rules for their employees. There’s a lot of cell phone use. Her room was clean because I insisted on it. The security seemed to be OK.

Heritage Oaks was really nice. The rooms were very nice. There was big one bedroom and big living room. It was nice. I thought the staff was very nice. They went out of their way to answer questions and show us around. Most of the residents were doing something like playing cards in the game room. Everybody was doing a little bit of something.
