My father has lived in Avalon Memory Care for two months now. Theyve been great, very helpful, I dont feel I have to worry about him, and theyre doing a great job. Theyre very attentive, always take care of issues, very friendly, and dont ignore me. I have no issues with them. The rooms are clean, sufficient, and he has plenty of room for his bed, chair, and personal items. I like the idea of wooden floors versus carpets, its easier to clean, and the whole place is very nice. The dining area is clean, attractive, and well-kept up. I liked the idea of everybody being together in one big area, along with the kitchen staff. He can look outside his bedroom area and see trees and plants. They have a patio area where he can go out and sit out there.

About Avalon Memory Care - Arlington 7200 in Arlington, Texas
Avalon Memory Care has gone to great lengths to provide a mode of care that is uniquely tailored to the special needs of the Alzheimer's victim. We are concerned with every phase of the resident's needs (physical, emotional, and social). We work to restore and support the resident's self esteem, dignity, and the resumption of as many of the daily personal tasks of which the resident is capable. Surrounded by family treasures and memories, the residents live in the comfort and privacy of their own rooms in a spacious, ranch style, one level home with built-in security features such as a secured patio and roomy backyard. They bond with and enjoy the companionship of other residents and inevitably form a 'family feeling' that eliminates the loneliness or isolation often experienced in institutional settings. They enjoy luxury accommodations including exquisite furnishings in these fine homes. We provide professional and sensitive care for the physical, emotional, mental, and social needs of our residents. Our care focuses on the safety and well-being of our residents, 24-hours a day. We have many excellent referrals and are licensed by the State of Texas as a small/large Class B Assisted Living with Alzheimer and Related Disorders certification. To learn more about this provider's license and review other available state reports, please visit: Texas Long-Term Care Provider Search

I toured Avalon Memory Care - Arlington 7200 for my mom. It is very beautiful. Everybody was very friendly. I love the atmosphere and the view. I liked the people and also there were several workers for the number of people that were there. I saw a lot more staff there, workers just being around and coaching the elderly and all that kind of stuff versus the other place I saw, where I did not see very many workers. But that doesn't mean they weren't in rooms or something. But this place, they were all playing a game at a table, and they had everyone there and they had all the workers around them. So, it's like one worker per every three people or whatever to help this game at the table. It was perfect and just wonderful. They're all happy. You could tell everyone loved their job.

We looked at Avalon and got a nice tour there, but we did not like what we saw of the residents. The staff seemed wonderful. They were nice, but the residents were just sitting in chairs agitating, and I did not think they were being engaged very well. There are different levels of dementia, but they were obviously much further into dementia than my aunt, so we decided that was not a good place for her because she is much higher functioning than anyone we saw at that facility. Also, it said that it is in Arlington, but it is about three inches from Kennedale, which is a long way from where we wanted her to be. The rooms were nice, the bathrooms were exceptional, and cleanliness and upkeep looked good, too.

Once I saw Avalon, I realized this is not the type of care my mother needs. All the residents have memory issues, the doors are locked, and they don’t really have any activities. The residents are watched very closely. I went there twice and both times I didn’t see any staff interacting with the residents as the facility caters more to their safety. The kitchen is very open -- the kind where you can see everything, which is nice. The person who explained to us about living there was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly.

She is in the Valon Memory Care for three years now, and we were very impressed with it. She seems to be happy where she is, and I have no problem with her care. They have doctors and a registered nurse on call. It’s a pretty bare facility, but they have cottages. She was raised $300 a month because she was incontinent, but I’m satisfied. They have a nurse that comes in and gives them prescriptions in the morning.

My mother is a resident of Avalon, and my first experience was that they were very kind, and they actually cared about the residents. It was a very comfortable atmosphere. After she was there for a while, I'm pretty much decided that the communities are all the same. They put on a good front, and then once they're there, it's just a holding place for most residents, and Alzheimer's patients are stressful to deal with. It's not just them -- it's just about every place that I had her in. There were three buildings there. The first building is a nice showcase, and then the two other buildings are not quite as nice. The rooms are very basic. It's by far the most expensive place that she has been to. One thing nice was that they allowed her to be in a private room as opposed to a semi-private room. They didn't have a remodeled or updated bathroom in any of the semi-private rooms, so they let her stay in a private room that was updated for the semi-private room price.
