I know Longhorn Village pretty well because my father was there before, so I feel very comfortable in that place. Their current project will not be finished until 2024, so that's about the right time (that I move in). If you're in independent living and you need assisted living, you can move to the next level or if you need more help or you need nursing care or a memory unit, you can move there. They have a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, and a washing machine and dryers in the apartment and that's included in the service charge. They also have wi-fi. Another good thing is that it's not on a busy street. The staff during the tour was knowledgeable and pleasant and there was no pressure at all. They don't push you too much. The food was great; it's better than restaurant food. They have a courtyard and a lot of places for walking. It's a pretty good campus. They have gathering activities, group trips, and group dining. They also have the bus to the UT campus if you want to continue your education and you also can book them to doctors' appointments and things like that.

I visited Longhorn Village, which was further away from central Austin than I wanted to be, but other than that, it was an excellent facility. I have a number of friends who live there, and they're all very happy with it. The staff was fine. It's quite lovely and far enough up the hills to get a lot of open country in a sparsely occupied residential area. It's way far west toward the lake. They have a vehicle that can get you to a hospital and also an ambulance service.

Out of every place we've looked at thus far, Longhorn Village is the top. All the staff, from the management people all the way down to the maintenance people who we were introduced to, was nice. The residents were talking to us and telling us it is a great place. The rooms were large, lighted, and airy. The dining facilities were immaculate. They have their own pool, water aerobics, card game nights. They have trips to Austin. They do cruises once a year on cruise ships. You name, they have it. We talked to the activities director. He said if we can think of anything, if we can get a couple of people that want to do it, they'll work it up. I'd highly recommend them, but it is costly.

Both the staff and the facility are first class. The staff is competent and caring and the facility is warm, home-like, spacious. There are activities nearly every day; music, movies, games, puzzles, etc.

This facility is amazing. It is a higher end facility compared to those others in Austin. The main entrance looks so nice and they always have cold, fruit flavored water available in the main sitting area. The staff was always smiling and welcoming. Many could remember my name since I came by often and I felt bad because I could not remember all of theirs. The main facility is separated into 3 parts. There are many apartments and small houses for those needed only minimal help with daily activities. In the middle of it all, there are rooms for patients with Alzheimer's and Dementia as well as a skilled nursing unit. Both rooms that I visited were very spacious and comfortable. The residents all seemed very happy. Mostly with all the activities that are available in the facility. It was a great experience for me to see that growing older doesn't mean we all have to be sent to a nursing home. There are facilities out there that provide positive living situations.

Longhorn Village would probably be my top recommendation for an assisted living community in Austin. It was developed as part of the Ex-Students Association of The University of Texas. As a result of the college connection, Longhorn's staff is very proactive, involved and hands-on. The community is beautiful, large and upscale. It's located close to the University of Texas golf club, Lake Travis, and sits inside the pricey, planned community of Steiner Ranch. Housing units are spacious and very beautiful with apartments or stand-alone villas. As far as dining goes, I thought the food was great. Residents have access to alumni benefits (due to the university connection) - such as discounts on university classes, access to the university library, and discounts on alumni group travel to football games. You don't need transportation at Longhorn since they have a regularly scheduled bus that takes residents to shopping, events, downtown, and the UT Performing Arts Center. They have separate sections for assisted living including one for memory care (Alzheimers), and another section for skilled nursing. I highly recommend Longhorn Village if you're looking for an upscale community with great care and amenities.
