My mom has moved into Summer Place. I like the people and aides. The nurses and aides are wonderful there. I don't have any problem with them. I also have hospice coming, so they help with Mom, and that takes a load off the aides there, and I go there three days a week and feed my mom. So that takes the load off in Summer Place, but they're great when I ask for anything. I don't really have any problems. Right now, they are in process of cleaning everything, so it is very clean. It is old but well kept. They are in the process of remodeling each wing. They have started at the rehab wing. My mom's room is moderately lit with one window, but there's plenty of light, and her and her roommate don't like the lights on anyway. They like it dark for some reason. Clean-wise, they have just moved them out and shampooed all the carpets, dried everything, and cleaned the beds down, so it is clean. I'm there and I have hospice there helping, so everything is running smooth. Other patients that are there that don't have family come in, I don't know how it's working in those rooms. They are short-staffed, that's why I go all the time and take care of my mom during mealtime and get her ready for bed. All nursing homes are short-staffed. They just don't have the manpower to take care of all of the people that they are required to take care of, but in my situation, I'm quite pleased and happy with what's going on. My mom was on pureed food for a week and a half and she hated it, and she ate very little because she wasn't in the best shape at that time. She has gotten better, and she is back on regular foods. The regular food that she is getting now is wonderful. She is eating. She just digs in like she has never had food before. The food is very good.

The first thing I noticed was the stench of urine throughout the entire complex. I would not recommend this place full stop.

Upon visiting the facility the room was dirty, the pt. was very dirty. I took upon myself to bath the pt. his face had not been wash prior to the am shift. I asked to bathe the resident upon bathing him. I became more upset, he was dirty like muddy water. His underarms were like dirt between his legs the same thing. Very displeased with whole ideal of not being taken care of properly. Teeth weren't brush, ears not cleaned, neck dirty.

The rooms are very small. A total of 2 chairs are provide for both beds. (all rooms are double occupancy) For the most part the staff are caring but overworked. Never was a nurse call answered promptly. My husband had 2 falls requiring emergency room action for which I was billed for after his demise. Transport to the cancer center in Port Arthur was arranged by Summer Place and was always on time with excellent care provided. Its highly unlikely that I or any family member would recommend Summer Place if there is any other option available.

I was admitted here in January after going in severe respiratory distress at home and I had a major stroke in the hospital. I was totally dependent. I couldn't even lift my head. With their love, support, and help I am now up in a wheelchair and using a walker in my room. I rule the place vooming down the hallways in my wheelchair. Love to go to activities and checking out the birds and fish. Always saying hello to the staff. I know everyone and they know me. They pulled me out of the jaws of death and I really appreciate them.

We looked at Summer Place, but I don't think it would be right for my mom. It is more like assisted living, rehab. It's very nice and clean. The staff is very friendly. They directed us in the right direction.
