I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt is a resident of Emerson South Collins. What I like is that they offer three meals a day for them. They offer transportation, maybe to grocery stores and doctors' visits. The laundry mat is in there, so they don't have to pay for that. I like the staff, because I go over there most of the time, and they come in and they greet me, and if you need some assistance they try to help you out. They try to keep the facility clean. They have somebody to come and sweep their rooms and stuff, and maybe do the bathrooms every two weeks. The food is good. Sometimes I would take my niece over there, and she enjoyed going over there to have a little meal with my aunt. Sometimes they have bingo or something, and a lot of them don't do bingo. They would like to do other activities, but sometimes, like every Friday I believe, they go out to breakfast or something. Sometimes they'll go to Golden Corral or different places. They have rooms and stuff where they can watch a movie. They have a little popcorn and stuff for them to do. They have little game rooms. They have a beauty shop and a barber shop there. For the money that she's spending, I think they're doing a good job with that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Emerson South Collins doesn't serve meals on a regular basis. Like tonight, they're not serving dinner to the residents at all. My sister has only been there two weeks, so we were caught off guard. They've already missed three of the evening meals where they don't serve the meals or give them vouchers or do anything to compensate. You pay for the services when you move in, and they're not doing that. They also don't provide follow-up technical assistance for their internet. My sister has to do it. Most of the elderly residents, including my sister, have no clue how to reconnect their internet. They individually have to call Spectrum and try and get walked through that. Fortunately, my sister has me and I'm tech-savvy so I could go over there and get her reconnected very easily. They don't have anyone on site who would take the time to go help a resident. The facility is fine. The positive part of it was that my sister got new appliances when she moved in. She got a brand-new refrigerator but no ice-marker. With her arthritic hands, it's hard for her to pop the ice trays. She got a new microwave. It's fresh paint and things like that. But part of the air conditioner is not working, the part that goes from the living area into the bedroom, and they've ordered parts to repair it. They say they're waiting on parts, but I don't know. Another thing is, that one of the windows to the outside was broken, and we saw that when we went and viewed the place before we signed the lease agreement. They guaranteed us that that would be fixed before she moved in, and that was not fixed. They're not friendly. I happened to be there today with my sister and had lunch with her. We were trying to interact with the server and pretty much just got, 'Are you regular diet?' So I am disappointed in the place and the way that it's turning out. If you don't want what they have on the menu, you're out of luck because they very rarely will serve you a hamburger or a sandwich, which they have posted on the door. For activities, they have movie night and bingo, and they're getting ready to have a garage sale on Saturday. Overall, they could improve their food service. Give the residents a variety and maybe a menu. I was led to believe that they would have a menu to choose from, maybe 2 to 3 times as opposed to, 'Here's what we're serving today, you can eat or not' or something like that. The biggest issue for me is the food because my sister is an older resident and the thought of her missing meals and being diabetic is unacceptable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into Emerson South Collins. They offer three meals a day. The food is wonderful. They have so many activities. They have happy hour with karaoke, which was a blast. They have bingo. They stream. They have a movie theater. They stream church to there. And outside of that, they have a group that gets together for the study. They have a walking group. Two times a week, you sign up for a particular trip to Walmart or Kroger. I just couldn't ask for anything better with the most important thing being community and everything and everyone, staff and the residents I met so far are just amazing. They're wonderful. I have a studio, but it's plenty of room for me and my needs. They also have a larger room, like a one-bedroom unit. But I don't need all that. I just needed a studio, something that would give me a place to sleep and I can still read, whatever, just like you would in any home. It's delightful. The staff is wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister-in-law moved into Emerson South Collins. It offers pretty much everything she needs. She doesn't have to cook unless she wants to. She gets at least two meals a day, and some days she gets three. And then she has a small kitchen that she can put TV dinners in and things like that. They have all kinds of activities if they choose to go and do it. They have crafts, exercise, and movies and they have different functions. They had an Easter party yesterday and that's if they go to it. Considering all the extras, the meals and everything, it's very affordable. They have transportation to grocery stores and Walmart, or they go out to eat once a week or something like that. So there are many different things. It was affordable and it was easy to get to, and I can get to or from where I live.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved here. We chose it because when we did a tour of the facility, the staff was amazing, the accommodations were clean, and the food was amazing. They had activities. We had a great experience with the tour. She liked the layout of the rooms, so we didn't feel like we needed to look anywhere else. They have a movie theater. They have scheduled activities every week. They have a bus that takes them shopping, to the bank, and to doctor's appointments. They have a cleaning service every week. They have a laundry option that they can pay for that's like $10. They have a haircut salon there where they can get their haircut done. They have meals twice a day which they could take back to their room or eat there in the dining room.

I visited this facility

I toured here. The building itself was gorgeous. The inside was homey. The reception desk was friendly. The whole layout of when you walk in there, you feel comfortable, and it was just a friendly environment. I didn't get a chance to meet my tour guide but she left us in very good hands. It was spacious. They gave us lunch, and the food was really amazing. Their food was good. I'm one of those who likes cooking, and if I say it's good, it's good. I enjoyed that, and I enjoyed the ladies that took us on a tour to see one of the apartments. We talked a little bit about the company and about the building. They also have the shuttle. They have a lot of different events that cause the residents to get to know each other, and making sure that bringing families or friends up to visit would never be a problem. It was really a homey feeling.

I visited this facility

It was good, clean, and orderly. The staff during the tour was great, friendly, and informative and seemed to know everybody. I just looked at the menu, and it seemed a good variety and interesting food. We saw the movie room where they watch movies, the game area where they have board games and dominoes, the library, and the outdoor area where there were walking paths. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and nice. They were doing some renovations.
